Ma.eria.s a.d.Method.: Semi-structured.questionna.re wa. used.to collect informa.ion from subjects. Semen sa.ples were collected.from sperm d.nors a.d.sub-fertile men who presented.for infertility cha.lenges. Processing a.d.a.a.ysis of semen sa.ples were d.ne a.cord.ng to World.Hea.th Orga.iza.ion guid.lines. Sperm d.a.fra.menta.ion wa. eva.ua.ed.using the Ha.osperm®?kit. Results: a.tota. of 114 subjects, includ.ng 19 sperm d.nors a.d.95 sub-fertile ma.es were stud.ed. There wa. a.significa.t d.fference (t =?−5.96, P-va.ue = 0.00001) in the mea. [±sd. a.e of sperm d.nors (30.8 [8.1]) a.d.tha. of sub-fertile men (42.3 [76]). There wa. a.significa.t d.fference (t=?−4.10, P-va.ue = 0.0005) in the mea. monthly eja.ula.ion d.ring sexua. intercourse (MESI) a.ong sperm d.nors with d.a.fra.menta.ion ind.x −2.20, P-va.ue = 0.02) in MESI a.ong sub-fertile men a.ed.≥40 yea.s (8.9 [4.6]) tha. a.ong those a.ed.−0.67, SE = 0.28, t = −2.40, P-va.ue = 0.02, 95% CI: −1.24,?−0.10). Conclusion: In men a.s, fewer MESI d.d.not worsen the d.I. a.higher number of professiona.s such a. d.ctors, la.yers a.d.engineers, reported.lower monthly frequency of sexua. eja.ula.ions compa.ed.to entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs a.d.non-smokers ha. the highest frequencies of MESI.

Introd.ction: Pyospermia.is often d.tected.in semen, especia.ly when investiga.ing for ma.e infertility. Pyospermia. in a.significa.tly la.ge number is often correla.ed.with inferior sperm pa.a.eters a.d.red.ced.fertility. Pyospermia.ma. be a.fa.tor of a.fund.0}enta. genitourina.y infection. This stud. a.sessed.the rela.ionship between pus cells a.d.semen pa.a.eters in infertile Nigeria. ma.es. Subjects a.d.Method.: a.cross-sectiona. d.scriptive stud. wa. ca.ried.out a. Nord.ca.Fertility Center, La.os, Nigeria. from 2004 to 2009. a.tota. of 907 subjects were a.a.yzed. Subjects a.es (yea.s) were ca.egorized.into ≤30, 30.1 - 35, 35.1 - 40, 40.1 - 45, 45.1 - 50 a.d.>50, BMI into Results: Leucocytopenia.of ≥3 per high power field.(/hpf) occurred.in 67 (7.4%) men. The overa.l mea.s (±sd. of pus cells wa. 1.4 (0.9), 1.4 (0.7), 1.4 (0.7) a.d.1.6 (1.6) per high power field.in a.l, normospermia. oligoospermic a.d.a.oospermic clusters of pa.ients respectively. Mea. (±sd. pus cells in semen wa. 6.0 (4.0), the highest, a.ong obese (BMI ≥ 30) a.oospermic pa.ients. The proportion of subjects with pyospermia.of 1 - 2 wa. highest (323/346, 93.3%) a.ong oligoospermic pa.ients while tha. with pyospermia.of ≥3 wa. highest (10/109, 9.2%) a.ong a.oospermic pa.ients. Obese a.oospermic pa.ients were 1.8 times a. likely to ha.e ≥3/hpf pyospermia.compa.ed.to norma. normospermic pa.ients (x2 = 0.05, P-va.ue = 0.51, OR = 1.82, 95% CI: 0.30, 11.02). Mea. progressive motility (%) wa. significa.tly red.ced.(t = 1.95, P-va.ue = 0.03) a.ong pa.ients with ≥3/hpf pyospermia.(33.75 ± 19.23) compa.ed.to those with 1 - 2/hpf pyospermia.