In a large number of rare-earth and actinide systems,Kondo effect tends to suppress magnetic orders by making the spin singlet between localized and conduction electron *** the presence of orbital degrees of freedom,however,there emerge exotic electronic orders induced by Kondo *** orbital Kondo effect can collectively make diagonal and off-diagonal(superconducting) *** the particle-hole symmetry in conduction bands,these orders are all degenerate,forming a macroscopic SO(5) *** paper discusses recent theoretical development on these electronic orders which are relevant to Pr^(3+) and U^(4+) systems with even number of f electrons per *** the superconducting order,each conduction–electron pair is coupled with local degrees of freedom,forming a composite entity with a staggered spatial *** quasi-particle spectrum is best interpreted as virtual hybridization with resonant states at the Fermi *** order parameter for URu_2Si_2 in the hidden order state is discussed in the context of composite *** discussed are related issues such as homogeneous odd-frequency pairing and SO(5) theory for hightemperature superconductors.

A new retrofitting method is proposed herein for reinforced concrete （RC） structures through attachment of an external structure. The external structure consists of a fiber concrete encased steel frame, connection slab and transverse beams. The external structure is connected to the existing structure through a connection slab and transverse beams. Pseudo- static experiments were carried out on one unretrofitted specimen and three retrofitted frame specimens. The characteristics, including failure mode, crack pattern, hysteresis loops behavior, relationship of strain and displacement of the concrete slab, are demonstrated. The results show that the load carrying capacity is obviously increased, and the extension length of the slab and the number of columns within the external frame are important influence factors on the working performance of the existing structure. In addition, the displacement difference between the existing structure and the outer structure was caused mainly by three factors： shear deformation of the slab, extraction of transverse beams, and drift of the conjunction part between the slab and the existing frame. Furthermore, the total deformation determined by the first two factors accounted for approximately 80% of the damage, therefore these factors should be carefully considered in engineering practice to enhance the effects of this new retrofitting method.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate oxidative stress, antioxidant power, and antioxidant potential of breastmilk of breast-feeding mothers from the early postpartum period to the first 3 months postpartum, and to examine the dynamics and the relationships among them. Method: For 47 pu-erperant women who gave vaginal birth without any pregnancy complications, the oxidative stress levels (d-ROMs levels) and antioxidant power (BAP levels) in the maternal plasma as well as antioxidant potential of breastmilk (BAP levels in breastmilk) were measured 3 times, i.e., in the early puerperium (4 or 5 days after giving birth), one month after giving birth, and 3 months after giving birth. Results: The d-ROMs levels in the maternal plasma were significantly high in the early puerperium (p p p p p p < 0.05). Discussion: Regarding the oxidative stress and the antioxidant defense system of breast-feeding mothers, the d-ROMs level was highest and the BAP level was lowest in the early puerperium. The BAP level then showed a clear tendency to recover in the first 3 months after giving birth. Conclusion: When the maternal antioxidant potential remains at a low level after giving birth, careful consideration should be given to the mother’s health and wellbeing because there is a possibility that it might affect the antioxidant potential of breastmilk.

Velocity structure of double bottom-simulating reflectors(BSRs) in the eastern Nankai accretionary prism offshore Japan has been investigated,by applying newly-developed full waveform inversion to a seismic data set for the first *** double BSRs have negative *** inversion results show there are obviously two velocity reversal boundaries corresponding to the upper and lower BSRs,respectively. At both boundaries the velocity decreases by approximately 250 m/s compared to the overlying sediments. We would prefer interpreting simply that the high velocity zones above the upper BSR and the lower BSR are gas hydrate bearing sediment layers,and that the low velocity zone beneath the lower BSR appears to be indicative of gas-bearing *** the other hand,the low velocity zone beneath the upper BSR is inferred to be water-saturated sediments or free gas-bearing sediments with very little gas hydrate ***,the detailed velocity structure that we have obtained may not rule out the possibility of gas hydrate presence between the upper BSR and the lower BSR within the double BSR area around the eastern Nankai Trough,although alternative explanations for the inversion results should be considered also,as were given for other continental margins such as the western Norwegian margin.

Objective Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs,two major types being ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) are representative chronic inflammatory conditions of the colon and can increase the risk of developing the colorectal cancers. Although there are several gene-engineered and chemically-induced animal models for IBDs,the complete etiology of IBDs is poorly ***,it is important to find novel molecules that are essential for the mucosal repair process from the colonic inflammation. Recently we have developed an adenomatous polyposis coli(Apc)-mutant rat,named a Kyoto Ape Delta(KAD) rat that lacks the extreme C-terminus of the APC *** KAD rats have higher incidences and a larger numbers of colitis- related colorectal tumors compared to control F344 *** this study,we clarified the involvement of the APC in the colonic mucosal repair process from chemically-induced acute colitis using the KAD rats. Male KAD rats(n = 30) and control F344 rats(n = 30) were given 2%dextran sodium sulfate(DSS) in their drinking water for one week and they were sequentially sacrificed at 3 time points,just after the DSS-treatment(week 1),1 week after the cessation(week 2),and 3 weeks after the cessation(week 4).We conducted detailed investigation of their clinical symptoms, histopathology,and expression levels of inflammation-associated *** also identified the APC-expressing cells at the inflamed colon mucosa and characterized the primary cultured cells from the KAD rats with using various in vitro assays. KAD rats displayed a severer clinical manifestation of colitis such as watery diarrhea or fecal blood than F344 rats during and after DSS *** analysis showed that the KAD rats displayed the abnormal deposition of fibrin layers and the reduction of micro-vessel angiogenesis in the damaged mucosa at week *** week 4,the restoration of mucosa was delayed in the distal colon of the KAD rats compared with the F344 *** levels of i

Hepatic resection (HR) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) are popular local therapies for early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Alpha-fetoprotein,Lens culinaris agglutininreactive fraction of alpha-fetoprotein,and des-c-carboxy prothrombin are well-known and useful tumor markers for *** positive number status of these tumor markers has recently been demonstrated as beneficial for predicting outcome for HCC patients treated with local *** the normal ranges reported have differed by institution,the positivity of tumor markers is consistent and can easily be *** and Wakayama's group clearly demonstrated the following:1) Regardless of the degree of tumor stage,a triple-positive tumor marker profile can predict poor outcome in HCC patients undergoing HR;2) For RFA alone,HCC patients with double-and triple-positive status,having less than three lesions and lesions ≤3 cm in diameter show comparably insufficient outcomes;3) For HCC patients with lesions ≤5 cm in Child-Pugh grade A,HR is preferred over RFA;4) Microvascular invasion rates increased even in the double-positive patients,while poorly differentiated HCC was frequently observed only in the triple-positive patients;and 5) RFA with chemoembolization,anatomical liver resection,and postoperative adjuvant chemoembolization or hepatic arterial chemotherapy might improve the outcome for patients with highly malignant HCC with multiple positive tumor ***,the impacts of these therapies still need to be evaluated in prospective comparative studies.
