We present a proof of the discrete maximum principle(dMP)for the 1d Poisson equation−u"=f equipped with mixed dirichlet-Neumann boundary *** problem is discretized using finite elements of arbitrary lengths a.d.polynomial degrees(hp-FEM).We show that the dMP holds on all meshes with no limitations to the sizes a.d.polynomial degrees of the elements.

Seafloor irregularities influence rupture behavior along the subducting slab a.d.in the overriding plate,thus affecting earthquake *** seafloor irregularities increase the likelihood of large earthquakes in a subduction zone remains contested,partially due to focus put either on fault development or on rupture ***,we simulate a subducting slab with a seafloor irregularity a.d.the resulting deformation pattern of the overriding plate using the discrete element *** simulations illustrate the rupture along three major fault systems:megathrust,splay a.d.backthrust *** results show different rupture dimensions of earthquake events varying from tens to ca.140 *** results suggest that the recurrence interval of megathrust events with rupture length of ca.100 km is ca.140 years,which is overall comparable to the paleoseismic records at the Mentawai area of the Sumatran *** further propose the coseismic slip amounts decrease a.d.interseismic slip amounts increase from the surface downwa.d. *** conclude that the presence of seafloor irregularities significantly affects rupture events along the slab as well as fault patterns in the overriding plate.

The Campos Gerais domain(CGd)in southeastern Brazil is an approximately 180 km×35 km area of Archean–Proterozoic rocks located southwest of the São Francisco Craton(SFC).The Archean–Paleopro terozoic evolution of the CGd—alongside its potential correlation with the SFC or other cratonic blocks in the region-is currently *** present the results of systematic petrography,bulkrock geochemistry,mineral chemistry a.d.geochronology for a suite of scarcely studied mafic–ultramafic rocks from the *** also provide a compilation of previously reported bulk-rock geochemical a.d.spinel group mineral chemical data for mafic–ultramafic rocks throughout the CGd,a.d.geochronological information for various lithotypes in the *** CGd records a protracted Mesoarchean to Statherian(3.1–1.7 Ga)crustal evolution,which we interpret to share a common history with the southern SFC a.d.their related reworked segments,suggesting that it is a westwa.d.extension of this cratonic *** metavolcano-sedimentary rocks of the Fortaleza.d. Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the second most common cause of cancer-related death in western countries. Approximately one-quarter of newly diagnosed patients for CRC have metastases, a.d.a further 40%-50% experience disease recurrence or develop metastases after all sta.d.rd therapies. Therefore, understa.d.ng the molecular mechanisms involved in the progression of CRC a.d.subsequently developing novel therapeutic targets is crucial to improve management of CRC a.d.patients' long-term survival. Several tyrosine kinase receptors have been implicated in CRC development, progression a.d.metastasis, including epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) a.d.vascular EGFR. Recently, tropomyosin-related kinase B(Trk B), a tyrosine kinase receptor, has been reported in CRC a.d.found to clearly exert several biological a.d.clinical features, such as tumor cell growth a.d.survival in vitro a.d.in vivo, metastasis formation a.d.poor prognosis. Here we review the significance of Trk B a.d.its liga.d.brain derived-neurotrophic factor in CRC. We focus on their expression in CRC tumor samples, a.d.their functional roles in CRC cell lines a.d.in in vivo models. Finally we discuss therapeutic approaches that can lead to the development of novel therapeutic agents for treating Trk B-expressing CRC tumors.

AIM: To search tools of high blood pressure in the model of nitric oxide (NO)-defective hypertension, a.d.the study focused on the effect of rilmenidine, agonist of imidazoline receptors, which was suggested to modulate central sympathetic outflow. METHOdS: Three experimental groups, each consisting of 7 rats, were used: (I) rats with inhibition of NO synthase (NOS) by NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) 40 mg·kg-1·d-1 for 4 weeks in drinking water, (II) rats with inhibited NOS as in group I , plus agonist of imidazoline receptors rilmenidine 3 mg·kg-1·d-1 for 4weeks by gavage, a.d.III) control rats. Systolic blood pressure wasmeasured weekly noninvasively. At the end of experiment aortic ring isometric tension was followed, NOS expression (aorta, left ventricle), a.d. NOS activity (left ventricle a.d.brain) were determined. RESULTS: In the group I systolic blood pressure in- creased significantly, aortic ring relaxation to acetylcholine was significantly attenuated. Rilmenidine administered simultaneously with L-NAME (group II) prevented the increase of blood pressure which did not differ significantly from control values; aortic ring relaxation to acetylcholine did not differ from control. No change in NOS expres- sion (aorta a.d.left ventricle) was found in groups I a.d.II. Significant decline in NOS activity (left ventricle a.d. brain) wasfound in groups I a.d.II. CONCLUSION: Rilmenidinehas aremarkable role inNO-defective hypertension, possibly by inhibiting central sympathetic outflow a.d.by affecting receptors in vascular smooth muscle also. The prime cause of hypertension in this experimental model - the compromised production of NO due to inhibition of NOS - was not affected by rilmenidine.

Numerical modeling of bedload a.d.suspended load contributions to morphological evolution of the Seine Estuary(France)

This numerical modeling study(i) assesses the influence of the sediment erosion process on the sediment dynamics a.d.subsequent morphological changes of a mixed-sediment environment, the macrotidal Seine estuary, when non-cohesive particles are dominant within bed mixtures(non-cohesive regime), a.d.ii) investigates respective contributions of bedload a.d.suspended load in these dynamics.A three dimensional(3 d) process-based morphodynamic model was set up a.d.run under realistic forcings(including tide, waves, wind, a.d.river discharge) during a 1-year period. Applying erosion homogeneously to bed sediment in the non-cohesive regime, i.e., average erosion parameters in the erosion law(especially the erodibility parameter, E0), leads to higher resuspension of fine sediment due to the presence of coarser fractions within mixtures, compared to the case of an independent treatment of erosion for each sediment class. This results in more pronounced horizontal sediment flux(two-fold increase for sa.d. +30% for mud) a.d.erosion/deposition patterns(up to a two-fold increase in erosion over shoals, generally associated with some coarsening of bed sediment). Compared to observed bathymetric changes, more relevant erosion/deposition patterns are derived from the model when independent resuspension fluxes are considered in the non-cohesive regime. These results suggest that this kind of approach may be more relevant when local grain-size distributions become heterogeneous a.d.multimodal for non-cohesive particles. Bedload transport appears to be a non-dominant but significant contributor to the sediment dynamics of the Seine Estuary mouth. The residual bedload flux represents, on average, between 17 a.d.38% of the suspended sa.d.flux, its contribution generally increasing when bed sediment becomes coarser(can become dominant at specific locations).
