Oilfield geothermal resources of the Upper Assam Petroliferous Basin,NE India

Evolutionary divergence in Chenopodium and validation of SNPs in chloroplast rbcL and matK genes by allele-specific PCR for development of Chenopodium quinoa-specific markers

The genus Chenopodium comprises about 150 species, of which Chenopodium quinoa and C. album are important for their nutritional value. Evaluation of variation in qualitative morphological traits of plants and SNPs in chloroplast rbc L and mat K gene sequences in 19 accessions representing C. quinoa and C. album indicated that the accessions IC-411824 and IC-411825,which have white seeds, belong to C. quinoa rather than C. album. This observation was also supported by a time tree that indicated IC-411824 and IC-411825 to be a sister clade to accessions of C. quinoa with an estimated age of 1.2 Mya. Whereas multiple alignments of rbc L gene sequences from the 19 accessions revealed 1.26% parsimony-informative sites with 0.68%interspecific sequence diversity, alignment of nucleotide sequences of amplicons representing the mat K gene revealed 4.97% parsimony-informative sites and 2.81% interspecific sequence diversity. Validation of SNPs in the cp rbc L and mat K regions of 36 accessions belonging to C. quinoa and C. album was performed by allele-specific PCR with primers carrying a single base change at the 3′ end. We report the first C. quinoa-specific SNP-based primer, R1RQ-AFR,designed from rbc L sequences, that could differentiate quinoa from 64 genera including13 species of the genus Chenopodium. With an estimated age of 10.5–4.1 million years(Myr), the Himalayan chenopods are evolutionarily younger than the Andean chenopods. The results establish the paraphyletic origin of the genus Chenopodium.

Synthesis of pr-doped ZnO nanoparticles: Their structural,optical, and photocatalytic properties

Undoped and praseodymium-doped zinc oxide （pr-doped ZnO）（with 2.0-mol%-6.0-mol% pr） nanoparticles as sunlight-driven photocatalysts are synthesized by means of co-precipitation with nitrates followed by thermal annealing. The structure, morphology, and chemical bonding of the photocatalysts are studied by x-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM） with energy dispersive x-ray emission spectroscopy （EDS）, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, respectively. The optical properties are studied by photolu- minescence （PL） and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy （UV-vis DRS）. We find that pr doping does not change the crystallinity of ZnO; but it reduces the bandgap slightly, and restrains the recombination of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs. The photocatalytic performance of the photocatalysts is investigated by the photodegradation reaction of 10-mg/L rhodamine B （RhB） solution under simulated sunlight irradiation, showing a degradation rate of 93.75% in ZnO doped with 6.0-mo1% pr.

In Eastern South America, high altitude grasslands represent a mountain system that has a high number of endemic species. However, studies on the ecology of plant communities in these environments remain scarce. We aimed to evaluate the patterns of biodiversity and structure of plant communities from rocky outcrops in high altitude grasslands of three areas at the Caparaó National Park, southeastern Brazil, by sampling 300 randomly distributed plots. Then, we compared the floristic composition, relative abundance, and biological and vegetation spectra among areas. We classified species as endemic and non-endemic and verified the occurrence of endangered species. Species richness was evaluated by rarefaction analysis on the sampling units. The importance value and species abundance distribution(sad) models were assessed. We also performed an indicator species analysis. We sampled 58 species belonging to 49 genera and 32 families. The number of species decreased with increasing altitude, with significant differences being observed among areas regarding richness, abundance, and cover. Of the total number of species, 10 are endemic to the Caparaó National Park and 17 are listed on the Brazilian Red List of endangered species. The dominant families on all peaks were Asteraceae and Poaceae. The sad models showed lognormal and geometric distributions, corroborating the fact that 10 species that were common to all three areas were also the most dominant ones in the communities and showed the highest importance values, which ranged between 35% and 60%. Indicator species analysis revealed that 28 species(48.27%) were indicators. Of these, 42.85% had maximum specificity, meaning that they occurred only in one area. Thus, the number of species per life form ratio was similar among areas, yet vegetation spectra differed, especially for hemicryptophytes. Computation of Energy, Intensity and Thermodynamic Parameters for the Interaction of Ln(III) with Nucleic Acid: Analysis of Structural Conformations, Chemical Kinetics and Thermodynamic Behaviour through 4f-4f Transition Spectra as probe

Nucleosides and Nucleotides are polydentate ligands, offering potential binding sites for metal ions. Energy interaction parameters: Slater Condon Fk (cm-1), Spin Orbit interaction ξ4f? (cm-1), Nephelauxetic Ratio (β), Bonding (b1/2) and Covalency (δ) parameter for the interaction of pr(III) with Nucleoside and Nucleotide are evaluated to study the mode of binding of the Nucleic Acid Components (guanosine and guanosine Triphosphate) with pr(III). Further Intensity Parameters like Oscillation Strength and Judd Ofelt Parameter (T2, T4, T6) have been evaluated to investigate degree of inner or outer sphere co-ordination of pr(III) with Nucliec Acid ligands. Comperative Absorption Spectra in different solvents substantiate the informations, gathered from the evaluated values of both energy interaction and intensity parameters. Further evaluation of Thermodynamic parameters (Δg, ΔH and ΔS) through Kinetic studies enable to provide the detailed information about the reaction pathways and thermodynamic behavour of the complexation process of neucleosides and nucleotides with pr(III) and Ca2+.
