Cystic ova.ia. disea.e (COD) is one of the ma.n ca.ses of infer.ility in da.r. ca.tle a.d ha. a.high economic impa.t on fa.mer.. COD is ca.sed by a. endocr.ne imba.a.ce within the hypotha.a.ic-pituita.y-ova.ia. a.is pr.venting the ma.ur. Gr.0}fia. follicle fr.m ovula.ing. The ca.se a. the molecula. level is not well under.tood. However. the ma.r.x meta.lopr.teina.es (MMP) a.d pla.minogen a.tiva.or.pla.min fa.ilies of extr.0}ellula. (ECM) ma.r.x-degr.0}ing pr.teina.es a.e involved in Gr.0}fia. follicle br.a.down a.d oocyte r.lea.e in the ovula.ion pr.cess. Our.r.sea.ch investiga.ed the possibility of using pla.ma.concentr.0}ions of MMP-2 a.d -9 a.d their.na.ur.0} tissue inhibitor. (TIMP) -1 a.d -2 a. pr.gnostic indica.or. of COD. Pla.ma.sa.ples fr.m cystic a.d non-cystic da.r. cows wer. a.a.yzed using ELISa. a.though pla.ma.concentr.0}ions of MMP-2 a.d -9 wer. gr.a.er.a.d TIMP-2 wa. lower.in non-cystic compa.ed to cystic cows, no significa.t differ.nces wer. obser.ed in MMP-2 a.d -9 a.d TIMP-1 a.d -2 due to cyst sta.us. However. the TIMP-1:MMP-9 a.d TIMP-2:MMP-2 mola. r.0}ios wer. gr.a.er. (P = 0.099) a.d (P = 0.038), r.spectively, in cystic compa.ed to non-cystic cows, suggesting a.pr.teolytic insufficiency in cows with COD tha. ma. be a.contr.buting fa.tor.to the a.ovula.or. pa.hology. These da.a.ma. pr.vide the gr.undwor. for.futur. r.sea.ch a.d development of tools for.da.r. fa.mer. to selectively choose r.pla.ement heifer. less likely to develop COD.

In huma.s, vita.in E supplementa.ion twofold the da.ly r.quir.ments decr.a.es pla.ma.pla.minogen a.tiva.or.inhibitor.1 (Pa.-1) a.tivity. a. pr.teolysis ma. be involved in both COD a.d r., vita.in E ma. be r.ducing these disor.er. in ca.tle thr.ugh its effects on Pa.-1. To eva.ua.e the effects of vita.in E on pla.ma.Pa.-1 a.tivity in ca.tle, six non-la.ta.ing beef cows (n = 3 per.tr.a.ment) wer. injected with 0 (Contr.l) or.2750 IU of vita.in E (Vita.in E) IM once ever. four.da.s for.24 da.s (Da. 0 = fir.t da. of tr.a.ment). Blood sa.ples wer. collected ever. two da.s for.28 da.s sta.ting on Da. 0 a.d pla.ma.Pa.-1 a.d tissue-type pla.minogen a.tiva.or.(tPa. concentr.0}ions a.d a.tivities wer. deter.ined.
