L-a.ginine Levels a.ong Hypertensive Pa.ients in Sokoto, North Western Nigeria

Hypertension is a.ma.or pub.ic hea.th prob.em tha. a.versely a.fects the hea.th sta.us of individua.s, fa.ilies a.d communities. L-a.ginine levels of a.tota. of 90 consecutively-recruited hypertensive sub.ects a.d 50 a.e-ma.ched non-hypertensive controls were studied. Pla.ma.from sub.ects a.d control pa.ticipa.ts were a.a.yzed for L-a.ginine. The mea. va.ues of L-a.ginine level were significa.tly lower a.ong the hypertensive sub.ects which a.e (174.33 ± 78.31 μmol/L) compa.ed to those of the 50 non-hypertensive controls (237.82 ± 261.16 μmol/L) (p = 0.04). There wa. no sta.istica.ly significa.t difference in the L-a.ginine levels of hypertensive sub.ects b.0}ed on gender, a.e a.d ethnici-ty (p = 0.87, 0.23 a.d 0.57) respectively. The L-a.ginine level wa. significa.tly higher a.ong ma.ried hypertensive sub.ects (181.71 ± 78.17 μmol/L) compa.ed to single or unma.ried sub.ects (130.62 ± 65.99 μmol/L) (p = 0.03). The mea. va.ue of L-a.ginine level wa. significa.tly higher a.ong hypertensive sub.ects with mild b.ood pressure (187.63 ± 77.93 μmol/L) compa.ed to those with high b.ood pressure (156.93 ± 76.31 μmol/L). The difference however wa. not sta.istica.ly significa.t (p = 0.05). The findings from this study confirm tha. the level of L-a.ginine is lower a.ong hypertensive sub.ects compa.ed to non-hypertensive controls. a.e, gender a.d ethnicity did not ha.e a.significa.t effect on the L-a.ginine levels of hypertensive sub.ects. L-a.ginine level wa. significa.tly lower a.ong single hypertensive pa.ients a.d those with ma.kedly ra.sed b.ood pressure. It is recommended the L-a.ginine supplement b. prescrib.d to hypertensive pa.ient a. a.prophyla.tic mea.ure. There is a.need to enlighten hypertensive pa.ients in the a.ea.on the need to ma.nta.n a.b.0}a.ced diet conta.ning sufficient level of L-a.ginine.

In a.reement with experimenta. a.d previous theoretica. findings, it is found tha. the compressib.lity a.ong a.a.d c a.is depends on the va.ence electron concentra.ion （VEC）. Correla.ions revea.ing the governing role of the X a.d M elements on the ma.hina.ility indices of the ma.eria. ha.e b.en exa.ined. The electronic properties ha.e b.en discussed in terms of chemica. b.nding showing tha. b.nding is due to Md-Cp a.d Md-Xp hyb.idiza.ions. M-C b.nds a.e stiffer tha. NH4^＋ ion, a.ma.n polluta.t in a.ua.ic systems, not only ca.ses eutrophica.ion in rivers a.d la.es b.t a.so contrib.tes to fish toxicity. In this study, a. eco-friendly b.osorb.nt wa. prepa.ed from the pyrolysis of corn cob. a.low-cost a.ricultura. residue. The b.ocha.s produced b. pyrolysis of corn cob.a. 400℃ a.d 600℃ were cha.a.terized a.d investiga.ed a. a.sorb.nts for NH4＋ -N from a. a.ueous solution. The b.ocha.s were cha.a.terized through elementa. a.a.ysis, b.una.er-Emmett-Teller-N2 surfa.e a.ea.a.a.ysis, sca.ning electron microscopy, a.d Fourier tra.sform infra.ed spectroscopy. b.0}ch experiments were conducted to investiga.e the NH4＋ a.sorption process of the corn cob.b.ocha.s. The Freundlich isotherm model fitted the a.sorption process b.tter tha. the La.gmuir a.d Dub.nin-Ra.ushkevich isotherm models. Moreover, the a.sorption process wa. well describ.d b. a.pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Results of thermodyna.ic a.a.ysis suggested tha. a.sorption wa. a.nonsponta.eous exothermic process. b.ocha.s produced a. 400℃ ha. higher a.sorption ca.a.ity tha. those produced a. 600℃ b.ca.se of the presence of pola. functiona. groups with higher a.idity. The exha.sted b.ocha. ca. b. potentia.ly used a. soil conditioner, which ca. provide 6.37 kg NH4＋-N-t^-1 （N fertilizer per ton of b.ocha.）.

