In order to better constrain the Mesozoic apparent polar wander path for the North China Block,Late Triassic and Early Jurassic sandstones in the Ordos Basin and Early Jurassic sandstones in the Datong area were collected at 37 *** demagnetization isolated a high-temperature magnetization component with unblocking temperatures of 500-580℃from five sites of the Early Jurassic Yongdingzhuang Formation in the Datong *** directions from the five sites yielded a positive fold test at the 95 per cent confidence level. These directions combined together with previously reported ones give a new Early Jurassic mean direction(D=358.0°,I=50.6°,α=4.4°) and corresponding palaeomagnetic pole (81.5°N,302.5°E,A=5.5°).The palaeomagnetic pole is regarded as representative of the North China Block because this pole is derived from two localities in the undisputed part of the North China *** of the Early Jurassic pole for the North China Block with coeval ones for the South China Block identify significant differences between the poles from the two *** Early Jurassic times,the North China Block was at the peak of rotational motion associated with the collision of the North and South China *** North China Block underwent a counterclockwise rotation of 12°-32°with respect to the South China Block since the Early Jurassic,at least 17 per cent of the total rotational motion remaining at that time.

Effect of Scutellariae Radix extract on experimental dextran-sulfate sodium-induced colitis in rats

AIM： To investigate the effect of Scutellariae Radix extract （SRE） on ulcerative colitis （UC） in rats induced by dextran-sulfate sodium （DSS）. METHODS： Colitis was induced in male Sprague-Dawley （SD） rats （170-180 g） by 4% dextran sulfate sodium （DSS, wt/v, MW 54000） in drinking water for 8 d. The treated rats received 4% DSS and SRE orally （100 mg/kg per day）. Control rats received either tap water or SRE only. Macroscopic assessment which included body weight changes, fecal occult blood and stool consistency were determined daily. At the appointed time, the rats were sacrificed and the entire colons were removed. The colon length and the myeloperoxidase （MPO） activity were measured. The severity of colitis was graded by morphological and histological assessments. The ion transport activity of the colonic mucosa was assessed by electrophysiological technique. RESULTS： Rats treated with oral administration of 4% DSS regularly developed clinical and macroscopic signs of colitis. Treatment with SRE relieved the symptoms, including the reduction in body weight, shortening 2nd ulceration of the colon. Administration of SRE also significantly reduced the histological damage induced by DSS. Moreover, the Isc responses of the colonic mucosa to forskolin, were suppressed after the induction of colitis. The stimulated ion transport activity of DSS-rats treated with SRE displayed significant improvement in the secretory responsiveness. CONCLUSION： SRE was effective in treating acute DSS- induced ulcerative colitis, as gauged by reduced clinical disease, improved macroscopic and histological damage scores, and enhanced recovery of normal colonic secretory function.

Macronutrients Omission in the Growth of Cotton, BRS Topázio Cultivar Grown in Nutritious Solution

With the objective to determine the probable causes of the appearance of abnormalities in BRS Topázio cotton plants, a greenhouse experiment was carried out per subtraction, in which nutrients were omitted: N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S, totalizing 21 experimental units. The omission of N, P, K and Ca in the nutrient solution reduced the biometric characteristics of the cotton crop, with K and Ca being the most affected by these characteristics. The visual symptoms in cotton plants are seen with more severity in the lack of K, P, K Ca and Mg elements. The omission of S did not affect the development of the plants.
