Quantitative palaeoclimatic reconstruction with the weighted averaging partial least squares method was applied to the pollen profile from Hulun Lake in northeastern Inner *** data provide a detailed history of variations in precipitation and temperature over the northeastern margin of the East Asian summer monsoon during the Holocene.A warm and dry climate prevailed over the lake region until c.8000 *** the period c.8000-4400 ***,precipitation increased markedly and temperature gradually *** interval between c.4400 and 3350 *** was marked by extremely dry and relatively cold *** recovered from c.3350 to 1000 ***,with temperatures rising c.3350-2050 *** and dropping c.2050-1000 cal. *** the last 500 years,the climate of the lake region displayed a general trend of warming and wetting. While Holocene temperature variations in the mid-high latitude monsoonal margin were controlled by changes in summer solar radiation in the Northern Hemisphere,they could also be related to the strength of the East Asian summer *** lack of precipitation during the early Holocene could be attributed to the weakened summer monsoon resulting from the existence of remnant ice sheets in the Northern *** in the monsoonal precipitation during the middle to late Holocene would have been associated with the ocean-atmosphere interacting processes occurring in the western tropical Pacific.

High-performance organic friction modifiers(OFMs)added to lubricating oils are crucial for reducing energy loss and carbon *** establish a new class of OFMs,we measured the friction and wear properties of N-(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-oxyl-4-piperidinyl)dodecaneamide referred to as *** effect of its head group chemistry,which is characterized by a rigid six-membered ring sandwiched by an amide group and a terminal free oxygen radical,was also investigated with both experiments and quantum mechanical(QM)*** measurement results show that C12Amide-TEMPO outperforms the conventional OFMs of glyceryl monooleate(GMO)and stearic acid,particularly for load-carrying capacity,wear reduction,and stability of friction over *** friction and wear reduction effect of C12Amide-TEMPO is also greatly superior to those of C12Ester-TEMPO and C12Amino-TEMPO,in which ester and amino groups replace the amide group,highlighting the critical role of the amide *** QM calculation results suggest that,in contrast to C12Ester-TEMPO,C12Amino-TEMPO,and the conventional OFMs of GMO and stearic acid,C12Amide-TEMPO can form effective boundary films on iron oxide surfaces with a unique double-layer structure:a strong surface adsorption layer owing to the chemical interactions of the amide oxygen and free radical with iron oxide surfaces,and an upper layer owing to the interlayer hydrogen-bonding between the amide hydrogen and free radical or between the amide hydrogen and ***,the intralayer hydrogen-bonding in each of the two layers is also *** suggest that in addition to strong surface adsorption,the interlayer and intralayer hydrogen-bonding also increases the strength of the boundary films by enhancing the cohesion strength,thereby resulting in the high tribological performance of *** findings in this study are expected to provide new hints for the optimal molecular design of OFMs.

The Al-Zn eutectoid alloy has been widely known as a typical superplastic metallic material, where fine-grained microstructure is usually obtained by heat treatment. Recently, thermo-mechanical controlled process has also been reported to provide a fine-grained microstructure. In the present study, Al-Zn alloy ingots of 20 mm in thickness were homogenized and hot-rolled to a thickness of 2 mm under three processes： 1） the specimen was air-cooled after homogenization and hot-rolled; 2） the specimen was water-quenched after homogenization and hot-rolled; 3） the specimen was immediately hot-rolled after homogenization. Microstructural observation showed that, in processes l and 3, lamellar microstructure was formed after homogenization, and became fragmented to fine-grained microstructure as the hot roiling process proceeded. In process 2, fine-grained microstructure without lamellar microstructure was attained throughout the hot-rolling process. A minimum grain size of 1.6 μm was obtained in process 3. Tensile tests at room temperature showed that the elongation to failure was the largest in process 3.

Mitochondrial Respiration Is Associated with Alloxan-Induced Mitochondrial Permeability Transition

We previously showed that increased mitochondrial inner membrane permeability which is known as mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT) is triggered by adding succinate in the presence of the diabetogenic agent alloxan. Here, our aim was to investigate whether mitochondrial respiration is associated with alloxan-induced MPT. After mitochondria isolated from rat liver were incubated with alloxan at 37°C for 5 min, the addition of succinate immediately triggered the MPT in the presence of rotenone. However, little or no induction occurred at incubation temperatures below 25°C. Malate/glutamate also triggered MPT by alloxan in the absence of rotenone. In mitochondrial suspensions containing alloxan, succinate accelerated oxygen consumption that was completely inhibited by cyanide. These results suggest that mitochondrial respiration is associated with the alloxan-induced MPT. Alloxan radical production was investigated using ESR spectroscopy. Mitochondria incubated with succinate and alloxan elicited low signal intensity (radical formation) that increased significantly in the presence of cyanide. When the incubation of alloxan with mitochondria after the addition of succinate, a little intensity of the signal was observed, but it was remarkably increased after the addition of cyanide. Ubiquinone analogues inhibited the MPT induction. These results suggest that the initiation of MPT is associated with alloxan redox cycling via an electron transfer process at a quinone-binding site in respiratory mitochondria.

The results of optical spectroscopic monitoring observations of a young binary system, Z CMa, are presented in this study. Z CMa consists of a Herbig Be star and an FU Orionis object, and it shows irregular light variation in the quiescent phase and exploding brightening in the outburst phase. Medium-resolution spectra were obtained on 21 nights between 2015 and 2019 using the Nayuta telescope in Japan. We also used five high-resolution spectra, obtained between 2008 and 2011, with the Keck Telescope. During the outburst phase, the intensity of the He I absorption line increased with an increase in the luminosity of the system. Because the He I absorption line is a characteristic feature of an early-type star, we considered that the outbursts were caused by the Herbig Be star. The equivalent widths of the [O I] line decreased with an increase in the luminosity of the system. We claim steady mass loss at the rate of The intensities of the Hα and Fe II emission lines did not change during the outbursts. However, the line intensities increased with an increase in the luminosity of the system in the quiescent phase. We consider that those lines are attributed to the FU Orionis object and the light variations in the quiescent phase were caused by the FU Orionis object.

The results of near-infrared photometric observations of a transit event of an extrasolar planet HAT-P-54b are presented herein. Precise near-infrared photometry was carried out using the Nayuta 2 m telescope at Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory, Japan and Nishi-Harima Infrared Camera (NIC). 170 J-, H-, and Ks-band images were taken in each band in 196 minutes. The flux of the planetary system was observed to decrease during the transit event. While the Ks-band transit depth is similar to that in the r-band, the J- and H-band transits are deeper than those in the Ks-band. We constructed simple models of the planetary atmosphere and found that the observed transit depths are well reproduced by inflated atmosphere containing H2S molecule.

This paper presents an improvement of Herbrand's *** propose a method for specifying a subuniverse of the Herbrand universe of a clause set S for each argument of predicate symbols and function symbols in *** prove that a clause set S is unsatisfiable if and only if there is a finite unsatisfiable set of ground instances of clauses of S that are derived by only instantiating each variable,which appears as an argument of predicate symbols or function symbols,in S over its corresponding argument's sub-universe of the Herbrand universe of *** such sub-universes are usually smaller(sometimes considerably)than the Herbrand universe of S,the number of ground instances may decrease considerably in many *** present an algorithm for automatically deriving the sub-universes for arguments in a given clause set,and show the correctness of our ***,we introduce an application of our approach to model generation theorem proving for non-range-restricted problems,show the range-restriction transformation algorithm based on our improvement and provide examples on benchmark problems to demonstrate the power of our approach.
