Response of primiparous and multiparous buffaloes to yeast culture supplementation during early and mid-lactation

Strains of live Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast have exhibited probiotic effects in ruminants. This study investigated the effects of the dietary yeast supplement, S. cerevisiae(Yea-Sacc^(1026)), on primiparous(PP)and multiparous(MP) Egyptian buffaloes in early to mid-lactation. Lactating buffaloes were fed either a basal total mixed ration(TMR, control; 4 PP and 8 MP) or the basal TMR plus 10 g Yea-Sacc^(1026) per buffalo cow per day(yeast; 4 PP and 8 MP). The feeds were given from 15 days prepartum to 180 days postpartum. Feed intake, body weight, and milk yields(MY) were recorded, and milk and blood samples were collected for analyses. Feces were collected from days 45 to 47 during early lactation and from days 90 to92 during mid-lactation to determine apparent digestibility of dry matter(DM), organic matter(OM),crude protein(CP) and crude fiber(CF). Energy corrected milk yield(ECM), feed conversion, and energy and nitrogen conversion efficiency were calculated. Yeast treated MP buffaloes consumed more DM(P < 0.041) and CP than the untreated control group. Apparent digestibility of DM and OM were significantly greater at mid-lactation for treated versus control group(P = 0.001). Crude fiber digestibility was greater in MP than in PP buffaloes(P = 0.049), and yeast supplemented MP cows had a greater CF digestibility than control MP buffaloes at mid-lactation(P = 0.010). Total blood lipids decreased after yeast supplementation(P= 0.029). Milk yields, ECM, fat and protein yields increased for yeast treated MP buffaloes(P < 0.039). The study concluded that the response to yeast supplementation in buffalo cows is parity dependent. Multiparous buffaloes respond to yeast supplementation with an increased DM intake and CF digestibility without significant weight gains, allowing a greater ECM yield with less fat mobilization. In this editorial,we comment on the hard and soft tissue applications of different ceramic-based scaffolds prepared by different mechanisms such as 3D printing,sol-gel,and *** new concept of regenerative medicine relies on biomaterials that can trigger in situ tissue regeneration and stem cell recruitment at the defect site.A large percentage of these biomaterials is ceramic-based as they provide the essential requirements of biomaterial principles such as tailored multisize porosity,antibacterial properties,and angiogenic *** these previously mentioned properties put bioceramics on top of the hierarchy of biomaterials utilized to stimulate tissue regeneration in soft and hard tissue *** clinical applications registered the use of these materials in triggering soft tissue regeneration in healthy and diabetic patients such as bioactive glass *** results were promising and opened new frontiers for utilizing these materials on a larger *** same results were mentioned when using different forms and formulas of bioceramics in hard defect *** bioceramics were used in combination with other polymers and biological scaffolds to improve their regenerative and mechanical *** this progress will enable a larger scale of patients to receive such services with ease and decrease the financial burden on the government.

Geochemical constraints and uranium potential of the younger granitic rocks in El Maghrbia area, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt

The present work deals with the mineralogy,geochemical behavior and uranium potentiality of the monzogranites of El Maghrbia area,which comprise *** Maghrbia and *** Eredyia and situated in the central Eastern Desert of ***-Erediya monzogranites represents a promising area for uranium *** granites have shear zone filled with red and black silica veins containing many radioactive anomalies with visible yellow secondary uranium *** shear zone is highly affected by different degrees of alterations such as silicification,kaolinitization,sassuritization and *** of El-Erediya area possess higher values of their radioactivity than in El Maghrbia monzogranites in which eU and eTh,reaches up to 792.3 and 66.81 ppm,whilst average content of eU and eTh in El Maghrabia granites are 3.86 and 8.55 ppm,respectively owing to the presence of radioactive minerals such as uraninite,uranothorite,uranophane,kasolite,betafite,zircon and *** geochemical analyses indicated that,the studied monzogranites are distinctly anomalous in U,where the average U is more than 620-fold the Upper Continental Crust(UCC),marked enrichment(> tenfold) of the elements Cd,Mo,Pb,Bi,Nb and *** Th/U ratio decreases from 2.8,as a chondritic value,to 0.0023 for the studied granites,proposing extreme fractionation towards an extensive secondary migration-in of *** Zr and Hf are depleted in the studied granites relative to the UCC,whereas Nb and Ta are strongly *** content of Y is about sixfold enriched which reflects relative enhancement of the HREE during the alteration *** correlates with Fe_(2)O_(3),suggesting a possible association between uranium and ***,the occurrences of uranium are epigenetic by remobilization from the host rock to the sheared zones,probably through metasomatic process where U-Fe-Mg replaced the feldspars in an oxidized *** high levels of radioactivity in the rocks

Optimum chemotherapy in the management of metastatic pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most devastating solid tumors, and it remains one of the most difficult to treat. The treatment of metastatic pancreatic cancer (MPC) is systemic, based on chemotherapy or best supportive care, depending on the performance status of the patient. Two chemotherapeutical regimens have produced substantial benefits in the treatment of MPC: gemcitabine in 1997; and FOLFIRIONOX in 2011. FOLFIRINOX improved the natural history of MPC, with overall survival (OS) of 11.1 mo. Nab-paclitaxel associated with gemcitabine is a newly approved regimen for MPC, with a median OS of 8.6 mo. Despite multiple trials, this targeted therapy was not efficient in the treatment of MPC. Many new molecules targeting the proliferation and survival pathways, immune response, oncofetal signaling and the epigenetic changes are currently undergoing phase I and II trials for the treatment of MPC, with many promising results.

The catalytic activity of Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) in a one-pot three component condensation reaction consisting of an aromatic aldehyde, urea or thiourea, and a β-dicarbonyl under solvent-free conditions was investigated. This reaction affords the corresponding dihydropyrimidinones (thiones) in high to excellent yields. Compared with the classical Biginelli reactions this method consistently gives a high yield, easy magnetic separation, a short reaction time, and catalyst reusability.

A one step synthesis protocol for the conversion of heteroylthiosemicarbazides and 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinone to naphtho[2,3-d]thiazoles, naphtho[2,3-e][1,3,4]thiadiazines as well as bis(naphtho[2,3-d]thiazolyl)copper(II) derivatives is described. The products were conclusively confirmed by single crystal X-ray analyses. A mechanism for the formation of the products is presented.
