cryptic species composition and genetic diversity within Bemisia tabaci complex in soybean in India revealed by mtcOI DNA sequence

Bemisia tabaci is a cryptic species complex, causing signiifcant loss on many agricultural y important crops worldwide. Knowledge on species composition and diversity within B. tabaci complex is critical for evolving sustainable pest management strategies. Here we investigate the whitelfy species complex in soybean in major soybean growing states of India. The mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase gene subunit-1 (mtcOI) based phylogenetic relationships established using Bayesian methods indicated the existence of three cryptic species namely Asia I, Asia II 1, and Asia II 7. Al the haplotypes detected in the study could be assigned to these three cryptic species fol owing the species demarcation criteria of 3.5%divergence threshold. Of these, Asia II 1 was found to be predominant with wide spread distribution across the surveyed regions from cool temperate zones to hot and humid tropical plains. On the contrary, cryptic species Asia II 7 showed localized distribu-tion. The Asia II 1 exhibited the highest haplotype diversity and Asia I showed high level of nucleotide diversity. There was a signiifcantly high genetic differentiation among these three cryptic species. The MEAM 1, a dreadful invasive species was not detected in the specimens tested in the current study. The diversity and distribution of three cryptic species is discussed in the light of current knowledge on distribution of whitelfy species in India and yel ow mosaic disease observed during sampling survey.

The generalized noncommutative torus Tkp of rank n was defined in [4] by the crossed product Am/k ×a3 Z ×a4 … ×an Z, where the actions ai of Z on the fibre Mk(c) of a rational rotation algebra Am/k are trivial, and c*(kZ × kZ) ×a3 Z ×a4 ... ×an Z is a completely irrational noncommutative torus Ap of rank n. It is shown in this paper that Tkp is strongly Morita equivalent to Ap, and that Tkp (?) Mp∞ is isomorphic to Ap (?) Mk(c) (?) Mp∞ if and only if the set of prime factors of k is a subset of the set of prime factors of p.

What is the most cost-effective strategy to screen for second primary colorectal cancers in male cancer survivors in Korea?

AIM： To identify a cost-effective strategy of second primary colorectal cancer （cRc） screening for cancer survivors in Korea using a decision-analytic model. METHODS： A Markov model estimated the clinical and economic consequences of a simulated 50-year- old male cancer survivors＇ cohort, and we compared the results of eight screening strategies： no screening, fecal occult blood test （FOBT） annually, FOBT every 2 years, sigmoidoscopy every 5 years, double contrast barium enema every 5 years, and colonoscopy every 10 years （cOL10）, every 5 years （cOL5）, and every 3 years （cOL3）. We included only direct medical costs, and our main outcome measures were discounted lifetime costs, life expectancy, and incremental cost- effectiveness ratio （IcER）. RESULTS： In the base-case analysis, the non-dominat- ed strategies in cancer survivors were cOL5, and cOL3. The IcER for cOL3 in cancer survivors was $5593/life- year saved （LYS）, and did not exceed $10000/LYS in one-way sensitivity analyses. If the risk of cRc in can- cer survivors is at least two times higher than that in the general population, cOL5 had an IcER of less than $10500/LYS among both good and poor prognosis of index cancer. If the age of cancer survivors starting cRc screening was decreased to 40 years, the IcER of cOL5 was tess than $7400/LYS regardless of screening compliance. cONcLUSION： Our study suggests that more strict and frequent recommendations for colonoscopy such as cOL5 and cOL3 could be considered as economically reasonable second primary cRc screening strategies for Korean male cancer survivors.

Mechanistic insights of enhanced spin polaron conduction in cuO through atomic doping

The formation of a“spin polaron”stems from strong spin-charge-lattice interactions in magnetic oxides,which leads to a localization of carriers accompanied by local magnetic polarization and lattice *** example,cupric oxide(cuO),which is a promising photocathode material and shares important similarities with high Tc superconductors,conducts holes through spin polaron hopping with flipped spins at cu atoms where a spin polaron has *** formation of these spin polarons results in an activated hopping conduction process where the carriers must not only overcome strong electron−phonon coupling but also strong magnetic ***,these effects cause low carrier conduction in cuO and hinder its *** overcome this fundamental limitation,we demonstrate from first-principles calculations how doping can improve hopping conduction through simultaneous improvement of hole concentration and hopping mobility in magnetic oxides such as ***,using Li doping as an example,we show that Li has a low ionization energy that improves hole concentration,and lowers the hopping barrier through both the electron−phonon and magnetic couplings'reduction that improves hopping ***,this improved conduction predicted by theory is validated through the synthesis of Li-doped cuO electrodes which show enhanced photocurrent compared to pristine cuO *** conclude that doping with nonmagnetic shallow impurities is an effective strategy to improve hopping conductivities in magnetic oxides.

Detecting and Adjusting Temporal Inhomogeneity in chinese Mean Surface Air Temperature Data

Adopting the Easterling-Peterson (EP) techniques and considering the reality of chinese meteorological observations, this paper designed several tests and tested for inhomogeneities in all chinese historical surface air temperature series from 1951 to 2001. The result shows that the time series have been widely impacted by inhomogeneities resulting from the relocation of stations and changes in local environment such as urbanization or some other factors. Among these factors, station relocations caused the largest magnitude of abrupt changes in the time series, and other factors also resulted in inhomogeneities to some extent. According to the amplitude of change of the difference series and the monthly distribution features of surface air temperatures, discontinuities identified by applying both the E-P technique and supported by china's station history records, or by comparison with other approaches, have been adjusted. Based on the above processing, the most significant temporal inhomogeneities were eliminated, and china's most homogeneous surface air temperature series has thus been created. Results show that the inhomogeneity testing captured well the most important change of the stations, and the adjusted dataset is more reliable than ever. This suggests that the adjusted temperature dataset has great value of decreasing the uncertaities in the study of observed climate change in china.

Acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding in operated stomach: Outcome of 105 cases

AIM: To compare the causes and clinical outcome of patients with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGB) and a history of gastric surgery to those with AUGB but without a history of gastric surgery in the ***: The causes and clinical outcome were compared between 105 patients with AUGB and a history of gastric surgery, and 608 patients with AUGB but without a history of gastric ***: Patients who underwent gastric surgery in the past were older (mean age: 68.1±11.7 years vs 62.8±17.8 years, P= 0.001), and the most common cause of bleeding was marginal ulcer in 63 patients (60%). No identifiable source of bleeding could be found in 22 patients (20.9%) compared to 42/608 (6.9%) in patients without a history of gastric surgery (P = 0.003). Endoscopic hemostasis was permanently successful in 26 out of 35 patients (74.3%) with peptic ulcers and active bleeding or non-bleeding visible vessel. Nine patients (8.6%) were operated due to continuing or recurrent bleeding,compared to 23/608 (3.8%) in the group of patients without gastric surgery in the past (P= 0.028). Especially in peptic ulcer bleeding patients, emergency surgery was more common in the group of patients with gastric surgery in the past [9/73 (12.3%) vs 19/360 (5.3%), P = 0.025].Moreover surgically treated patients in the past required more blood transfusion (3.3±4.0 vs 1.5±1.7, P = 0.0001) and longer hospitalization time (8.6±4.0 vs 6.9±4.9 d,P = 0.001) than patients without a history of gastric surgery. Mortality was not different between the two groups [4/105 (3.8%) vs 19/608 (3.1%)].cONcLUSION: Upper gastrointestinal bleeding seems to be more severe in surgically treated patients than in non-operated patients.

conservation of natural enemy fauna in citrus canopies by horticultural mineral oil： comparison with effects of carbaryl and methidathion treatments for control of armored scales

The disruptive effects of an nc24 horticultural mineral oil （HMO） and two other insecticides （carbaryl and methidathion） on two armored scale insects and natural enemy fauna were evaluated in two citrus orchards. In the first orchard, all three spray treatments and non-sprayed controls were distributed separately among individual trees in one block, whereas in the second orchard the control, HMO and methidathion treatments were applied at the level of whole blocks. The results in both orchards were similar. All three of the spray treatments had a lethal effect on the red scale insects and the effects of HMO and methidathion tested at the second site lasted for at least 19 weeks and for purple scale, at least 50 weeks. HMO did not have a significant effect on the abundance and species diversity of parasitoids and （for the most part） did not affect coccinellids and predatory mites. Both carbaryl and methidathion caused significant ongoing disruption to the above groups. No treatment resulted in the resurgence of the scale insects or the outbreak ofphytophagous mites, even where whole blocks were sprayed.

Mechanical and natural ventilation systems in a greenhouse designed using computational fluid dynamics

The aim of this study was to analyse air exchange and temperature distribution in a greenhouse with combined mechanical and natural ventilation and to design more efficient mechanical ventilation *** this purpose,a computational fluid dynamics(cFD)model of the greenhouse was *** configurations were considered:configuration 1(mechanical ventilation and closed roof ventilators),configurations 2 and 3(mechanical ventilation and roof ventilators open 30%and 100%,respectively).After validation,the cFD model was used to improve the design of the greenhouse mechanical ventilation system in each of the three configurations *** greenhouse lengths,28 m,50 m,75 m and 100 m,were used in the *** to fan ventilation only,roof ventilation improved the climate of fan-ventilated greenhouses in terms of the air exchange rate(22%)and climate uniformity because the internal air was mixed better than with mechanical ventilation *** the greenhouse length increased,more advantages were achieved with natural ventilation compared to mechanical *** most configurations,there was a strong linear correlation between temperature gradient and greenhouse *** greenhouse whose regression line had the steepest slope was the one with closed roof *** the fan capacity produced a general reduction in temperature,but the effect was less intense for the greenhouses with open roof *** to box inlet ventilators,an enlarged continuous inlet in the wall opposite the fans increased overall system performance because it eliminated backflow recirculation zones,which are prone to produce high temperatures.

PLASMA SPRAYED Ti AND HA cOATINGS: A cOMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN APS AND VPS

Titanium (Ti) and hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings have been prepared via air (APS) and vacuum plasma spraying (VPS), and then their composition, structure, bonding strength and bioactivity were examined. The results obtained reveal that in APS process many of Ti were oxidized, but in VPS the oxidization was avoided. VPS T i coating possesses better bonding condition than APS Ti coating. As for HA coat ing, higher crystallinity has been obtained while the coating was deposited by V PS as compared with APS. The simulated body fluid (SBF) tests show that both of APS and VPS HA coatings possess good bioactivity. As compared with APS, VPS is r ecommended as a better method to deposit Ti and HA coatings that can be applied as hard tissue replacement implants.