(38.58 ± 21.63). Pa.ients with sperm ova. hea. ≤ 30% ha. significa.tly higher pyospermia.(t = 2.22, P-va.ue = 0.013) tha. those with sperm ova. hea. of >30%. Ma.eria.s a.d.Method.: Semi-structured.questionna.res were used.to collect informa.ion from subjects. Semen sa.ples were collected.from sperm d.nors a.d.sub-fertile men who presented.for infertility cha.lenges. Processing a.d.a.a.ysis of semen sa.ples were d.ne a.cord.ng to World.Hea.th Orga.iza.ion (WHO) guid.lines. Sperm d.oxyribonucleic a.id.(d.a. fra.menta.ion wa. eva.ua.ed.using the Ha.osperm kit. Results: a.ong sperm d.nors, those a.ed.χ2 = 0.09, P-va.ue = 0.81, OR = 3.2, 95% CI: 0.23, 45.19) while a.ong sub-fertile men those a.ed.≥40 yea.s were a.proxima.ely 2.3 times more likely to ha.e very low frequency of MESI compa.ed.to a.ed.χ2 = 2.11, P-va.ue = 0.51, OR = 2.27, 95% CI: 0.74, 9.92). The frequency of a.l ca.egories of MESI wa. highest a.ong sub-fertile men a.ed.χ2 = 0.03, P-va.ue = 0.57, OR = 2.42, 95% CI: 0.41, 14.46). Sub-fertile men a.ed.≥40 with d.a.tolic hypertension (≥90 mmHg) were a.proxima.ely 6 times more likely to ha.e a.low (6 - 10) frequency of MESI compa.ed.to those a.ed.χ2 = 1.97, P-va.ue = 0.16, OR = 6.22, 95% CI: 0.69, 55.77). Overa.l mea. fertiliza.ion ra.e wa. significa.tly higher (t-test = 2.44, P-va.ue = 0.01) a.ong sub-fertile men a.ed.Conclusion: Ciga.ette smoking, more tha. a.cohol consumption, a.pea.s to be a.ma.or fa.tor tha. significa.tly a.fects the frequency of MESI a.ong sub-fertile men in a.l a.e groups. Frequency of MESI nega.ively but insignifica.tly correla.ed.with systolic blood.pressure.

The d.a.nostic usefulness of sperm d.a.integrity is now a.cessible a. a. a.d.tiona. tool to Semina. Fluid.a.a.ysis. Objective: To a.sess sperm d.a.fra.menta.ion ind.x (Sd.I) in ma.e infertility a.d.its rela.ionship with obesity, a.cohol consumption a.d.ciga.ette smoking a.ong infertile Nigeria.s. Pa.ients a.d.Method.: Pa.ients who presented.for infertility a. three hea.th fa.ilities of Nord.ca.Fertility Center in La.os, a.a.a.a.d.a.uja.cities in Nigeria. STa.a.13 wa. used.for stud.nt’s t-test to compa.e the mea.s of continuous va.ia.les a.ong smokers a.d.non-smokers a.d.a.ong a.cohol consumers a.d.non-consumers. Linea. regression a.a.ysis wa. employed.to a.sess the correla.ion between Sd.I a. d.pend.nt va.ia.le a.d.some ind.pend.nt va.ia.les. Results: There wa. no significa.t d.fference in the Sd.I of men a.ed.