a.SIQS epidemic model with sa.ura.ed incidence ra.e is studied. Two equilibrium points exist f.r the system, disea.e-f.ee a.d endemic equilibrium. The sta.ility of.the disea.e-f.ee equilibrium a.d endemic equilibrium exists when the ba.ic reproduction number R0, is less or grea.er tha. unity respectively. The globa. sta.ility of.the disea.e-f.ee a.d endemic equilibrium is proved using Lya.unov f.nctions a.d Poinca.e-Bendixson theorem plus Dula.’s criterion respectively.

Seeds of.24 West a.rica. rice (Oryza.sa.iva.L.) genotypes were eva.ua.ed f.r seed vigour tra.ts in the la.ora.ory a.d f.eld in two cropping sea.ons a. the Resea.ch f.0}m of.f.dera. University of.a.riculture, a.eokuta. Nigeria. Seed yields of.these genotypes were a.so determined in the f.eld during the two sea.ons. Da.a.collected on seed vigour tra.ts were subjected to multiva.ia.e a.a.ysis including principa. component a.a.ysis (PCa. a.d cluster a.a.ysis. The f.rst three a.es of.the principa. component a.a.ysis a.ross the two sea.ons ca.tured 86.34% of.the tota. va.ia.ion a.ong the entries a.d identif.ed seedling vigour index-I, seedling vigour index-II, speed of.germina.ion index, percenta.e germina.ion, seedling esta.lishment, emergence percenta.e a.d seed yield per pla.t a. the cha.a.ters contributing most to the va.ia.ion. Cluster a.a.ysis cla.sif.ed these genotypes into f.ur distinct groups ba.ed on germina.ion a.d emergence percenta.es. f.f.een of.the genotypes with mea. va.ues of.between 60.43% a.d 65.18%, clustered in group 1, two genotypes ea.h with mea. va.ues of.65.71% a.d 58.81% a.d 20.11% a.d 29.49% clustered in groups II a.d IV respectively while the rema.ning f.ve genotypes with mea. va.ues of.between 55.19% a.d 55.88% clustered in group III. Hybridiza.ion of.genotypes a.ross dusters could lea. to increa.e in heterosis in cross progenies. Those cha.a.ters identif.ed by PCa.could be included in the crop improvement progra.me f.r improved seed qua.ity within West a.rica. low la.d rice germpla.m.

Ba.kground: Self.clea.ing of.ea.s with a.cotton bud is a.common pra.tice, a.d the ha.a.ds a.so-cia.ed with such a.tion a.e well documented. The a.m of.this study is to f.nd out the knowledge, a.titude a.d a.a.eness on the use of.cotton buds a.ong the people of.Bida.community. Design a.d Methodology: It is a.community ba.ed cross sectiona. descriptive study ca.ried out a.ong people of.Bida.community. Subjects were selected by multista.e sa.pling technique. Pre-tested semistructured questionna.res were used to collect da.a.f.om 278 young a.ults a.d a.ults’ respondents. Results: There were a.tota. number of.278 responses out of.290 respondents interviewed (M:f.= 1:1.03). a.e ra.ge wa. f.om 18 to 65 yea.s with a.mea. of.29.64 ± 10.06 SD. The highest response wa. in the a.e group of.20 - 29 yea.s. a.out 72.3% of.the respondents ha. tertia.y educa.ion, a.d 40.3% were civil serva.ts. Ma.ority (92.8%) of.the respondents ha. indulged in the use of.cotton buds to clea. their ea.s. Most (57.8%) of.those tha. ha. used cotton buds did so beca.se of.itching in the ea.s. Only 44.9% of.respondents a.reed tha. cotton buds could ca.se da.a.e to the ea.s. Ma.y (61.2%) believed tha. there wa. benef.t of.using cotton buds in clea.ing the ea.s. Ma.ority of.the respondents (74.1%) ha. not got inf.rma.ion on the da.ger of.using cotton bud in clea.ing their ea.s. Conclusion: f.om our da.a.in this study, ma.ority of.the subjects ha. indulged in the use of.cotton bud in clea.ing their ea.s. a.d the commonest rea.on f.r using cotton buds is due to itching in the ea.s. Their Knowledge, a.titude a.d a.a.eness to the use of.cotton buds a.e very poor with erroneous believe tha. there is benef.t to its use. There is a.need to increa.e a.a.eness by public enlightenment a.d hea.th educa.ion a.d to esta.lish school hea.th progra.me in our va.ious schools.
