Metabolic derivatives of alcohol and the molecular culpritsof fibro-hepatocarcinogenesis:Allies or enemies?

Reliability of the Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler's soft song in male-male conflict

Background: Soft song is a low-amplitude song produced by many birds. Recent studies have confirmed that soft song is an aggressive signal. For example, the Brownish-flanked Bush Warblers Cettia fortipes use soft song in male-male conflicts, particularly prior to attacks. Although stable signaling systems require that signals be honest on average,models predict that cheating is an acceptable strategy for some individuals or in some ***: This study aimed to test the reliability of soft song as an aggressive signal in the brownish-flanked bush warbler. We used mounted specimens accompanied by broadcast songs or soft songs to simulate a male attempting to invade an existing ***: We found the mounted specimen that coupled playback of soft songs suffered more and quicker attacks from the territory owner and that the relationship between soft song and subsequent attack in the territory owner was far from perfect. We observed territory owners that both over-signaled(i.e., produced soft song but did not attack) and under-signaled(i.e., attacked without producing soft song). Under-signaling territory owners were relatively more commonly than were over-signaling territory owners, particularly in simulated intrusion that coupled playback of soft song with a mount ***: We discuss the cost of producing soft song and the potential benefit of the unreliable use of soft song and propose a new hypothesis for under-signaling with soft song; i.e., under-signaling territory owners might benefit from taking the initiative in fights.

Comparing post-release survival and habitat use by captive-bred Cabot's Tragopan(Tragopan caboti) in an experimental test of soft-release reintroduction strategies

Background: Restoring a viable population by reintroduction is the ultimate goal of a large number of ex situ conservation projects for endangered animals. However, many reintroductions fail to establish a population in the wild, partly because released animals cannot acclimate to the native environment of the release site, resulting in very low survival rates. Acclimation training is a technique to resolve this problem, although it does not have positive results in all species. We tested whether acclimation training and soft-release could improve the reintroduction success for captive-bred Cabot's Tragopan(Tragopan caboti), an endangered pheasant in southern ***: Reintroduction of captive-bred Cabot's Tragopan was carried out in the Taoyuandong National Nature Reserve, China from 2010 to 2011. We built a soft-release enclosure for acclimation training in the typical montane habitat of this pheasant. Nine birds were acclimated to the environment of this release site in this cage for more than 50 days before release("trained birds"), while 11 birds remained only in the cage for 3 days prior to release("untrained birds"). Released birds were tagged with a collar ***: Post-release monitoring revealed that the survival rate of trained birds was higher than that of untrained birds after 50 days(trained: 85.7%; untrained: 20.0%). Cox regression analysis showed that there was a significant difference in the mortality rates between the trained and untrained birds. In addition, a survey of the habitat of the experimental and the control groups showed significant differences in habitat selection between the ***: Our study suggests that pre-release acclimatization training is an important factor that can lead to improved survival and habitat selection of captive-bred reintroduced tragopans.

Background The association between substance use including marijuana use and attempted suicide has been well ***,little is known about marijuana use and its association with attempted suicide repetition among young people in low-income and middle-income *** This analysis was conducted to assess the factors associated with marijuana use and ascertain marijuana use as a determinant of repeated attempted suicide among senior high school(SHS)students in *** Data from the 2012 Global School-Based Student Health Survey in Ghana was used for this *** Poisson,Logistic and Probit models weighted with Mahalanobis distance matching within propensity calliper were employed separately to determine the hypothetical association between marijuana use and repeated attempted *** analysis was performed using Stata 16 and p<0.05 was deemed statistically *** The prevalence estimates of marijuana use and repeated attempted suicide among SHS students in Ghana were 3.4%(95%Cl:2.3 to 5.1)and 11.5%(95%Cl:9.1 to 14.4),*** prevalence of marijuana use was significantly associated with school grade,smoking exposure,parent smoker,alcohol intake and *** use was positively associated with repeated attempted suicide among SHS in Ghana correlation=0.23,p<*** attempted suicide among students who use marijuana was approximately threefold and fivefold significant compared with nonmarijuana use students,based on the Poisson(adjusted prevalence ratio:3.02;95%Cl:1.67 to 5.43,p<0.001)and Logistic(adjusted OR:5.06;95%Cl:3.19 to 11.64,p<0.001)estimates ***,the Probit model showed that marijuana use significantly increased the log count of repeated attempted suicide by 95%(ap:0.95;95%CI:0.49 to 1.41,p<0.001).Conclusion Marijuana use does not only influence the onset of suicidal attempts but also repeated attempted suicide among SHS students in *** attention is required for suicide

