Increased syndecan-1 and glypican-3 predict poor perinatal outcome and treatment resistance in intrahepatic cholestasis

Background:Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy(ICP)increases the risk of adverse pregnancy *** study aimed to explore the association between serum syndecan-1 and glypican-3 levels and the adverse perinatal outcome as well as the responses to the treatment of ursodeoxycholic acid(UDCA).methods:This prospective,case control study included 88 pregnant women(44 women with ICP and 44 healthy controls).The primary end points were the perinatal outcome and the response to UDCA therapy.A logistic regression model was used to identify the independent risk factors of adverse pregnancy outcomes and reduced response to UDCA ***:Women with ICP had significantly higher serum syndecan-1(1.27±0.36 ng/m L vs.0.98±0.50 ng/m L;P=0.003),glypican-3(1.78±0.13 ng/m L vs.1.69±0.16 ng/m L;P=0.004),AST(128.59±1.44 vs.13.29±1.32 U/L;Pvs.8.00±3.67 U/L;Pvels compared with the *** increased levels of syndecan-1(OR=4.715,95%CI:1.554–14.310;P=0.006),glypican-3(OR=8.465,95%CI:3.372–21.248;P=0.007),ALT(OR=1.382,95%CI:1.131–1.690;P=0.002),and postprandial bile acid(PBA)(OR=3.392,95%CI:1.003–12.869;P=0.026)were correlated to *** adverse neonatal outcome was related to increased glypican-3(OR=4.275,95%CI:2.726–5.635;P=0.039),and PBA(OR=3.026,95%CI:1.069–13.569;P=0.037).Increases of syndecan-1(OR=7.464,95%CI:2.130–26.153,P=0.017)and glypican-3(OR=6.194,95%CI:2.951–13.002;P=0.025)were the risk factors of decreased response to UDCA ***:Syndecan-1 and glypican-3 might be powerful determinants in predicting adverse perinatal outcome in patients with ICP,and they can be used to predict the response to the UDCA treatment.

Present study deals with the isolation of endophytic fungi from leaf and root explants of Ananus comosus var queen from three growing conditions ***,cultivated as monoculture and cultivated as mixed cropping system with rubber plants.A total of twenty-nine endophytic fungal strains along with two nonsporulating forms were isolated from the host plant from three experimental *** maximum numbers of fungal strains were found belong to family Aspergillaceae and order *** highest rates of colonization and isolation(pve been reported in wild foliar explants(95.53±0.53)and monoculture(1.02±0.01),*** highest relative frequency was observed among isolated fungal strains in the case of Lasiodiplodia theobromae isolated from the leaf and root of wild(26.22%)and monoculture(29.62%)*** *** and Aspergillus flavus,isolated from the leaf and roots of wild(21.66%)and monoculture(14.66%)explants showed the highest colonization *** findings showed that the distribution of fungal endophytes and their relative frequency in host plants vary in three different growing conditions.

The spraying of plant protection product(PPP)in orchards is a very hazardous working procedure,owing to the spray drift caused by the uneven operation of conventional axial boom *** research describes an intelligent automated system for precise(PPP)distribution in *** is based on an intelligent decision-making model using ultrasonic measurements of leaf area density under laboratory conditions,which serve to trigger electromagnetic valves(Emv)on the axial boom sprayer.A fuzzy logic algorithm was an integrated part of the intelligent system for controlling the PPP by generating the pulse width modulation signal and applying it through the Emv of the prototype boom *** results showed that by using an intelligent decision-making model,the same efficiency as with conventional methods could be achieved,but with reduced usage of plant protection ***,the intelligent automated system used 4.8 times less spray mixture than the conventional one.

