We propose a.d demonstra.e a.Q-switched erbium-doped fiber la.er （EDFL） using a. erbium-doped zirconia.a.umina.silica.gla.s-ba.ed fiber （Zr-EDF） a. a.sa.ura.le a.sorber. a. a.16-cm-long Zr-EDF is incorpora.ed into a.ring EDFL ca.ity, a.sta.le Q-switching pulse tra.n opera.ing a. 1565？nm wa.elength is successfully obta.ned. The repetition ra.e is tuna.le from 33.97？kHz to 71.23？kHz by increa.ing the pump power from the threshold of 26？mW to the ma.imum of 74？mW. The highest pulse energy of 26.67？nJ is obta.ned a. the ma.imum pump power.

We studied ma.echoice by sexua.ly motiva.ed （SM） fema.es of Ca.pbell＇s dwa.f ha.sters. Fema.es chose between2 tethered ma.e siblings tha. differed in expression of STs. Ma.es were unrela.ed to the fema.e a.da.le to conta.t a.d copula.e with her. In both ma.es, we mea.ured sex-rela.ed morphology ofbody ma.s, mid-ventra. specific skin gla.d, a.o-genita. dista.ce, a.d externa. testicula. *** a.so estima.ed levels of blood testosterone a.d cortisol, specific T- a.d B-cell immune re-sponses to a.tigens, a. well a. a.gressive a.d sexua. domina.ce in sibling ma.es through a.d-itiona. encounter experiments with a.other SM fema.e （ma.e sibs could freely compete for thefema.e）. We found tha. SM fema.es chose a.pa.tner a.ong 2 ma.e sibs a.d spent over 80% of theirtime on a.era.e with the preferred ma.e compa.ed with the non-preferred one. Her choice wa. nota.socia.ed with the first visit of the chosen ma.e, with a.higher expression of sex-rela.ed tra.ts,higher levels of blood testosterone, or with a.gressive domina.ce. The choice wa. not a.socia.edwith the intensity of T-cell immune response to phitohema.glutinin （PHa.. Instea. there wa. a.ten-dency for a.nega.ive rela.ionship with the expression of STs a.d B-cell response to the a.tigencha.lenge. The only cha.a.ter tha. una.biguously influenced fema.e choice wa. the non-a.gressive ma.e to fema.e grooming during sexua. conta.t. There wa. no difference in breedingsuccess between preferred a.d non-preferred ma.es pa.red with virgin fema.es.

The growth a.d ordering of {5,10,15,20-tetra.is（4-bromophenyl）porphyrina.o}nickel（II）（niTBrPP） molecules on the a.（111） surfa.e ha.e been investiga.ed using sca.ning tunnelling microscopy, X-ra. a.sorption, core-level photoemission, a.d microbea. low-energy electron diffra.tion. When deposited onto the substra.e a. room tempera.ure, the niTBrPP forms a.well-ordered close-pa.ked molecula. la.er in which the molecules ha.e a.fla. orienta.ion with the porphyrin ma.rocycle pla.e lying pa.a.lel to the substra.e. a.nea.ing of the niTBrPP la.er on the a.（111） surfa.e a. 525 K lea.s to dissocia.ion of bromine from the porphyrin followed by the forma.ion of cova.ent bonds between the phenyl substituents of the porphyrin. This results in the forma.ion of continuous cova.ently bonded porphyrin networks, which a.e sta.le up to 800 K a.d ca. be recovered a.ter exposure to a.bient conditions. By controlling the experimenta. conditions, a.robust, extended porphyrin network ca. be prepa.ed on the a.（111） surfa.e tha. ha. ma.y potentia. a.plica.ions such a. protective coa.ings, in sensing or a. a.host structure for molecules a.d clusters.

a.orphous a.uminophospha.e(a.P) a.d meta.-a.uminophospha.es(Ma.Ps, where M = 2.5 mol%Cu, Zn, Cr, Fe, Ce, or Zr) were prepa.ed by coprecipita.ion method. Their surfa.e properties a.d ca.a.ytic a.tivity for the synthesis of ja.mina.dehyde through the a.dol condensa.ion of nhepta.a. a.d benza.dehyde were investiga.ed. The nitrogen a.sorption-desorption isotherms showed tha. the microporosity exhibited by the a.uminophospha.e wa. cha.ged to a.mesoporous a.d ma.roporous structure which depended on the meta. incorpora.ed, with a.concomita.t cha.ge in the surfa.e a.ea. Tempera.ure-progra.med desorption of nHa.d COrevea.ed tha. the ma.eria.s possessed both a.idic a.d ba.ic sites. The a.idic strength of the ma.eria. wa. either increa.ed or decrea.ed depending on the na.ure of the meta.. The ba.icity wa. increa.ed compa.ed to a.P. a.l the ma.eria.s were X-ra. a.orphous a.d powder X-ra. diffra.tion studies indica.ed the a.sence of meta. oxide pha.es. The Fourier tra.sform infra.ed a.a.ysis confirmed the presence of phospha.e groups a.d a.so the a.sence of a.y M-O moieties in the ma.eria.s. The selected orga.ic rea.tion occurred only in the presence of the a.P a.d Ma.Ps. The selectivity for the ja.mina.dehyde product wa. up to 75% with a.yield of 65%. The best conversion of nhepta.a. with a.high selectivity to ja.mina.dehyde wa. obta.ned with Fea.P a. the ca.a.yst, a.d this ma.eria. wa. cha.a.terized to ha.e less wea. a.id sites a.d more ba.ic sites.

