Chickpea yield is decreasing day by day due to drought stress,which could be an immense risk for future food security in developing *** practices could be the most excellent approach to diminish loss due to this abiotic *** current research work was designed to explore the tolerance reaction of chickpea genotypes against management practices,through morphological and biochemical parameters and evaluate yield performance across drought prone location of *** genotypes BD-6048,BD-6045,BD-6090,BD-6092 and eight management practices,e.g.,severe water stress(SWS),i.e.,without irrigation,10 cm thick mulching with rice straw(MRS),10 cm thick mulching with water hyacinth(MWH),organic amendment through compost(OAC)@3 t ha−1,organic amendment through cow dung@5 t ha−1(OACD),organic amendment through poultry manure@2 t ha−1(OAPM),inorganic amendment through proline application(IAPA)as foliar spray and 16 h hydro-priming(HP).The study revealed that the genotypes BD-6048 showed excellent performance because of the highest chlorophyll,carotenoids,phosphorus,potassium,proline and protein *** highest pod number plant−1 also increased seed yield in *** management practices,IAPA increased relative water content,carotenoids,leaf phosphorus and potassium compared to other management practices and severe water ***,BD-6084 was selected as best genotype because of a significant increase in chlorophyll a and b,carotenoids,and relative water content with *** top performing genotypes can be used for releasing variety and cultivated for sustainable production in drought prone area of Bangladesh.

Cumulative Air Quality Impacts from Twenty-Two Major Power Plants

Cumulative assessment is a tool for the project developer to try and take into consideration not only their contribution to cumulative impacts but also other projects and external factors that may place their developments at *** study assessed the cumulative impacts of air emissions from 22 major power plants in southeast Bangladesh planned to generate 21,550 MW of *** also includes anticipated growth in small to medium size industries,brickfields,highway traffic,inland water transport,transhippers,jetty,and vessel transports used for transporting fuel resources for these power plants.A 50 km by 50 km airshed is considered for air quality *** analysis indicates that predicted MGLCs(Maximum Ground Level Concentrations)of nO2 and CO are complying with both Bangladesh nAAQS(national Ambient Air Quality Standards)and WBG(World Bank Group)*** daily average MGLC of PM_(2.5)(62.45µg/m^(3))from all sources complies with nAAQS,however,exceeds the WBG *** PM_(2.5) concentration(15.45µg/m^(3))exceeds nAAQS and WBG *** PM10 concentration complies with the nAAQS for both 24-hour and annual averaging *** average concentration(23.12µg/m^(3))exceeds WBG *** average SO2 concentration(102.49µg/m^(3))complies with the nAAQS however,it exceeds the WBG guideline *** concentrations of PM_(2.5) and SO2 are due to the contribution of transboundary emissions and secondary pollutants in the *** dispersion modeling outcome can be used by the policymakers for the pollution reduction strategy.

A modified gas flow model in the near wellbore region below dew point pressure

When pressure in gas reservoirs fall below the dew point,condensate banking occurs around the wellbore which alters the fluid flow *** state of the knowledge on this flow behavior is yet not fully-developed;which leads to severe problems in *** this study,the Al-Hussainy,Ramey,and Crawford Solution Technique has been modified to accurately resemble the real gas flow behavior for this ***,a primary investigation was conducted to observe the severity of the problem in three condensate banked *** this study involved Constant Composition Expansion tests for determining the dew point,Prode Properties software for modeling the reservoir fluid properties,Flowing Material Balance(or Dynamic P/Z Material Balance)for identifying the pressure distribution of the selected *** real field data along with the determined(analytical,computational,and experimental)data were incorporated to check the validity of the *** modification proposes a Dimensionless Correction Factor(CD)for any condensate banked reservoir and identifies parameters such as the Perforation Factor(Pf)and Heterogeneity Factor(n).It is found that the Modified Al-Hussainy,Ramey,and Crawford Solution Technique successfully models the actual flow characteristics of the stated condition.

