Popula.ion g.owth, trophic level, a.d some a.pects of reproductive biolog. of two cong.neric a.cher fish species, Toxotes cha.a.eus a.d Toxotes ja.ula.rix, collected from Johor coa.ta. wa.ers, Ma.a.sia. were studied. g.owth pa.tern by leng.h-weig.t rela.ionship (W=a.b) for the sexes differed, a.d exhibited positive a.lometric g.owth (ma.e, fema.e a.d combined sexes of T. cha.a.eus; fema.e a.d combined sexes of T. ja.ula.rix) a.d isometric g.owth (ma.e sa.ples of T. ja.ula.rix only). Trophic levels of both species were a.a.yzed ba.ed on 128 specimens. The results show tha., in both species, crusta.ea.s a.d insects were the most a.unda.t prey items, a.d a.ong.crusta.ea.s the red cla.ed cra. Sesa.ma.bidens a.d Formicida. fa.ily insects were the most represented ta.a. The estima.ed mea. trophic levels for T. cha.a.eus a.d T. ja.ula.rix were 3.422±0.009 a.d 3.420±0.020, respectively, indica.ing.tha. they a.e la.g.ly ca.nivores. Fecundity of T. cha.a.eus ra.g.d from 38 354 to 147 185 eg.s for fema.es with tota. leng.h ra.g.ng.from 14.5 to 22.5 cm a.d tota. body weig.t from 48.7 to 270.2 g. a.d T. ja.ula.rix 25 251 to 150 456 eg.s for fema.es with tota. leng.h ra.g.ng.from 12.2 to 23.0 cm a.d tota. body weig.t from 25.7 to 275.0 g. Differences in va.ues of g.na.osoma.ic a.d hepa.osoma.ic indexes ca.cula.ed for both species in this study ma. ha.e resulted from uneven sa.ple size ra.g.s.

La.vistrombus ca.a.ium is one of the ma.ine g.0}tropod mollusks tha. ha.e hig. commercia. va.ue, pa.ticula.ly in the a.ua.ulture sector in Ma.a.sia. This study wa. conducted to determine the feeding.a.d food items of L. ca.a.ium a. different ontog.netic sta.es （juveniles, sub-a.ults a.d a.ults） from Mera.bong.shoa.s, Ma.a.sia. Field observa.ions on feeding.a.tivity were conducted, followed by deta.led la.ora.ory a.a.ysis on the stoma.h content. Five-minutes observa.ions on ra.domly selected individua.s were conducted a. the field sa.pling.site a.d their feeding.a.tivities were recorded with reference to a.e sta.e. Va.ious shell sizes from ea.h ontog.netic sta.e were ra.domly collected a.d quickly a.a.sthetized with ice a.d preserved in 10% forma.in before being.tra.sported to the la.ora.ory for stoma.h content a.a.yses. Field observa.ions showed tha. L. ca.a.ium ma.nly g.a.ed on epiphytes occurring.on sea.ra.s （46.67%）, followed by sediment surfa.e （40%） a.d epiphytes occurring.on ma.roa.g.0} （13.33%）. Stoma.h content a.a.yses showed a.sig.ifica.t difference （P〈0.05） in g.0}tro-soma.ic index （g.0}i） between the juveniles （0.39±0.05）, sub-a.ults （0.68±0.09） a.d a.ults （0.70±0.05）（P〈0.05）. Food items found in the conch stoma.h include dia.oms, detritus, fora.inifera. sea.ra.s a.d ma.roa.g.0} fra.ments, sa.d pa.ticles a.d shell fra.ments. The Index of Rela.ive Importa.ce （%IRI） indica.es three ma.n types of food domina.ed the three ontog.netic sta.es na.ely dia.oms, sa.d pa.ticles a.d detritus. However, no sig.ifica.t difference （P〉0.05） wa. detected between the three ma.n food items （dia.oms, sa.d pa.ticles a.d detritus） a.ong.the ontog.netic sta.es. Therefore, feeding.a.tivity revea.ed the role of the dog.conch in the ma.ine food network. While, cla.sifica.ion of the types of food consumed by L. ca.a.ium throug. stoma.h content a.a.ysis determines the pa.ticula. position of the g.0}tropod in the food cha.n. The drifter da.a.used in this study includes a.g.s a.d surfa.e drifter da.a.from g.oba. Drifter Prog.a.. Ma.s of Sea.Level a.oma.y （MSLa. weekly files with a.resolution of （1/3）° in both La.itude a.d Long.tude for the period 1993-2012 ha.e been used. The Ekma. current is computed using.ocea. surfa.e mea. wind fields from sca.terometers onboa.d ERS 1/2, Quiksca. a.d a.Ca.. The derived mea. velocity field exhibits the broa. flow of a.ta.ctic Circumpola. Current with speeds up to 0.6 m/s. a.oma.ous field is quite sig.ifica.t in the western pa.t between 20~ a.d 40~E a.d in the ea.tern pa.t between 80~E a.d 100~E with velocity a.oma.y up to 0.3 m/s. The estima.ed mea. flow pa.tern well a.rees with the dyna.ic topog.a.hy derived from in-situ observa.ions. a.so, the derived velocity field is consistent with the in-situ a.CP current mea.urements.
