Characterization and Genetic Diversity of Tea(Camellia sinensis(L.)***)Genotypes for Waterlogging Tolerance

Tea estates in Bangladesh are currently experiencing frequent waterlogging stress due to heavy rainfall or flooding under changing climate *** development of waterlogging-tolerant tea cultivars is,therefore,crucial for sustainable tea production with increased yield in waterlogging-affected *** this study,a total of two hundred tea genotypes were screened for waterlogging tolerance based on yield and quality *** genotypes were raised at the nursery and evaluated with 13 traits at the seedling and mature *** and multivariate analysis of the recorded data of measured traits were performed for clustering the studied genotypes in relation to their yield and quality *** 200 tea genotypes were categorized into six clusters and the measured traits were classified into two ***-5 comprised 46 closely related tea genotypes whereas other clusters-Cluster-1,2,3,4,and 6 contained 39,20,24,29,and 42 genotypes,***-biplot showed that the first two principal components(PC 1 and PC 2)cumulatively described 56.9%of total *** the genetic diversity analysis,the characteristics like green leaf yield(GLY),plucking points(PP),spreading of bush frame(SBF),plucking interval(PI),dormancy period(DR),black tea quality score(QSB),fermentation rate(SF)and number of pubescence(NP)exhibited high to moderate heritability,indicating to consider these traits as selection criteria for tea breeding *** trait GLY showed a strong positive correlation with PP,and SBF and a negative association with PI and *** key quality trait,QSB had a positive correlation with SF and *** on these studied descriptors,a total of 11 tea genotypes were selected,found potential for waterlogging tolerance,and can be considered for varietal improvement programs.

Linseed is a multipurpose crop and the crop needs further improvement to increase production and yield due to its high value and *** study aimed to assess the extent and pattern of genetic variability of forty linseed genotypes based on diverse agro–morphological and yield *** field experiment was conducted following a Randomized Complete Block Design with three *** germplasm showed a wide range of phenotypic expression,genetic variability and heritability for 30 studied traits.A low to high phenotypic coeffi-cient of variation(PCV)and genotypic coefficient of variation(GCV)were *** lowest genotypic(σ2 g)and phenotypic variances(σ2 p)were found in capsule diameter(CD),length of calyx(LC),capsule length(CL),seed length(SL),and seed breadth(SB).High broad-sense heritability(h2 b)with high genetic advance as a percentage of mean(GAm)were observed in days to germination started(DGS),days to 80%emergence(DE),plant height at 28 and 40 DAS,number of flowers(NFPP),filled capsules(NFCPP)and yield per plant(YPP)indicating additive gene action exists for these *** cluster analysis separated 40 genotypes into five clusters,where Clusters I to V assembled with 13,4,4,5 and 14 genotypes,*** yield and yield attributes,Cluster-IV(G3,G4,G6,G10 and G31)genotypes showed promising while,Cluster-II(G2,G16,G35,G36)and Cluster-III(G1,G33,G39 and G40)genotypes were dominant on plant morphological *** on principal component analysis(PCA),few characters such as YPP,NFPP,NFCPP,days to first flowering and capsule formation,early emergence,days to branch initiation and plant heights at different growth stages revealed important and effective traits for consideration in the selection of linseed breeding programs.

Effects of transpiration on unsteady mHD flow of an upper convected maxwell (UCm) fluid passing through a stretching surface in the presence of a first order chemical reaction

The aim of this article is to present the effects of transpiration on the unsteady two-dimensional boundary layer flow of non-Newtonian fluid passing through a stretching sheet in the presence of a first order constructive/destructive chemical reaction. The upper-convected maxwell （UCm） model is used here to characterize the non-Newtonian behavior of the fluid. Using similarity solutions, the governing nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary ones and are then solved numerically by the shooting method. The flow fields and mass transfer are significantly influenced by the governing parameters. The fluid velocity initially decreases as the unsteadiness parameter increases and the concentration decreases significantly due to the increase in the unsteadiness. The effect of increasing values of transpiration （suction） and the maxwell parameter is to suppress the velocity field; however, the concentration is enhanced as transpiration （suction） and the maxwell parameter increase. Also, it is found that the fluid velocity decreases as the magnetic parameter increases; however, the concentration increases in this case.

Susceptibility of microorganism to selected medicinal plants in Bangladesh

Objective:To analyze in-vitro antimicrobial activities of some ethno-pharmacologically significant medicinal plants(methanol extract) against the pathogenic microorganisms(Escherichia coli,Salmonella spp..Bacillus *** *** niger and Candida albicans).methods:The disc diffusion method was applied for antibacterial test and the poisoned food technique was applied for antifungal ***:The methanol extract of Terminalia chebula(bark),Fhyllanthus acidus(fruits).Sarcochlamys pulcherrima(leaves) and Abelmoschus esculcntus(fruits) had significant in vitro antibacterial activity angainst the entire test samples in comparison to standard drug *** of the plant extracts showed low activity against Gram negative bacteria while potential activity against Gram positive *** antifungal activities of methanol extracts of these plants and standard drug griseofulvin were determined against two pathogenicfungi,and Polygonum Iapathifolium(leaves) and Cinnamomum tamala(leaves) showed maximum activity,while Erioglossum rubiginosum(leaves) showed no antifungal ***:Further chemical and pharmacological investigations are required to identify and isolate chemical constituents responsible for these potential bioactivities and thus to determine their full spectrum of efficacy.