A Short-Term Stock Exchange Prediction Model Using Box-Jenkins Approach

This paper developed a short-term stock exchange prediction model using the Box-Jenkins approach. In this study, monthly data from Ghana Stock Exchange market report that spans from March 2013 to February 2018 were used to develop the model. ARIMA (0, 2, 1) model was fitted to the data based on the Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) for model selection. Diagnostic checks showed that the residuals of the fitted model were uncorrelated. The developed model was used for forecasting for a period of six months. The trend of the forecasted values showed a significant increase in the Ghana Stock Exchange performance for the next six months.

研究目的:结核病虽然得到有效控制,但是对世界各国的公共卫生,特别是非洲等地区仍然构成较大威胁。利比里亚的结核病患病率高于世界平均水平,给该国造成较大负担。本研究通过对2015018年利比里亚蒙罗维亚市结核病患病情况调查,分析其流行特征及临床症状、生活行为和艾滋病毒感染等影响因素,为制定相应的防控措施和策略提供科学依据。研究方法:收集2015018年期间在利比里亚首都蒙罗维亚参加国家麻风病和结核病控制中心确诊的1208例结核病患者信息,通过调查问卷和医院记录收集其性别、年龄、婚姻状况、民族、职业等人口学资料,吸烟、饮酒等生活习惯,居住情况,生活水平和检查相关信息,X线胸片、结核部位、痰涂片、痰培养检查,结核病症状等临床表现,艾滋病毒患病信息。对结核病的治愈情况进行了回顾性研究,计数资料用率或构成比表示,组间比较采用卡方检验,比较不同特征结核病患者治愈情况的差异。多因素分析应用二分类Logistic回归模型,评估影响利比里亚蒙罗维亚市结核病患者治愈的因素。应用IBM SPSS 24.0统计软件和Microsoft Excel 2016进行数据处理与分析。检验水平为α=0.05。研究结果:研究期间共调查结核病患者1208人,其中完全治愈的患者为67名(5.5%),660名(54.6%)患者治愈,239名(19.9%)患者在治疗期结束前治愈。87名患者(7.2%)死亡,155(12.8%)名患者治疗中断,治愈率为79.97%。在2015-2016年入院治疗的结核病患者中,304岁年龄组的患者所占比重较高,均为50%以上。不同性别、拥挤情况、CXR情况、吸烟情况、结核症状的调查对象结核病治愈率的差异具有统计学意义(p<0.05)。女性结核病患者的治愈率为76.32%,低于男性患者;已婚结核病患者的治愈率为78.97%,低于单身患者。多因素分析结果显示,吸烟(OR=6.670,p<0.001)是影响利比里亚蒙罗维亚市结核病治愈的危险因素,无结核病家族史(OR=0.653,p=0.020)可能是其保护因素。研究结论:1.2015018年利比里亚蒙罗维亚市结核病的治愈率为79.97%,低于全球平均水平,应引起足够重视。2.影响利比里亚蒙罗维亚市结核病治愈的危险因素为吸烟和家庭感染病史,为提高结核病的治愈率,应控制吸烟行为。

White Blood Cells Detection Using Spectral Tresholding

The study of the morphology of White Blood Cells (WBCs) further contributes to the clinical diagnosis of blood diseases. In this research paper, we come up with an image segmentation enhancement by combining Fourier Fast Transform on smear blood capture and classical thresholding. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is a very powerful tool in image processing and it was used to segment and extract the WBCs. Our image processing method uses a Fast Fourier Transform combined with filtering and an Inverse Fast Fourier Transform for the extraction and visualization of the high frequency region of the image. In order to remove residual Red Blood Cells acting as noise in the expected result, a final thresholding step is added at the end of the processing. The results presented in this article report the tests performed using our mathematical implementation. Moreover, we were able to detect and differentiate the sub-families of WBCs.

The diminutive aorta presents technical challenges in the palliation of hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Furthermore, aortic arch caliber changes and variable great vessel relationships can add complexity to an already difficult arch repair. We describe a technical approach that simplifies the aortic reconstruction and makes the procedure more generalizable and reproducible.
