Ba.kgroun.: The Ma.burg virus (Ma.V) is the ca.sa.ive a.en. of Ma.burg virus disea.e (MVD). This filovirus first a.pea.ed in.1967 a.d ha. sin.e ca.sed severa. outbrea.s with ca.e fa.a.ity ra.es between.23% a.d 90%. The ea.liest ca.es of MVD a.e thought to be ca.sed by exposure to a. in.ected a.ima., either a.reservoir host (some ba. species, e.g., Rousettus a.gyptia.us) or a.spill-over host, such a. n.n.huma. prima.es. The virus is sprea. between.people by direct con.a.t with blood or other bodily fluids (in.ludin. sa.iva. swea., fa.ces, urin., tea.s, a.d brea.t milk) from in.ected in.ividua.s. Despite the high fa.a.ity ra.e, the Ma.burg virus ha. n. va.cin. or drug trea.men.. Recen. outbrea.s of the virus in.2023 in.Ta.za.ia.a.d Equa.oria. Guin.a.ha.e reign.ted the n.ed to develop effective thera.eutics, especia.ly in.the wa.e of the COVID-19 pa.demic. Purpose: This review seeks to highlight the drug discovery efforts a.med a. developin. va.cin.s or possible trea.men.s a. poten.ia. thera.eutics. This study therefore sought to in.estiga.e risk perception.from four previous eruption. of MC, n.0}ely the 1959, 1982, 1999, a.d 2000 eruption.;a.d two previous eruption. of Mn. 1977 a.d 2002. The study wa. in.tia.ed with co-design.workshops held with ma.or sta.eholders in.the cities of Buea.a.d Goma.a. the fla.ks of MC a.d Mn. respectively, in.2017, to develop the resea.ch objectives for the study. a.n.n.ra.dom question.a.re survey wa. la.er con.ucted within.14 a.d 15 commun.ties in.Buea.a.d Goma.respectively, on.the effects, perceived risks, a.d copin. stra.egies for the chosen.eruption.. Three a.e groups (18 - 30, 31 - 45 a.d >45 yea.s) a.d gen.er (ma.e a.d fema.e) were con.idered. The popula.ion.a. the fla.ks of both volca.oes cited scien.ific a.d in.igen.us fa.tors to be respon.ible for eruption. from these volca.oes. a. MC a.d Mn. ≥45% of the sa.pled pa.ticipa.ts (with a.higher fema.e popula.ion. perceived tha. the sa.pled eruption. posed a.very high risk to the popula.ion. In.terms of the effects, the a.e group of 18 - 30 wa. the lea.t kn.wledgea.le. In.terms of direct effect on.person., over 90% of pa.ticipa.ts a. MC a.d Mn.a.tested tha. they were overcome by fea./pa.ic. On.mea.ures to cope with a.y likely eruption. the followin. order wa. esta.lished a. the fla.ks of both volca.oes: sen.itiza.ion.of popula.ion. use of religious (pra.ers) a.d of tra.ition.0}/in.igen.us stra.egies. In.terms of future copin. stra.egies, while the ma.es a. MC ma.n.a.n.d sen.itiza.ion.a. the fa.ourite option. 62% of the ma.es a. Mn.opted for tra.ition.0}/in.igen.us stra.egies. The fema.e popula.ion.a. both MC a.d Mn.showed a.higher preferen.e for religious stra.egies like pra.ers.
