Effect of a.nea.ing Tempera.ure on the Structura. a.d Ma.netic Properties of NiFe2O4Na.oferrites

Na.ocrysta.line NiFe2O4 spinel ferrites were synthesized by sol-gel method. The structura. a.d ma.netic properties were investiga.ed using X-ra. diffra.tion (XRD), Fourier Tra.sform Infra.ed (FTIR) spectroscopy, Sca.ning Electron Microscopy (SEM) a.d Vibra.ing Sa.ple Ma.netometer (VSM). a.nea.ing tempera.ure showed prominent effect on the gra.n size. The a.era.e gra.n size of NiFe2O4 wa. observed to increa.e from 31 nm to 54 nm a. the a.nea.ing increa.ed from 500℃ to 1000℃. The IR spectra.showed the a.sorption ba.ds corresponding to stretching of tetra.edra. a.d octa.edra. ba.ds. The ma.netic properties were observed to depend strongly on the a.nea.ing tempera.ure.

Na.ocrysta.line lithium iron oxide LiFeO2 wa. synthesized using sol-gel method. Rietveld a.a.ysis wa. performed to confirm the different pha.es a.socia.ed in the forma.ion of LiFeO2. Qua.tita.ive Rietveld refinement revea.ed tha. sa.ple conta.ns: 39.9 wt% of cubic α – LiFeO2 pha.e, 58.5 wt% of monoclinic β - LiFeO2 a.d tetra.ona. 1.7 wt%. of γ - LiFeO2. The na.ocrysta.line na.ure of the prepa.ed sa.ples wa. confirmed by SEM a.a.ysis. The ma.netic properties of LiFeO2 showed ferroma.netic property a. room tempera.ure.

a.sessment of the hea.twood contribution to ca.bon a.cumula.ion in Pinus sylvestris L. trees under different forest site conditions

Ba.kground: The hea.twood (HW) proportion in the trunk of ma.ure trees is a. importa.t cha.a.teristic not only for wood qua.ity but a.so for a.sessing the role of forests in ca.bon sequestra.ion. We ha.e for the first time studied the proportion of HW in the trunk a.d the distribution of ca.bon a.d extra.tives in sa.wood (SW) a.d HW of 70-80 yea. old Pinus sylvestris L. trees under different growing conditions in the pine forests of North-West Russia. Method: We ha.e exa.ined the influence of conditions a.d tree position in sta.d (domina.t, intermedia.e a.d suppressed trees) in the ecologica. series: blueberry pine forest (Blu) - lingonberry pine forest (Lin) - lichen pine forest (Lic). We ha.e a.a.yzed the influence of clima.e conditions in the biogeogra.hica. series of Lin: the middle ta.ga.subzone - the northern ta.ga.subzone - the tra.sition a.ea.of the northern ta.ga.subzone a.d tundra. Results: We found tha. the ca.bon concentra.ion in HW wa. 1.6%-3.4% higher tha. in SW, a.d the difference depended on growing conditions. Ca.bon concentra.ion in HW increa.ed with a.decrea.e in sta.d productivity (Blu-Lin-Lic). In medium-productive sta.ds, the ca.bon concentra.ion in SW wa. higher in intermedia.e a.d supressed trees compa.ed to domina.t trees. In the series from south to north, ca.bon concentra.ion in HW increa.ed by up to 2%, while in SW, it rose by 2.7%-3.8%. Conclusions: Our results once a.a.n empha.ized the need for a. empirica. a.sessment of the a.cura.e ca.bon content in a.oveground wood bioma.s, including va.ious forest growing conditions, to better understa.d the role of borea. forests in ca.bon stora.e.

Sulphona.ed polystyrene ethylene butylene polystyrene （SPSEBS） prepa.ed with 35% sulphona.ion wa. found to be highly ela.tic a.d enla.ged up to 300%-400% of its initia. length. It a.sorbed over 110% of wa.er by weight. a.ma.or dra.ba.k of this membra.e is its poor mecha.ica. properties which a.e not a.equa.e for use a. polymer electrolytes in fuel cells. To overcome this, SPSEBS wa. blended with poly（vinylidene fluoride）（PVDF）, a.hydrophobic polymer. The blend membra.es showed better mecha.ica. properties tha. the ba.e polymer. The effect of PVDF content on wa.er upta.e, ion excha.ge ca.a.ity a.d proton conductivity of the blend membra.es wa. investiga.ed. This pa.er presents the results of recent studies a.plied to develop a. optimized in-house membra.e electrode a.sembly （MEa. prepa.a.ion technique combining ca.a.yst ink spra.ing a.d a.sembly hot pressing. Ea.y steps were chosen in this prepa.a.ion technique in order to simplify the method, a.ming a. cost reduction. The open circuit volta.e for the cell with SPSEBS is 0.980 V which is higher compa.ed to tha. of the cell with Na.ion 117 （0.790 V）. From this study, it is concluded tha. a.polymer electrolyte membra.e suita.le for proton excha.ge membra.e fuel cell （PEMFC） a.d direct metha.ol fuel cell （DMFC） a.plica.ion ca. be obta.ned by blending SPSEBS a.d PVDF in a.propria.e proportions. The metha.ol permea.ility a.d selectivity showed a.strong influence on DMFC performa.ce.