Functional relationship between ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and ammonia-oxidizing archaea populations in the secondary treatment system of a full-scale municipal wastewater treatment plant

The abundance of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and archaea and their amo A genes from the aerobic activated sludge tanks,recycled sludge and anaerobic digesters of a full-scale wastewater treatment plant(WWTP)was *** chain reaction and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis were used to generate diversity profiles,which showed that each population had a consistent profile although the abundance of individual members *** the aerobic tanks,the ammonia-oxidizing bacterial(AOB)population was more than 350 times more abundant than the ammonia-oxidizing archaeal(AOA)population,however in the digesters,the AOA population was more than 10 times more *** the activity of the amo A gene expression of the two populations using RT-PCR also showed that the AOA amo A gene was more active in the digesters than in the activated sludge *** batch reactors and dd PCR,amo A activity could be measured and it was found that when the AOB amo A activity was inhibited in the anoxic reactors,the expression of the AOA amo A gene increased *** suggests that these two populations may have a cooperative relationship for the oxidation of ammonia.

Applying organic amendment enriches nutrient status of municipal solid waste compost and its application enhances tuber yield and nutrient concentrations of potato

Elevated price of chemical fertilizers and poor nutrient content in conventional organic sources such as municipal solid waste(mSW)compost necessitate the production of nutrient enriched compost which could serve as a potential alternative organic fertilizer *** studied three types of amended compost that were prepared by mixing 20%mustard oil cake(mOC)and 30%poultry manure(Pm)or cow dung or sugarcane press mud(SPm)with 50%mSW *** viride was inoculated into every type of *** rate of amended or unamended mSW compost application was 10 t ha^(−1).The use of different amendments improved the nutrient level of mSW compost,of which the N increment was remarkable,ranging from 1.14%N(unamended compost)to 2.9%–3.22%N depending on the types of amendment.A field experiment was conducted to evaluate performances of the amended mSW composts on the yield and nutrient content of potato(variety BARI Alu25).All compost treatments except the sole mSW compost treatment produced significantly higher tuber yields than the sole fertilizer *** press mud based mSW compost+fertilizer treatment produced the highest tuber yield of 31.6 t ha^(−1)(65%increase over 100%fertilizers and 57%increase over 100%compost treatment).The tuber N concentration varied from 0.128%to 0.594%,P from 0.018%to 0.035%,k from 0.213%to 0.313%and S from 0.020%to 0.053%,with the highest result recorded with press mud+fertilizer *** use of amended composts had residual effects on soil N,P,k and S ***,the treatment containing 50%fertilizer+50%compost mixture(mSW:mOC:SPm in a ratio of 5:2:3)performed the best followed by Pm amended *** is concluded that integrated use of 10 t ha^(−1) organic amended mSW compost with chemical fertilizers can ensure higher crop yield,nutrient content and sustained soil fertility in nutrient-deficient sub-tropical soil.

Dhaincha(Sesbania bispinosa(Jacq.)Wight)is a crop generally cultivated for improving soil *** to the lack of forest worldwide,alternative source of raw materials for cellulose industries is the main concern *** this investigation,dhaincha samples of 21 accessions were collected from different districts of Bangladesh in order to study the variation of chemical characteristics and its *** lignin,pentosan andα-cellulose content were varied from 21 to 23%,16 to 18%and 38 to 43%,*** highest and lowestα-cellulose contents were found in two location of mymensingh *** was no correlation was found among the ***,pulping of dhaincha from selected seven districts was carried out in kraft process at the conditions of 18%active alkali at 170℃ for 2 *** the pulping properties did not show any mentionable distinction for place *** pulp yield is 42.9%with kappa number *** highest brightness 85%was reached with D_(0)E_(p)D_(1)*** papermaking properties were very close to the conventional raw materials used in ***,dhaincha can be used as a raw material for pulp production in Bangladesh.

SC Currents minimization in Distributed Generation Embedded Distribution Networks with Optimal Application of FCLs

For meeting the increased demand of electrical power,distributed generation(DG)based on renewable energy resources(RERs),has become a potential alternative to large plants based on fossil *** power from environmentally friendly RERs is available at a competitive price due to technological advancements in recent ***,optimal allocation of DG at the distribution network(DN)level may result in power loss reduction,improvement in voltage profile and the network’s overall ***,integration of DG may increase the short circuit(SC)level beyond the capacity of the protection gear,conductors,transformers and other components of a *** high short circuit currents(SCCs)may be reduced by application of a fault current limiter(FCL).However,most of the existing literature proposes optimization of FCLs size by considering only normal configurations of a *** approach is inappropriate as it may fail to produce the desired reduction in SCCs in different N−1 contingency *** this paper,a new strategy is presented that considers both normal as well as various contingency situations for optimal allocation of FCLs in a DN with DG *** strategy is implemented in the IEEE 30-bus system in a mATLAB environment using a genetic algorithm(GA).The simulation results prove that the proposed strategy is effective in determining the optimal FCLs size that restricts the SCCs to a safe level in different operating conditions including N−1 contingencies and thus,improves network safety and *** strategy described in the paper can play an important role in DN planning involving optimal application of DG and FCLs.

mathematical study of fractional-order biological population model using optimal homotopy asymptotic method

In this paper, we study the fractional-order biological population models （FI3Pms） with malthusian~ Verhulst, and porous media laws. The fractional derivative is defined in Caputo sense. The optimal homotopy asymptotic method （OHAm） for partial differ- ential equations （PDEs） is extended and successfully implemented to solve FBPms. Third-order approximate solutions are obtained and compared with the exact solutions. The numerical results unveil that the proposed extension in the OHAm for fractional- order differential problems is very effective and simple in computation. The results reveal the effectiveness with high accuracy and extremely efficient to handle most complicated biological population models.
