Melt extrusion-based additive manufacturing(ME-AM)is a promising technique to fabricate porous scaffolds for tissue engi-neering ***,most synthetic semicrystalline polymers do not possess the intrinsic biological activity required to control cell *** of biomolecules on polymeric surfaces of AM scaffolds enhances the bioactivity of a construct;however,there are limited strategies available to control the surface ***,we report a strategy to tune the surface density of bioactive groups by blending a low molecular weight poly(ε-caprolactone)5k(PCL5k)containing orthogonally reactive azide groups with an unfunctionalized high molecular weight PCL75k at different *** porous three-dimensional(3D)scaf-folds were then fabricated using a high weight percentage(75 wt.%)of the low molecular weight PCL *** a proof-of-concept test,we prepared films of three different mass ratios of low and high molecular weight polymers with a thermopress and reacted with an alkynated fluorescent model compound on the surface,yielding a density of 201-561 pmol/cm^(2).Subsequently,a bone morphogenetic protein 2(BMP-2)-derived peptide was grafted onto the films comprising different blend compositions,and the effect of peptide surface density on the osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stromal cells(hMSCs)was *** two weeks of culturing in a basic medium,cells expressed higher levels of BMP receptor II(BMPRII)on films with the conjugated *** addition,we found that alkaline phosphatase activity was only significantly enhanced on films contain-ing the highest peptide density(i.e.,561 pmol/cm^(2)),indicating the importance of the surface *** together,these results emphasize that the density of surface peptides on cell differentiation must be considered at the cell-material ***,we have presented a viable strategy for ME-AM community that desires to tune the bulk and surface functionality via blending of(m

Communication for cooperative traffic management increases convenience and efficiency in driving. Intelligent vehicles can collect information about the driving environment, the driver situation and, more importantly, information on other vehicles. While giving this information to the driver can be useful, there is also the possibility of presenting the driver with too much information. Existing vehicles already have some mechanisms to take certain actions if the driver fails to act. Future vehicles will need more complex decision-making modules which receive the raw data from all available sources, process this data and inform the driver about existing or impending situations and suggest, or even take actions. In this work, we explore the use of a decision-making module for accident situations that processes information from VANET communication and advises the driver based on the situation. Our decision-making algorithm is a simple and effective algorithm that can be implemented in each vehicle to assist the driver in situations where rerouting to avoid traffic congestion caused by an accident may be necessary. Our approach estimates accident duration and provides a rerouting for upcoming traffic. Our algorithm has been implemented and evalu- ated within an elegant traffic simulation system where both city and highway environments are considered, along with various proportions of V2V-equipped vehicles. Overall, the results indicate that using our decision-making module in vehicles shows great potential for improving performance of vehicular systems by reducing both travel and wait times and providing more accurate information on surrounding environments.

Seizures of agrochemical formulations have increased in Brazil and Rio Grande do Sul is among the Brazilian states with the highest number of seizures of these products obtained illicitly. The use of illicit formulations can cause significant harm to agricultural production, the environment, and non-target species. This study evaluated the cytotoxicity and oxidative stress of a seized formulation containing the herbicide imazethapyr (IMZT). Characterization of the herbicide included gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and thermal analyses (thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)). Hemolytic and cytotoxicity assays in ZF-L hepatic cells showed IC50 values of 12.75 µg/mL, 3.01 µg/mL, 2.67 µg/mL, and 1.61 µg/mL for erythrocytes, [3(4,5-dimethyl)-2 bromide-5 diphenyl tetrazolium] (MTT), neutral red (NR), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assays, respectively. The median IC50 of 2.84 µg/mL was used in oxidative stress assays, revealing increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, reduced total sulfhydryl content, and decreased superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activity. This study is the first to report in vitro oxidative stress induced by IMZT in the ZF-L cell line, emphasizing the importance of in vitro assays for assessing the toxic effects of seized agrochemicals on human health and the environment.