Background:Crescentic glomerulonephritis(CsGN)is characterized by crescents in 50%or more of glomeruli and clinically by a sudden and progressive decline in renal ***:We evaluated the etiology,clinical features,prognostic factors and long-term outcome of *** January 2000 and December 2010,45 children(26 girls,19 boys)with biopsy-proven CsGN(>50%crescents)were investigated ***:The mean age of the patients was 130.86±33.77 *** mean duration of symptoms prior to diagnosis was 26±12 days(4-40 days).most of the children had hypertension(62.2%),macroscopic hematuria(73.3%),oligoanuria(44.4%),edema(51.1%)and purpuric rash(40%)at *** final clinical status of the patients was complete remission(n=21),partial remission(n=5)or chronic kidney disease(n=19).Adverse outcomes were significantly associated with a long duration between the onset of symptoms and treatment(P=0.038),the presence of oligoanuria(P=0.006),a severe decreased glomerular filtration rate(GFRmL/min/1.73m^(2))and the need for dialysis(P=0.003)on admission,the ratio of crescents(>75%)(P=0.03),and the ratio of fi brous crescents(P=0.015).Conclusion:The outcome of CsGN in children continues to be poor,and it should be treated as a renal emergency.

BACkGROUND & OBJECTIvES:In recent years, emerging transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAvI) has become an alternative for surgery。 However, with advanced age, several co-morbid factors together with contrast agent usage can cause deterioration in renal function and increase in the risk of acute kidney injury (akI) with poor prognosis in patients with akI。 Therefore, many patients cannot benefit from this treatment。 In this study, we aim to examine the effects of TAvI on renal functions。 mETHODS AND RESULTS: Seventy patients, mean age of 77.6 years, underwent TAvI between July 2011 and December 2012。 Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated by using the Cockcroft and Gault Formula。 Patients were monitored for 48 h for urine output。 Stage 1 akI, according to the vARC-2 akIN system, developed in only five (7.1%) of the patients after the procedure。 There was a statistically significant increase between the mean 1(st) month eGFRs before (68。2 vs。 61.0, P vs。 63.6, P vI in the cohort。 After TAvI (48。5 mL/min, P month (52.1 mL/min, P kidney disease before the procedure showed a statistically significant increase in renal functions。 The hospital mortality rate was higher in the group which developed akI (P month eGFR showed a more statistically significant increase than pre-TAvI eGFR (62.8 and 69.8, P vely) in akI developing patients and this difference - though statistically not significant - continued into the sixth month。 CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we showed that the treatment of aortic stenosis through TAvI allows improvement of renal functions, and that akI rates will be lower with careful patient selection, proper pre-procedural hydration, and careful use of contrast agent。

An AZ31 HP magnesium alloy was laser beam welded in autogenous mode with AZ61 filler using Nd-YAG laser *** examination revealed that the laser beam weld metals obtained with or without filler material had an average grain size of about 12 μ*** microhardness and the tensile strength of the weldments were similar to those of the parent ***,the stress corrosion cracking （SCC） behaviour of both the weldments assessed by slow strain rate tensile （SSRT） tests in ASTm D1384 solution was found to be slightly inferior to that of the parent *** was observed that the stress corrosion cracks originated in the weld metal and propagated through the weld metal-HAZ regions in the autogenous *** the other hand,in the weldment obtained with AZ61 filler material,the crack initiation and propagation was in the HAZ *** localized damage of the magnesium hydroxide/oxide film formed on the surface of the specimens due to the exposure to the corrosive environment during the SSRT tests was found to be responsible for the SCC.

Nanocrystalline silver particles were produced by hydrogen reduction of silver nitrate aerosol droplets formed by high frequency ultrasonic *** dependences of the particle size,morphology and crystallite size on the precursor concentration and the reaction temperature were *** spray pyrolysis process was combined with hydrogen reduction to research the effects on the silver particle *** silver particles including slight oxide structure were prepared at temperature as low as 200 ℃ from silver nitrate under hydrogen atmosphere.X-ray diffraction（XRD） studies showed that pure silver particles were obtained above 200 ℃ reaction *** crystallite sizes of the samples ranged from 29 to 47 *** results indicate that the crystallite sizes hardly ever depended on the reaction *** slightly enlarged by increasing precursor *** observations showed that particles were obtained in spherical morphology with particle sizes between 210 and 525 *** temperature and precursor concentration strongly influenced the particle size.