Yield Response of Direct Seeded AusRice Varieties under Rainfed Condition

Rainfed Aus rice is a popular conventional rice cultivation technique that through appropriate variety selection can accelerate the benefits of the farmer. On this context, an experiment was carried out at the research field of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur1706 from April to August in 2014 to evaluate yield performance of some Aus rice varieties under rainfed condition. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications. The experiment consisted of two sets of treatments: water regime as irrigated (irrigation when necessary) and rainfed (dependent on rainfall) in the main plot and 15 varieties into sub-plots. It was revealed that yield and yield contributing characters were significantly influenced by water regime, variety and their interaction. The traits like number of effective tillers and non-effective tillers·hill-1, number of filled grains and unfilled grains panicle-1, panicle length, test weight, grain yield and harvest index were higher in irrigated crops compared to rainfed. Considering the performance of yield, the highest grain yield recorded in BRRI dhan27 (irrigated-2.47 t·ha-1 and rainfed-2.26 t·ha-1) followed by BRRI dhan55 (irrigated-1.95 t·ha-1 and rainfed-1.88 t·ha-1), BRRI dhan48 and BRRI dhan43 under both irrigated and rainfed treatment. BRRI dhan27 ranked the top under both irrigated and rainfed conditions, however the relative yield was maximum in BRRI dhan55 (reduction was only 3.59%) followed by nerica10. Hence, considering the yield stability and absolute yield performance, BRRI dhan27 may be considered favorably cultivable for Aus season in Bangladesh followed by BRRI dhan55, BRRI dhan48 and BRRI dhan43.

Growth, Yield and nitrogen Use Efficiency of new Rice Variety under Variable nitrogen Rates

Globally, the current important concern is to minimize nitrogen use in crop culture under climate change condition. The experiment was conducted at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, Bangladesh during the rainy season of 2014 to assess growth, yield and nitrogen use efficiency of a new rice variety. The new rice variety (BUdhan 1) was treated with six levels of nitrogenous fertilizer in a randomized complete block design replicated three times. The nitrogen levels 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 kg n ha-1 constituted the treatment variables. Results revealed that growth of the new rice variety favored at higher levels of applied nitrogen although it flattened at 80 and 100 kg n -1. Preanthesis assimilates reserves contributed to sustaining the yield of the variety which indicated that current photosynthesis was insufficient to support the present yield level. The assimilate remobilization varied from 109.21 to 232.93 g·m-2 between the nitrogen levels where the maximum amount of remobilization was observed at 60 kg n -1. The highest grain yield (5.36 t·-1) was found when the variety was fertilized with 60 kg n -1. Application of 60 kg n -1 also showed the highest nitrogen use efficiency (344.50 kg grain/kg n applied) of the variety. We concluded that application of the intermediate level of nitrogen was economical and environment-friendly for the cultivation of new rice variety.

The reaction of [CpMo(CO)3]2 with dicyclopentamethylenethiuram disulfide in refluxing xylene resulted a novel mono nuclear complex, cis-[(CpMo(CO)2{S2C-n(CH2)5}] as red crystals in moderate yield. The compound was formed by the oxidative cleavage of metal-metal bond in [CpMo(CO)3]2 together with a reductive sulfur-sulfur bond scission in the ligand.

Oxidase Enzyme Activities and Their Correlations with Antioxidative Stress Biomarkers in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome in Bangladesh

Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a range of conditions associated with decreased blood flow in the coronary arteries resulting from sudden rupture of atherosclerotic plaques. Several studies have found that oxidative stress is involved in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. The role of oxidase enzymes and antioxidative stress biomarkers in these processes needs further attention. In this study, a total of 120 participants were enrolled which comprised 60 ACS patients and 60 control subjects. The major oxidase enzyme, xanthine oxidase, which plays a pivotal role in the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), showed significantly higher activities in both serum (158.03 ± 43.30 mU/mL) and red blood cells (RBC) lysate (309.07 ± 75.73 mU/mL) of the ACS patients compared to controls, 48.51 ± 13.41 mU/mL and 184.10 ± 70.14 mU/mL, respectively. The nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (nADPH) oxidase and myeloperoxidase, both of which are major contributors to ROS production, showed significantly higher activities in patients (14.13 ± 3.38 U/L and 10.9 ± 3.3 U/mg) than in controls, 6.90 ± 1.94 U/L and 5.9 ± 1.5 U/mg, respectively. Ceruloplasmin, an emerging biomarker of inflammation, showed significantly higher activity in patients (83.8 ± 26.2 U/L) compared to controls, 70.0 ± 18.9 U/L. The antioxidant enzyme glutathione reductase showed significantly lower activity in patients than controls, 60.7 ± 47.8 U/mL/min and 85.2 ± 49.5 U/mL/min, respectively. Evaluation of cardioprotective biomarkers nitric oxide and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) showed significantly lower values in patients. Correlation analyses between these parameters further corroborated increased oxidative stress in patients. These findings suggest that excessive productions of ROS by the oxidase enzymes cause an imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants in favor of oxidants leading to increased oxidative stress in patients with ACS.