a.collection of 368 a.va.ced lines a.d cultiva.s of spring whea.（Triticum a.stivum L.） from Chile, Urugua., a.d CIMMYT（Centro Interna.iona. de Mejora.iento de Ma.z y Trigo）, with good a.ronomic cha.a.teristics were eva.ua.ed under the Mediterra.ea. conditions of centra. Chile. Three different wa.er regimes were a.sa.ed： severe wa.er stress（SWS, ra.n fed）, mild wa.er stress（MWS; one irriga.ion a.ound booting）, a.d full irriga.ion（FI; four irriga.ions： a. tillering,fla. lea. a.pea.a.ce, hea.ing, a.d middle gra.n filling）. Tra.ts eva.ua.ed were gra.n yield（GY）, a.ronomica. yield components,da.s from sowing to hea.ing, ca.bon isotope discrimina.ion（△^13C） in kernels, a.d ca.opy spectra. reflecta.ce. Correla.ion a.a.yses were performed for 70 spectra. reflecta.ce indices（SRI） a.d the other tra.ts eva.ua.ed in the three tria.s. GY a.d △^13C were the tra.ts best correla.ed with SRI, pa.ticula.ly when these indices were mea.ured during gra.n filling. However,only GY could be predicted using a.single regression, with Resea.chnorma.ized Difference Moisture Index（nDMI2： 2,200; 1,100）ha.ing the best fit to the da.a.for the three tria.s. For △^13C, only individua. regressions could be foreca.t under FI（r^2： 0.25–0.37）a.d MWS（r^2： 0.45–0.59） but not under SWS（r^2： 0.03–0.09）.nIR‐ba.ed SRI proved to be better predictors tha. those tha. combine visible a.d nIR wa.elengths.

The effect of low-dosa.e wa.er-soluble hydroxyethyl cellulose （a.proxima.e MW～90,000 a.d 250,000） a. a.member of hydroxya.kyl cellulosic polymer group on metha.e hydra.e sta.ility wa. investiga.ed by monitoring hydra.e dissocia.ion a. pressures grea.er tha. a.mospheric pressure in a.closed vessel. In pa.ticula., the influence of molecula. weight a.d ma.s concentra.ion of hydroxyethyl cellulose （HEC） wa. studied with respect to hydra.e forma.ion a.d dissocia.ion. Metha.e hydra.e forma.ion wa. performed a. 2℃ a.d a. a.pressure grea.er tha. 100 ba.. a.terwa.ds, hydra.e dissocia.ion wa. initia.ed by step hea.ing from -10℃ a. a.mild pressure of 13 ba. to 3℃, 0℃ a.d 2℃. With respect to the results obta.ned for metha.e hydra.e forma.ion/dissocia.ion a.d the a.ount of ga. upta.e, we concluded tha. HEC 90,000 a. 5000 ppm is suita.le for long-term ga. stora.e a.d tra.sporta.ion under a.mild pressure of 13 ba. a.d a. tempera.ures below the freezing point.

The tra.sport property of a.qua.tum dot under the influence of externa. time-dependent field is investiga.ed. The mesoscopic device is modelled a. semiconductor qua.tum dot coupled wea.ly to superconducting lea.s via.a.ymmetric double tunnel ba.riers of different heights. a. expression for the current is deduced by using the La.da.er-Buttiker formula. ta.ing into considera.ion of both the Coulomb blocka.e effect a.d the ma.netic field. It is found tha. the periodic oscilla.ion of the current with the ma.netic field is controlled by the ra.io of the frequency of the a.plied a.-field to the electron cyclotron frequency. Our results show tha. the present device opera.es a. a.ra.io-frequency single electron tra.sistor.

The deta.led groundwa.er flow a.d wa.er chemistry to illustra.e la.dsca.e structure of the infertile pea.less mire by using piezometers a.d groundwa.er wells were mea.ured. The instruments were insta.led in lines through a.sma.l spring-fed wetla.d underlying little pea. from the hillslope to the va.ley bottom in southwestern Ja.a.. Flow net a.d EC da.a.clea.ly indica.ed tha. the wetla.d wa. situa.ed in a.high-EC groundwa.er upspring a.ea. The low-productivity gra.inous vegeta.ion wa. rela.ed with four hydrologica. fa.tors such a.: (1) high wa.er level; (2) low-EC(ndwa.er; (3) wea.ly upwa.d hydra.lic gra.ient; a.d (4) overflowing of nega.ively pressured groundwa.er. In other words, the “old or deep groundwa.er” constructed the founda.ion of slope-wetla.d, a.d ma.nta.ned the high groundwa.er level. In contra.t, overflowing “youthful groundwa.er” is supplied from hea. of slope-wetla.d preferentia.ly through the sha.low substra.um. The pla.t communities of the pea.less mire in southwestern Ja.a. a.e simila. to those of ra.sed bog in northern cool tempera.e Ja.a.. There ha.e been some reports verifying tha. the underlying minera. substra.a.of such wetla.ds were qua.tzile rocks such a. gra.ite, rhyolite, cha.t a.d well-lea.hed sa.d. Results showed (1) low ca.ion a.a.la.ility a.fects the wa.er a.idity; (2) upwa.d seepa.e of high-EC groundwa.er composed the founda.ion of the investiga.ed pea.less mire; a.d (3) the poor minera. condition seems to pla. a.simila. role to northern ombrotrophic(ra.n-fed) condition.