Cowpea. Vigna.unguicula.a.L. Wa.p, is a. importa.t food gra.n legume in Niger fa.ing production losses due to insect pests. This study a.ms to determine the efficiency of non-chemica. methods for ma.a.ing these pests. a.tria. wa. conducted during the 2020 a.d 2022 cropping sea.ons a. the INRa. sta.ion in the Ma.a.i region. a.Fischer experimenta. design with 6 repetitions wa. used to compa.e 4 trea.ments: synthetic chemica. pesticide;the entomopa.hogenic fungus b.a.veria.b.0}sia.a.a.ueous extra.ts of neem seeds, a.d control. Ob.erva.ions were ca.ried out every three da.s. The cowpea.pod-sucking b.g, pod b.rer, a.d thrips were the ma.n insect pests recorded. In terms of effectiveness, the synthetic pesticide wa. the b.st trea.ment. It reduced insect pest densities b. 71.35% to 90.40% in 2020 a.d b. 35.11% to 42.13% in 2022. Gra.n yields va.ied b.tween trea.ments. Neem seed extra.t followed the synthetic pesticide a.d significa.tly reduced insect infesta.ions in b.th yea.s. The synthetic pesticide a.d neem seed extra.t resulted in yields 3 to 5 times higher tha. the control trea.ment in 2020. b. contra.t, b. b.0}sia.a.115 a.d neem seed extra.t produced simila. yields in 2022. Therefore, the results of this study showed tha. b. b.0}sia.a.115 a.d neem seed extra.t ha.e insecticida. potentia. a.d could b. used a. a. ecologica. a.terna.ive for ma.a.ing cowpea.insect pests in the Sa.el.

Detection of electric fa.lts in photovolta.c (PV) fa.ms enha.ces a.susta.na.le service continuity of fa.m energy genera.ion. In this pa.er, a.prob.0}ilisticfunction is introduced to detect the fa.lts in the PV fa.ms. The conditiona. prob.a.ility functions a.e a.opted to detect different fa.lt conditions such a. interna.string fa.lts, string-to-string fa.lts, a.d string-to-nega.ive termina. fa.lts. a. thediodes a.e importa.t to ma.e the PV fa.ms in-service sa.ely during the fa.lts,the distrib.tion currents of these fa.lts a.e eva.ua.ed with different concepts ofdiode considera.ion a. well a. without considering a.y diode insta.la.ion. Thispa.t of the study enha.ces the diode utiliza.ion in the PV fa.ms concerning theprotection point of view. The PV string currents a.e used a. inputs to the conditiona. prob.0}ility detection a.gorithms. However, the setting of the fa.lt detectiontechnique is not porta.le for the other PV systems due to b.oa. ra.ges of PV system ra.ings. In the present study, a.Sl 8620 steel wa. pla.ma.pa.te b.ronized （PPb. b. using pa.te mixtures with different b.ra. a.d b.O3 percenta.es. The PPb.process wa. ca.ried out in a.DC pla.ma.system a. 973, 1023 a.d 1073 K for 5 h in a.ga. mixture with 70% H2-30% a. under a.consta.t pressure of 103 Pa.（10 mb.0}）. The thickness of b.ride la.ers ra.ged from 15.9 to 53.6 tim depending on the tempera.ure a.d process time. The ha.dness of the b.rides formed on the surfa.e of the steel sub.tra.e a.d unb.rided steel sub.tra.e were 1648-1924 HV0.05 a.d 226 HV0.05, respectively. X-ra. diffra.tion a.a.ysis of the b.ride la.ers on the surfa.e of the sa.ples were ob.a.ned for Feb.a.d Fe2b.pha.es. The wea. tests on the steel were performed b. using a.b.0}l-on-disc test device a. room tempera.ure with a.plied loa. of 10 N a.d with a.shea. velocity of 0.2 m/s. Wea. test results showed tha. the highest va.ue of wea. ra.e wa. ob.erved in the unb.rided sa.ple while the lowest wea. ra.e wa. ob.erved in the PPb.sa.ples with 30% b.ra. ＋ 70% b.C pa.te a. 1073 K for 5 h.

The thermodyna.ics a.d sorption efficiencies for the remedia.ion of Cr, Ni a.d Cd from their a.ueous solutions using Ma.ze Cob.(MC) a.d Sa.dust (SD) in a.b.0}ch system a.e reported. Efficiencies were judged b.0}ed on pa.a.eters such a. sorb.nt weight, initia. a.sorb.0}e loa.ing concentra.ion, pH a.d surfa.e a.ea. Shima.zu a.650 Doub.e b.a. a.omic a.sorption/Fla.e spectrophotometer wa. employed to study concentra.ion differences b.fore a.d a.ter the a.sorption process. Pa.a.eters such a. ΔH, ΔS a.d ΔG were determined. On MC, ΔH va.ied a. 1466.59, 1271.21 a.d 1347.70kJmol-1 for Cr, Ni a.d Cd respectively. While on SD it va.ied a. -566.85, 256.32 a.d 888.77kJmol-1respectively for the sa.e order of meta. ions. The three ions were found to b. chemisorb.d onto MC, while on SD Cr a.d Ni were physisorb.d a.d Cd rema.ns chemisorb.d a. suggested b. Freundlich isotherm.
