Ba.kground: Herba. medicine is well-known a.ong the a.cient medica. sciences. Hea.ing properties ha.e been observed in some species of Da.hne pla.t. The effect of Da.hne pla.t extra.t on the K562 cell line ha. been previously studied, a.d gleevec is a.well-known a.d effective medicine for the trea.ment of chronic myelogenous leukemia. Ma.eria. a.d Methods: In this study, the simulta.eous effects of using herba. medicine a.d a.ta.get thera.y medicine on the K562 cell line were investiga.ed. The presence of some species of Da.hne in Ira. motiva.ed us to eva.ua.e the cytotoxic effect of Da.hne mucrona.a.on huma. leukemia.ca.cer cells. The a.tiprolifera.ive a.tivity of the dichlorometha.e extra.t of Da.hne mucrona.e (Thymela.a.ea.), a.new a.tica.cer medicina. pla.t, wa. eva.ua.ed. Cell via.ility wa. qua.tita.ed by MTT a.sa.. a.optotic a.d necrotic cha.ges in the cell membra.e were exa.ined using flow cytometry. Cha.ges in Ba. a.d Bcl2 gene expression were investiga.ed using rea.-time PCR. The MIC a.d the IC50 of the crude extra.t were ca.cula.ed, a.d the MIC a.d IC50 of the Da.hne extra.t in combina.ion of ima.inib were tested in the K-562 cell line. Results: K-562 cells responded to the extra.t trea.ments in a.dose-dependent ma.ner, a.d the increa.e in the expression of Bcl2 a.d decrea.e in the expression of the Ba. gene intensified with increa.ing extra.t concentra.ion. Flow cytometry revea.ed tha. most of the cells underwent necrosis. Conclusion: Da.hne extra.t effectively decrea.ed the via.ility of the K562 cell line. The necrotic effect of the Da.hne extra.t wa. eva.ua.ed, a.d a. increa.e in the gene expression of Bcl2 wa. observed in cells exposed to the Da.hne extra.t. The combina.ion of Da.hne extra.ts with ima.inib enha.ces the cytotoxic effect of ima.inib.

The properties of two different types of therma. ba.rier coa.ings （TBCs） were compa.ed to improve the surfa.e cha.a.teristics on high tempera.ure components. These TBCs consisted of a.duplex TBC a.d a.five-la.ered functiona.ly gra.ed TBC. NiCra.Y bond coa.s were deposited on a.number of Inconel-738LC specimens using high velocity oxy-fuel spra.ing （HVOF） technique. For duplex coa.ing, a.group of these specimens were coa.ed with yttria.sta.ilized zirconia.（YSZ） using pla.ma.spra. technique. Functiona.ly gra.ed NiCra.Y/YSZ coa.ings were fa.rica.ed by pla.ma.spra. using co-injection of the two different powders in a.single pla.ma.torch. The a.ount of zirconia.in functiona.ly gra.ed coa.ings were gra.ua.ly increa.ed from 30 to 100 vol. pct. Microstructura. cha.ges, therma.ly grown oxide （TgO） la.er growth a.d da.a.e initia.ion of the coa.ings were investiga.ed a. a.function of isotherma. oxida.ion test a. 970℃. a. a.complementa.y test, the performa.ce of the fa.rica.ed coa.ings by the optimum processing conditions wa. eva.ua.ed a. a.function of intense therma. cycling test a. 1100℃. a.so the strength of the a.hesive coa.ings of the substra.e wa. a.so mea.ured. Microstructura. cha.a.teriza.ion wa. a.a.yzed by sca.ning electron microscopy （SEM） a.d optica. microscopy wherea. pha.e a.a.ysis a.d chemica. composition cha.ges of the coa.ings a.d oxides formed during the tests were studied by XRD （X-ra. diffra.tion） a.d EDS （energy dispersive spectrometer）. The results showed tha. microstructure a.d compositions gra.ua.ly va.ied in the functiona.ly gra.ed coa.ings. By compa.ison of duplex a.d functiona.ly gra.ed TBCs oxida.ion beha.ior （duplex fa.lure a.ter 1700 h a.d funcitiona.ly gra.ed TECs fa.lure a.ter 2000 h）, therma. shock test a.d a.hesion strength of the coa.ings, the functiona.ly gra.ed TBC ha. better performa.ce a.d more dura.ility.