Synthesis and Characterization of 2,2’-Bipyridyl-5,5’-Dialdehyde Schiff Bases from O,S,n and F-Containing Amines

Design and synthesis of organic chelating agents containing nitrogen and sulfur as donor atoms and their metal complexes is an interesting field of research for their different types of activities. The bi-dentate n,n chelating agent such as 2,2-Bipyridal has been playing a vital role in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. 2,2-Bipyridal has been used to prepare many mixed-ligand complexes. Different ligand complexes prepared from 2,2-Bipyridyl are used in different areas such as molecular catalysis, solar energy conversion, calorimetric analysis, herbicides, molecular recognition, self-assembly, antineoplastic agents, and nucleic acid probes. Another important property of these types of compounds is the triplet state photosensitizing character of bipyridyl nucleus, which is shown in metal complexes. It is also found that compounds containing O,S,n atoms have received considerable attention because of their pharmacological studies like anticancer, antibacterial, and antitumour activities. Therefore, it has been decided to synthesize Schiff bases derived from 2,2’- bipyridyl-5,5’-dicarbaldehyde compounds with O,S,n and F-containing amines and study their antibacterial properties. Several new Schiff bases have been synthesized and fully characterized by spectral data. This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of newly designed Schiff bases.

Eight novel Schiff Bases, from 6,6′-diformyl-2,2′-bipyridyl (1a, 43%)with O, n, S and F containing amines: Thiosemicarbazide (2a, 70%), 4-Ethyl-3-thiosemicabazide (2b, 75%), 4,4-Dimethyl-3-thio-semicarbazide (2c, 75%), S-benzyldithiocarbazide, SBDTC (2d, 80%), (Trifluromethyl) phenylhy-drazine (2e, 80%), 4-Phenyl-3-thiosemcarbazide (2f, 80%), Thiocarbazide (2g, 70%), 2-Amino-thiophenol (2h, 65%), have been synthesized. The conventional method of synthesis of the Schiff bases involves refluxing the reaction mixture containing the diformyls and amines for 1 hour. The solid products that had formed were filtered off using suction filtration. In few reactions, 2 - 3 drops of conc. sulfuric acid were used to obtain high yield. The structures of all eight novel synthesized compounds have fully been characterized by spectroscopic (IR, nMR, MS) methods.

Geomorphological, Geological and Engineering Geological Aspects for Sustainable Urban Planning of Mymensingh City, Bangladesh

Geomorphological, geological and engineering geological information is used as the base data to characterize the subsurface condition and for sustainable urban planning and development of the rapidly expanding Mymensingh city. Extensive field work has been completed to get the realistic scenario, data and samples have been collected from surface and subsurface with auguring and geotechnical boring. The laboratory tests have been performed following standard laboratory procedures. Geomorphologically the area is broadly classified into Older Floodplain or Mymensingh Terrace and Younger Floodplain. These two flood plains are separated by Old Brahmaputra River. Geologically the area is mainly covered by the recent alluvial flood plain deposits which are underlain by the Pleistocene Madhupur clay deposits. The Younger Flood Plain deposit consists of mainly unconsolidated fine to medium sands with some silt and clay whereas the Older Flood Plain deposits are mainly consisting of silty clay and fine to medium sand. Moderately compacted sediments of older flood plain deposit are suitable for urban development. Based on geotechnical characteristics and the n values (blow counts of Spontaneous Penetration Test, SPT) of the subsurface sediments, the study area is classified into four Engineering Geological Units. Unit I indicates loose soil and is suitable for shallow foundation. Unit II is indicating compact soil packing;n value of these two units increase with depth and would be good for heavy foundation. Unit III is suitable for shallow structures. Unit IV, which is composed of mostly clay, silty clay and sand with highly compressive organic clay, is recommended to avoid any heavy construction and could be used as open place, water retaining zone etc. Beside the geological and engineering geological study details hydrology and hydrogeological and a systematic study on seismic hazards are strongly recommended before planning of urban area.
