＜正＞Single walled carbon nanotubes （SWNTs） can be viewed as tubes formed by the conformal mapping of graphite strips onto cylindrical surfaces. When stacked in bundles, these tubes form a two dimensional triangular lattice. In addition to many interesting and useful physical properties1 of SWNTs, these have been predicted to have remarkable mechanical resilience, such as reversible bending of isolated tubes to -110° 2. Recently several high pressure Raman studies have been carried out to understand the behaviour under high pressure. Based on these studies, existence of a structural phase transformation at 1.7 GPa3 and polygonization of tubes at - 2.5 GPa4 has been suggested. Another Raman investigation indicates a reversible phase transformation at 10 GPa5. To investigate the nature of structural changes under pressure, we have carried out in-situ high pressure x-ray diffraction study on SWNTs up to 13 GPa. These experiments were carried out at the SPringS synchrotron facility. Observed variation of the d-spacings as a function of pressure is shown in Fig. 1. Vanishing of the strongest and only recorded diffraction line （100） of the SWNTs show that the carbon nanotube bundles loose the triangular translational order beyond 10 GPa. However, before losing its translational coherence, the two-dimensional lattice softens substantially as is displayed by an upward jump of dioo of SWNTs in Fig. 1. This is rationalizable in terms of the formation of heterogeneous fins like structures, which may help reduce the average basal strain. These results also provide an explanation for the unusual downward jump of tangential mode of the Raman results at this pressure.5 On release of pressure, the tubes regain the triangular lattice structure. These experimental observations validate the predicted remarkable mechanical resilience of the carbon nanotubes. Ce-substituted Lithium Ferrite:Preparation and Electrical Relaxation Studies

Ce-substituted lithium ferrite, Li0.5CexFe2.5-x04 （x = 0, 0.05 and 0.1 ） compositions were synthesized from metal nitrates and citric acid by the solution combustion process by keeping the oxidizer to fuel ratio at unity. The thermal decomposition process was investigated by thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis, which showed a stable phase formation above 600 ℃. The phase composition and molecular bonding of Li0.5CexFe2.5_x04 were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, respectively. An extensive study of electrical relaxation process has been represented with impedance and modulus as a function of frequency at different temperatures. The activation energy obtained from both the formalisms was found to be equal within the error. The dc conductivity and hopping frequency were thermally activated and their activation energies were found to be in the range of 0.69-0.64 eV for x = 0.05. The scaling of modulus and impedance were used to understand the electrical relaxation behaviour of the compositions and they suggest the time temperature superposition principle.

Intra-population genetic variance for grain iron and zinc contents and agronomic traits in pearl millet

Crop biofortification is a sustainable approach for fighting micronutrient malnutrition in the world. The estimation of variance components in genetically broad-based populations provides information about their genetic architecture, allowing the design of an appropriate biofortification breeding method for cross-pollinated crops such as pearl millet. The objective of this study was to estimate intra-population genetic variance using self(S1) and half-sib(HS) progenies in two populations, AIMP92901 and ICMR312. Field trials were evaluated in two contrasting seasons(2009 rainy and 2010 summer; otherwise called environments) in Alfisols at ICRISAT, Patancheru. Analyses of variance showed highly significant variation for S1 s and HS progenies, reflecting high within-population genetic variation for both micronutrients and other key traits. However, the HS showed narrow ranges and lower genetic variances than the S1 for all of the traits. The micronutrients were highly positively correlated in S1(r = 0.77 to 0.86; P < 0.01) and HS(r = 0.74 to 0.77; P < 0.01)progenies of both populations, implying concurrent genetic improvement for both micronutrients. The genetic variance component was different among populations for Fe and Zn contents across environments, with AIMP92901 showing a greater proportion of dominance and ICMR312 greater additive variance for these micronutrients. The estimates of variance(additive and dominance) were specific for each population, given their dependence on the additive and dominance effects of the segregating loci, which also differ among populations. The possible causes for such differences were discussed. The results showed that the expression of these micronutrients in pearl millet shows largely additive variance, so that breeding high-iron hybrids will require incorporation of these micronutrient traits into both parental lines.

In this article,we introduce a nonlinear Caputo-type snakebite envenoming model with *** well-known Caputo fractional derivative is used to generalize the previously presented integer-order model into a fractionalorder *** numerical solution of the model is derived from a novel implementation of a finite-difference predictor-corrector(L1-PC)scheme with error estimation and stability *** proof of the existence and positivity of the solution is given by using the fixed point *** the necessary simulations,we justify that the first-time implementation of the proposedmethod on an epidemicmodel shows that the scheme is fully suitable and time-efficient for solving epidemic *** work aims to show the novel application of the given scheme as well as to check how the proposed snakebite envenoming model behaves in the presence of the Caputo fractional derivative,including memory effects.

Variations in texture of beach sediments in the vicinity of the Tirumalairajanar river mouth of India

The distribution of grain size parameters along 11 km stretch of the beach sediments between Karikal and Nagore,reveals that the mean grain size exhibits a marked decreasing trend on either side of the mouth of the Tirumalairajanar River which flow from west to *** sediments are mainly of medium to coarse grained,moderately sorted,near-symmetrical skewed to fine skewed and leptokurtic to mesokurtic in *** of various parameters shows bimodal nature of sediments having dominance of medium to coarse *** major part of the sediment fall in a coarse to fine grained category(sand and silt).Based on the CM(Coarser one percentile value in micron) pattern,the sediment fall in rolling and suspension *** factors includes the sediments discharged from the river mixes with offshore sediments and with the sediments eroded from a source *** effect of wave sorting, and the northward drifting of sediments by littoral current are *** indicate that the Tirumalairajanar River is the most important source for modern sediments in the study *** agitation by waves is an important sorting mechanism in the study area,and the net sediment transport in the study area is *** findings are based on the grain sizes and also corroborated by shortterm observations of the beach sediment dynamics and transport during the monsoon and summer seasons between Karaikal and Nagore region.
