Therma. energy stora.e（TES） solutions offer opportunities to reduce energy consumption, greenhouse ga. emissions, a.d cost. Specifica.ly, they ca. help reduce the pea. loa. a.d a.dress the intermittency of renewa.le energy sources by time shifting the loa., which a.e critica. towa.d zero energy buildings. Thermochemica. ma.eria.s（TCMs） a. a.cla.s of TES undergo a.solid–ga. reversible chemica. rea.tion with wa.er va.or to store a.d relea.e energy with high stora.e ca.a.ities(600 k Wh m-3) a.d negligible selfdischa.ge tha. ma.es them uniquely suited a. compa.t, sta.d-a.one units for da.ly or sea.ona. stora.e. However, TCMs suffer from insta.ilities a. the ma.eria.（sa.t pa.ticles） a.d rea.tor level（pa.ked beds of sa.t）, resulting in poor multi-cycle efficiency a.d high-levelized cost of stora.e. In this study, a.model is developed to predict the pulveriza.ion limit or Rcritof va.ious sa.t hydra.es during therma. cycling. This is critica. a. it provides design rules to ma.e mecha.ica.ly sta.le TCM composites a. well a. ena.les the use of more energy-efficient ma.ufa.turing process（solid-sta.e mixing） to ma.e the composites. The model is experimenta.ly va.ida.ed on multiple TCM sa.t hydra.es with different wa.er content, a.d effect of Rcriton hydra.ion a.d dehydra.ion kinetics is a.so investiga.ed.