This article proposes algorithms to determine an optimal choice of the Reed-Solomon forward error correction （FEC） code parameters （n,k） to mitigate the effects of packet loss on multimedia traffic caused by buffer overflow at a wireless base station. A network model is developed that takes into account traffic arrival rates, channel loss characteristics, the capacity of the buffer at the base station, and FEC parameters. For Poisson distributed traffic, the theory of recurrent linear equations is applied to develop a new closed form solution of low complexity of the Markov model for the buffer occupancy. For constant bit rate （CBR） traffic, an iterative procedure is developed to compute the packet loss probabilities after FEC recovery.

With the development of high power ultrafast laser passively mode-locked by a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror （SESAM）, the damage threshold and degeneration mechanism of the SESAM become more and more important. One way to reduce the maximum electric field inside the active part of the SESAM is the use of a dielectric coating on the top of the semiconductor structure. With Presnel formula, optical transfer matrix, and optical thin film theory, the electric field distribution and reflectance spectrum can be simulated. We introduce the design principles of SESAM including the dependence of reflectance spectrum on dielectric function of absorber, and investigate the dependences of the electric field distribution, modulation depth, reflectance spectrum, and the relative value of incident light power at the top quantum well of SESAM on the number of SiO2/Ta2O5 layers.

Ultrafast spectroscopy of semiconductor saturable absorber mirror （SESAM） is measured using a femtosec- ond pump-probe experiment. This allows dynamic responses of SESAM in the cavity to be concluded by ultrafast spectroscopy. Change in reflection is measured as a function of pump-probe delay for different pump excitation fluences. Change of nonlinear reflection of SESAM is measured as a function of incident light energy density. When the excitation fluence increases, nonlinear change in ultrafast spectroscopy of SESAM becomes increasingly significant. When SESAM is pumped by an ultrahigh excitation fluence, the energy density of which is approximately 1400 μJ/cm2, two-photon absorption can be observed visibly in its ultrafast spectroscopy.

Samples obtained from an industrialized valley in the East Alpine region were collected daily for a half year and analyzed using X-ray fluorescence to examine the elements Si, Al, Fe, Ca, Mg, Na, k, Zn, P, S and Cl. Some factors affecting the changes of these elements were considered, including time, elemental correlations, weekday, weekend and seasonal changes. Diagnostic analysis provided an insight into a decoupling behavior that occursin siliceous and carbonates minerals. A decrease in Si and Al and an increase in carbonates, Na, k, Zn and P were observed during the cold season. However, a consistently high correlation of Si and Al was observed in all seasons. It was established that such high levels originated from street surface abrasion. The increase in variability and absolute levels of carbonates during the cold season was demonstrated by adding carbonates to the street surface as gritting material to increase the grip on snowy surfaces. A marked increase in Na and Cl was observed in winter which may have been caused by thaw salt that is widely used in winter in Austria. This was associated with a significant increase in k, Zn, and P in the cold season that was the result of domestic space heating with wood. PM10 levels in December were 12 μ/m^3 and were higher than levels detected in July. It was established that such high levels originated from mineral oxides, wood smoke, and inorganic ionic material（s）.

Introduction:Nitrogen enrichment of coastal salt marshes can induce feedbacks that alter ecosystem-level processes including primary production and carbon *** the rising interest in coastal blue carbon,the effects of chronic nutrient enrichment on blue carbon processes have rarely been measured in the context of experimental ***,we examined the ecosystem-level effects of nitrate(NO3)enrichment on the green-house gas dynamics of a Spartina alterniflora-dominated salt *** measured CO2 and CH4 fluxes using static chambers through two growing seasons in a salt marsh that was nitrogen-enriched for 13 years and compared fluxes to those from a reference ***:We found that nitrogen enrichment increased gross primary productivity(GPP)by 7.7%and increased ecosystem respiration(Recd)by 20.8%.However,nitrogen enrichment had no discernible effect on net ecosystem exchange(NEE).Taken together,these results suggest that nitrogen-induced stimulation of Reco could transform this salt marsh from a carbon sink into a source of carbon to the atmos ***:Our results complement prior findings of nitrogen enrichment weakening soil structure and organic matter stability in tidal salt marshes,suggesting that increased nutrient inputs have the potential to alter the carbon storage function of these ecosystems through enhanced microbial respiration of previously sequestered carbon.