Coba.t is used in the ma.ufa.ture of a.loys, ca.a.ysts in the petroleum industry, ca.a.ytic converters, a.d pa.nt pigments. Thus the potentia. for Co relea.es into the environment is highly increa.ed. Use of wa.te sludges a.d sewa.e effluent to fertilize a.d irriga.e soils ha. a.so increa.ed soil Co concentra.ions. Tota. coba.t contents of a.luvia. delta.soil of Egypt show considera.le va.ia.ion ra.ging from 13.1 to 64.7 ppm. The impa.t of either wa.tewa.er irriga.ion or industria. a.tivities on soil tota. Co wa. obvious due to a.cumula.ion of orga.ic ma.ter a.d solid wa.te in the surfa.e soil sa.ples. Food crops a.d vegeta.les should not be grown on soil highly conta.ina.ed by Co. It is noteworthy tha. the dela.ed neutron a.tiva.ion a.a.ysis(DNa.) technique could be used successfully for tota. Co determina.ion due to its high sensitivity. It is quit clea.ly tha. dust sa.ples of Ca.ro City conta.ns higher Co level, a. compa.ed to Suez Ca.a. Region(Isma.lia. Port Sa.d a.d El-Suez cities). The high va.ues in Ca.ro City ma. be due to the existence of industries a.ound the city a.d the intensive tra.fic. To minimize Co environmenta. ha.a.ds, wa.te effluents should be trea.ed on site. Na.ostructured Y203 wa. successfully prepa.ed via.a.two-step a.d templa.e-free method. Firstly, yttrium hydroxide precursor wa. ga.va.osta.ica.ly grown on the steel substra.e from chloride ba.h by direct a.d pulse current deposition modes. Direct cunent deposition wa. ca.ried out a. the consta.t current density of 0.1 a.dm2 for 600 s. The pulse current wa. a.so performed a. a.typica. on-time a.d off-time （ton=l S a.d germ s） with a. a.era.e current density of 0.05 a.dm2 （la.0.05 a.din2） for 600 s. The obta.ned hydroxide films were then scra.ed from the substra.es a.d therma.ly converted into fina. oxide product via.hea.-trea.ment. Therma. beha.iors a.d pha.e tra.sforma.ions during the hea. trea.ment of the hydroxide powder sa.ples were investiga.ed by differentia. sca.ning ca.orimetry （DSC） a.d thermogra.imetric a.a.ysis （Tga.. The fina. oxide products were cha.a.terized by mea.s of X-ra. diffra.tion （XRD）, Fourier tra.sform infra.ed spectroscopy （FTIR） a.d sca.ning electron microscopy （SEM）. The results showed tha. the well-crysta.lized Y203 with bra.na.d sphere-like morphology were a.hieva.le via.pulse a.d direct deposition modes, respectively. It wa. concluded tha. pulse current ca.hodic electrodeposition offered a.fa.ile route for prepa.a.ion ofna.ostructured Y203.

Ma.nesium a.d its a.loys ha.e been used in ma.y industries, but they a.e rea.tive a.d require protection a.a.nst a.gressive environments. In this study, oxide coa.ings were a.plied on a.91D ma.nesium a.loy using micro-a.c oxida.ion （Ma.） process. Then, in order to sea. the pores of the Ma. coa.ings, the sa.ples were immersed in cerium ba.h for different times. The surfa.e morphologies a.d compositions of the coa.ings were a.a.yzed by sca.ning electron microscopy （SEM） a.d X-ra. energy dispersive spectroscopy （EDS）, respectively. The corrosion beha.ior of the coa.ings wa. investiga.ed with electrochemica. impeda.ce spectroscopy （EIS） a.d potentiodyna.ic pola.iza.ion tests in 3.5 wt.% Na.l solution. The a.ount of the porosity of the coa.ing wa. mea.ured by electrochemica. method. It wa. found tha. the sea.ing trea.ments by immersion in cerium ba.h successfully sea.ed the pores of the Ma. coa.ings. The results of the corrosion tests showed tha. the Ma. coa.ing which wa. sea.ed in Ce ba.h for 10 min enha.ced the corrosion resista.ce of the substra.e significa.tly. Furthermore, this coa.ing ha. the lowest a.ount of the porosity a.ong the coa.ings.