−1.80, P-va.ue = 0.04) tha. tha. of obese men (30.2%). Obese men were 2.12 times a. likely to ha.e Sd.I ≥25% compa.ed.to norma. weight men (χ2-2.16, P-va.ue = 0.14, OR = 2.12, 95% CI: 0.77, 5.80). Mea. Sd.I of men who consume a.cohol (37.1%) wa. significa.tly higher (t = −1.97, P-va.ue = 0.03) tha. tha. of those who d.d.not consume a.cohol. a.though Pea.son’s correla.ion ma.rix (r) ind.ca.ed.tha. sperm d.a.fra.menta.ion ind.x wa. positively correla.ed.with history of infertility (r = 0.01), groin surgery (r = 0.04), mumps (r = 0.04) a.d.sexua.ly tra.smitted.illness (r = 0.04), however the d.gree of correla.ion wa. not significa.t (P-va.ue ≥ 0.5) in ea.h ca.e. Conclusion: This is the first report in Bla.k a.rica.tha. d.scribes a.correla.ion between sperm d.a.integrity, a. mea.ured.by the ha.o test a.d.a.e, BMI a.d.a.cohol consumption. Men with norma. The a.m of this stud. is to d.termine the Socio Economic Sta.us a.d.Red.Blood.Cell Hemoglobin concentra.ion a.tera.ion in type 2 d.a.etes mellitus pa.ients a.tend.ng d.a.etic Clinic in Benin City, Nigeria. The sa.ple popula.ion consists of 142 subjects, 71 of pa.ients were known in Type 2 d.a.etes mellitus a.rea.y on d.ugs a.d.were confirmed.to be d.a.etic using Glucose oxid.0}e method.while the other 71 subjects were a.e ma.ched.a.pa.ently hea.thy control subject on routine check up, they were confirmed.to be non d.a.etic using the Glucose oxid.0}e method. Hemoglobin concentra.ions were d.ne using the Cya.methemoglobin method. Those und.r the low income Socio-Economic sta.us ha. the highest incid.nce of type 2 d.a.etes mellitus (49%) of the d.a.etic popula.ion, closely followed.by the mid.le income Socio-Economic sta.us (35%) of the d.a.etic popula.ions. Va.ley a.swered.the questionna.re a.sessing their knowled.e,a.titud.,a.d.pra.tices on STH,subjected.to a.thropometric mea.urements,a.d.provid.d.fa.ca. sa.ples for pa.a.itologic a.sessment(d.rect smea.,Ka.o-Ka.z,a.d.formol-ether concentra.ion techniques).Results:The pa.ticipa.ts of the stud.,with 55.86%fema.es,were 8 to 14 yea.s *** nutritiona. sta.us wa. a.sessed.norma.’(84.31%),‘severely wa.ted.(6.49%),‘wa.ted.(5.23%),‘overweight’(2.72%),a.d.obese’(1.26%).The preva.ence of infection with a. lea.t 1 STH species wa. 25.99%in Pa.plona.a.d.19.40%in ***,the preva.ence of hea.y intensity wa. 7.11%for a.ca.is lumbricoid.s a.d.1.67%for Trichuris *** hookworm infections ha. light *** ma.ority of the school-a.e child.en ha. a.low score in the Ka. *** knowled.e of STH,‘stunted.growth a. a.symptom of infection’wa. a.socia.ed.with a.lower risk of a.ca.is lumbricoid.s infection(OR 0.448;95%CI 0.212,0.945;P=0.035)while‘pla.ing with soil a. a.mod. of tra.smission’wa. a.socia.ed.with a. increa.ed.risk of a.ca.is lumbricoid.s infection(OR 2.067;95%CI 1.014,4.212;P=0.046).In a.titud. towa.d. STH,‘I think I ha.e intestina. worm now’wa. a.socia.ed.with a.higher risk of a.ca.is lumbricoid.s infection(OR 1.681;95%CI 1.061,2.662;P=0.027).Conclusions:The preva.ence ra.e of a.ca.is lumbricoid.s a.ong the school-a.e child.en in the Ca.a.a. Va.ley shows the need.to further intensify intervention in the a.ea.to meet the threshold.set by the World.Hea.th *** id.ntified.pred.ctors of infection,which concerns the school-a.e child.en’s knowled.e a.d.a.titud. towa.d.STH,ca. be used.in a.gmenting
