This paper describes the effect of the composition of the oxide films on the properties of electrodes Ti/MxTiySnzO2 (M = Ir or Ru) prepared by the polymeric precursor method. XRD studies showed that the anodes are formed by solid solutions. The electrodes containing IrO2 exhibit lower activity for the oxygen evolution reaction. The doping of the electrode surface with SnO2 improves the catalytic properties of the anodes. However, it should be held in appropriate compositions, because the change in the atomic ratio of this element shows a marked effect on the stability of the oxides. Electrode Ti/Ir0.2Ti0.3Sn0.5O2 has lower lifetime, i.e. 6 hours. The 20% decrease in the stoichiometric amount of SnO2 increases the time to a value above 70 hours, as observed for Ti/Ir0.3Ti0.4Sn0.3O2. Electrode Ti/Ru0.3Ti0.4Sn0.3O2 shows lifetime of 11 hours;therefore IrO2 is more stable than RuO2 under the conditions investigated. These results suggest that electrode Ti/Ir0.3Ti0.4Sn0.3O2 is promising for different applications, such as water electrolysis, capacitors and organic electrosynthesis.

The paper introduces a novel paradigm to use ubiquitous computing in urban traffic control as a methodology to include the benefits of considering physical elements implicated in the environment. This promising idea arises from previous results in the literature, where ubiquitous computing achieves significant and promising results in diverse scenarios. Some works in the state-of- the-art clearly state that traditional traffic light signals are not capable of offering higher service levels when they should control the vehicular mobility because of different constraints. In this sense, the paper proposes an adaptation of the main ideas of ubiquitous computing as a metaphor to facilitate the interaction between users and traffic infrastructures in order to improve the users’ experience on the road.

Moringa oleifera Lam(Moringaceae) is a plant with high nutritional and medicinal value. Native to India, it is now widely distributed throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Its different parts are sources of proteins, vitamins and minerals and present different pharmacological and biotechnological potential. Moreover, M. oleifera seeds are widely used in water and effluent treatment, for their coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation properties, their ability of improving water quality, by reducing organic matter and microbial load, with special applicability in intensive animal production systems, such as aquaculture. In addition, due to its high nutritional value and several medicinal properties, this tree may act as a nutritional and medical alternative for socially neglected populations. In this context, this review gathers information on M. oleifera, emphasizing its chemical constituents, nutritional, pharmacological and antimicrobial properties, applications in the treatment of water effluents, and ecological and social aspects.

Diarrhea is a common side effect of *** colitis is a well known complication of antibiotic treatment that can also be observed,albeit rarely,with certain chemotherapeutic *** present four cases of severe colitis in patients undergoing treatment with taxane-based chemotherapy for pancreatic,lung and breast *** of them had recently received *** patient presented with a bowel perforation and three had endoscopic findings of pseudomembranous *** of these three patients had negative stool toxin assays for Clostridium *** the patient presenting with perforation,an emergency left hemicolectomy was performed and the pathological findings in the colon were acute inflammation and ischemic necrosis;the other three patients were treated with oral vancomycin and/or oral or intravenous metronidazole leading to complete resolution of the *** from pseudomembranous colitis,we describe patients presenting with neutropenic enterocolitis as well as ischemic colitis after docetaxel *** cases provide some insight into the spectrum and varied clinical presentations of severe colitis associated with taxane-based chemotherapy.

AIM: To evaluate immunoexpression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in primary gastric carcinomas and respective lymph node metastases. METHODS: Immunohistochemistry to analyze COX-2 expression was performed on tissue microarray slices obtained from 36 specimens of gastrectomy and satellite lymph nodes from patients with gastric carcinoma. RESULTS: Immunostaining was seen in most cases, and COX-2 expression was higher in lymph node me-tastases than in corresponding primary gastric tumors of intestinal, diffuse and mixed carcinomas, with a statistically signif icant difference in the diffuse histotype (P = 0.0108). CONCLUSION: COX-2 immunoexpression occurs frequently in primary gastric carcinomas, but higher expression of this enzyme is observed in lymph node metastases of the diffuse histotype.

Metrological Analysis of Sunflower Prototype

It is well known that the solar tracking systems can increase the efficiency of the photovoltaic (PV) panel by about 30 percent. However, these systems require precise control of their components, mainly of the equipment’s used for the measurement of energy. In this paper, a metrology analysis is conducted, through of the results obtained by Sunflower prototype. The Sunflower is a solar tracking system developed by H. j. Loschi. A tracking system through a microcontrolled timing logic, sending commands to a linear actuator that moves the system. The deductions, based on in research trials, confirms that the Sunflower prototype is more efficient in relation to fixed PV panels, it is possible to observe the difference in the efficiency of 31%, with a variation of ±0.8% (that depends the solar irradiation). The main purpose of this paper is to attest to the quality of the measurements carried out during the performance tests of the Sunflower prototype, evaluating the uncertainty of measurements collected through the measurements equipment, and, introducing methods to minimize uncertainties of measurement equipment in the PV systems.

Evaluation of Prediction Algorithms in the Student Dropout Problem

University dropout is a growing problem which, in recent years, is using computer techniques to assist in the detection process. The paper presents the evaluation of some prediction algorithms to detect a student with a high possibility of scholar desertion. The approach uses real data from past scholar periods to create a dataset with different information of the students (i.e., personal, economic, and academic records). The algorithms selected in the experimental phase were: j48 decision tree, K-near neighbors, and support vector machine. We use two similarity metrics to split the dataset with cases with at least 80% of similarity to evaluate each case. We use the data from 2010 to 2016 with real students’ information to predict if there exists the possibility of a real academic dropout in one test for a period. The results show that the j48 algorithm reaches a better performance in both experiments. Besides, the tree generated for each student is taken as a path of attention, reaching around 88% of effectiveness. Finally, the conclusions argue the contributions of the paper and propose a future line of research.

Quantitative Analysis of Photodynamic Therapy Effects in Rat Mammary Tumor Vascular Density Using Image-Pro plus Software

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment modality that has advanced rapidly in recent years. It causes tissue and vascular damage with the interaction of a photosensitizing agent (PS), light of a proper wavelength, and molecular oxygen. Evaluation of vessel damage usually relies on histopathology evaluation. Results are often qualitative or at best semi-quantitative based on a subjective system. The aim of this study was to evaluate, using CD31 immunohistochemistry and image analysis software, the vascular damage after PDT in a well-established rodent model of chemically induced mammary tumor. Fourteen Sprague-dawley rats received a single dose of 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthraxcene (80 mg/kg by gavage), treatment efficacy was evaluated by comparing the vascular density of tumors after treatment with Photogem®?as a PS, intraperitoneally, followed by interstitial fiber optic lighting, from a diode laser, at 200 mW/cm and light dose of 100 j/cm directed against his tumor (7 animals), with a control group (6 animals, no PDT). The animals were euthanized 30 hours after the lighting and mammary tumors were removed and samples from each lesion were formalin-fixed. Immunostained blood vessels were quantified by Image Pro-Plus version 7.0. The control group had an average of 3368.6 ± 4027.1 pixels per picture and the treated group had an average of 779 ± 1242.6 pixels per area (P 0.01), indicating that PDT caused a significant decrease in vascular density of mammary tumors. The combined immunohistochemistry using CD31, with selection of representative areas by a trained pathology, followed by quantification of staining using Image Pro-Plus version 7.0 system was a practical and robust methodology for vessel damage evaluation, which probably could be used to assess other antiangiogenic treatments.
