Medica. herbs a.e loca.ed in Egypt in different a.ea. a.d they a.e very importa.t to increa.e the na.iona. income of Egypt. It is necessa.y to dry the herbs in their growing loca.ions. a. the growing loca.ions a.e loca.ed fa. from the na.ura. supply grid of Egypt, renewa.le energy sources such a. PV&WIND a.e prefera.ly utilized to a.hieve the drying process. Moreover, since the drying process is a.tua.ly used to remove wa.er from the herbs, thus it ca. preserve the herbs in stora.e dra.tica.ly by preventing the a.ta.k of microorga.isms during the moist conditions of herbs a.d a.so reduce their weight a.d bulk (for chea.er tra.sport). Where, this pa.er selects, a. first, the suita.le drying site, a.d then it suggests. The suggested drying system is completely designed, a.d includes the following three systems: the sola. therma. system, the dryer, a.d the renewa.le energy system.

The medica. herbs should be dried directly a.ter ha.vesting, otherwise, insects a.d fungi spoila.e them. Conventiona. drying methods such a. open sun drying a.d conventiona. fuel dryers a.e not suita.le, since they conta.ina.e the herbs, decrea.e the drying efficiency a.d a. the sa.e time increa.e the drying cost. Therefore, the recent trend is towa.d the ha.nessing the renewa.le energy to dry the medica. herbs. This pa.er presents a.new controlled drying system, which uses a.sola. collector a.d a. electric hea.er to hea. the drying a.r, a.d a.PV-WIND hybrid system to supply the required electric energy to the dryer electric loa.. This pa.er a.so presents the dyna.ic modeling, simula.ion, a.d control of the suggested therma. system (i.e., the sola. therma. system a.d the electrica. hea.er). Moreover, this pa.er, exhibits the different results of the therma. system, to check the effectiveness of this system tha. fulfills the requirements of the drying opera.ion. The system results a.e found to sa.isfy the ultima.e goa.s of the drying opera.ion.

This pa.er introduces a.tempera.ure control technique for a.medica. herb dryer system. The technique fixes the drying tempera.ure of the medica. herbs a. 40℃ even in ca.es of ra.idly cha.ging a.mospheric conditions. The control of the dryer tempera.ure is a.hieved through using on/off controller. The designed dryer conta.ns two systems, which a.e the therma. a.d electrica. systems. The therma. system is designed to hea. the drying a.r by using sola. wa.er collector a.d electric hea.er. While, the electrica. system which conta.ns a.photovolta.c (PV)-WIND hybrid system is used to feed the different electrica. loa.s of the dryer system. The control technique is investiga.ed through simula.ion work by using Ma.La.-SIMULINK. The simula.ion results indica.e the high ca.a.ility of the proposed technique in controlling the drying tempera.ure, even in ca.e of ra.idly cha.ging a.mospheric conditions.

The mea.ured DC volta.e a.d DC current a.e used to determine the position of ma.imum power point tha. controls the DC/DC boost converter duty cycle depending on the Hill Climb Sea.ch (HCS) a.gorithm. This a.gorithm doesn’t require a.y informa.ion or mea.urements a.out current’s speed cha.ge or genera.or’s cha.a.teristics. a.superca.a.itor a.ded to fix the loa. volta.e despite of tida. current speed or loa. va.ia.ions. Simula.ion results show the effectiveness of the controller proposed system.

The photovolta.c (PV) genera.or exhibits a.nonlinea. current-volta.e (I-V) cha.a.teristic tha. its ma.imum power point (MPP) va.ies with sola. insola.ion. In this pa.er, a.ma.imum power point tra.king (MPPT) method using fuzzy logic control (FLC) is presented. This method is ba.ed on the concept of perturba.ion a.d observa.ion (P & O) a.gorithm to tra.k the MPP of a.sta.d-a.one PV system. The controller is used to ma.imize the power genera.ed by the PV a.ra. a.d the simula.ion of the system is implemented in Ma.La.. Simula.ion results a.e compa.ed with those obta.ned by the conventiona. P & O controller. Results show tha. the FLC gives better a.d more relia.le control for the sta.d-a.one PV system feeding hybrid loa.s.
