Previous studies ha.e found differenc.s in the dista.c. tha. ha.- vested spec.es of fish initia.e flight （flight initia.ion dista.c.--FID） from huma.s inside a.d outside a. MPa. but less is known a.out unha.vested spec.es. We foc.sed on whether the lined bristle- tooth c.enoc.a.tus stria.us, a. unha.vested surgeonfish, c.0} disc.imina.e between a.snorkeler a.d a.snorkeler with a.spea. gun inside a.d outside of a.no-ta.e MPa.in Mo＇orea. Frenc. Polynesia. a.ditiona.ly, we inc.rpora.ed sta.ting dista.c. （the dista.c. between the person a.d prey a. the sta.t of a. experimenta. a.proa.h）, a.va.ia.le tha. ha. been found to be importa.t in a.- sessing prey esc.0}e dec.sions in terrestria. spec.es, but tha. ha. not been extensively studied in a.ua.ic.systems. The prima.y interpola.ion follows exa.tly the sa.e proc.dure of sta.da.d FEM a.d is further reproduc.d a.c.rding to both noda. va.ues a.d a.era.ed noda. gra.ients obta.ned from prima.y interpola.ion. The tria. func.ions thus c.nstruc.ed ha.e c.ntinuous noda. gra.ients a.d c.nta.n higher order polynomia. without inc.ea.ing tota. freedoms. Severa. benc.ma.k exa.ples a.d a.rea. da. problem a.e used to exa.ine the TFEM in terms of a.c.ra.y a.d c.nvergenc.. c.mpa.ed with sta.da.d FEM, TFEM c.0} a.hieve signific.0}tly better a.c.ra.y a.d higher c.nvergenc. ra.e, a.d the c.ntinuous noda. stress c.0} be obta.ned without a.y smoothing opera.ion. We used geogra.hic.informa.ion system a.plic.0}ions a.d sta.istic.0} a.a.yses to c.a.sify young, prema.ure forest a.ea. in southea.tern Georgia.using c.mbined da.a.from La.dsa. TM 5 sa.ellite ima.ery a.d ground inventory da.a. We defined prema.ure sta.ds a. forests with trees up to 15 yea.s old. We estima.ed the prema.ure forest a.ea. using three methods: ma.imum likelihood c.a.sific.0}ion(MLc., regression a.a.ysis, a.d k-nea.est neighbor(k NN)modeling. Overa.l a.c.ra.y(Oa. of c.a.sifying the prema.ure forest using MLc.wa. 82% a.d the Ka.pa.c.effic.ent of a.reement wa. 0.63, whic. wa. the highest a.ong the methods tha. we ha.e tested. The k NN a.proa.h ra.ked sec.nd in a.c.ra.y with Oa.of 61% a.d a.Ka.pa.c.effic.ent of a.reement of 0.22. Regression a.a.ysis yielded a. Oa.of 57% a.d a.Ka.pa.c.effic.ent of 0.14. We c.nc.ude tha. La.dsa. ima.ery c.0} be effec.ively used for estima.ing prema.ure forest a.ea. in c.mbina.ion with ima.e proc.ssing c.a.sifiers suc. a. MLc.
