Role of climatic variability in shaping intraspecific variation of thermal tolerance in Mediterranean water beetles

The climatic variability hypothesis(CVH)predicts that organisms in more thermally variable environments have wider thermal breadths and higher thermal plasticity than those from more stable ***,due to evolutionary trade-offs,taxa with greater absolute thermal limits may have little plasticity of such limits(trade-off hypothesis).The CVH assumes that climatic variability is the ultimate driver of thermal tolerance variation across latitudinal and altitudinal gradients,but average temperature also varies along such *** explored intraspecific variation of thermal tolerance in three typical Mediterranean saline water beetles(families Hydrophilidae and Dytiscidae).For each species,we compared two populations where the species coexist,with similar annual mean temperature but contrasting thermal variability(continental *** population).We estimated thermal limits of adults from each population,previously acclimated at 17,20,or 25℃.We found species-specific patterns but overall,our results agree with the CVH regarding thermal ranges,which were wider in the continental(more variable)*** the two hydrophilid species,this came at the cost of losing plasticity of the upper thermal limit in this population,supporting the trade-off hypothesis,but not in the dytiscid *** results support the role of local adaptation to thermal variability and trade-offs between basal tolerance and physiological plasticity in shaping thermal tolerance in aquatic ectotherms,but also suggest that intraspecific variation of thermal tolerance does not fit a general pattern among aquatic *** such intraspecific variation could lead to inaccurate predictions of the vulnerability of aquatic insects to global warming.

Bed inventory balance and stability of dual circulating fluidized bed systems

Experiments and modelling are conducted for general understanding on the imbalance phenomenon and for discussion on the strategies to improve the bed inventory balance and stability of a dual circulating fluidized bed(DCFB)*** experiments are carried out in a 15.5 m high pilot-scale DCFB cold test system.A fluid-dynamic DCFB model is developed based on a 1.5-dimensional semi-empirical model of an industrial CFB boiler,validated by experimental *** effects of control methods and operation conditions on the bed inventory balance and on the stability of the pilot-and large-scale DCFB systems are discussed.A"stable-unbalanced"state,where the system reaches a steady state,consisting of un-balanced bed inventories,is observed in both experiments and model *** maintain a balanced state and similar bed inventory in the DCFB systems with similar cross-sectional areas,it is recom-mended to keep similar total pressure drops or gas velocities in both reactors.

Recurrence of inflammatory pseudotumor in the distal bile duct: Lessons learned from a single case and reported cases

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors （IMTs） or inflammatory pseudotumors （IPs） have been extensively discussed in the literature. They are usually found in the lung and upper respiratory tract. However, reporting of cases involving the biliopancreatic region has increased over recent years. Immunohistochemical study of these lesions limited to the pancreatic head or distal bile duct seems to be compatible with those observed in a new entity called autoimmune pancreatitis, but usually intense fibrotic reaction （zonation） predominates producing a mass. When this condition is limited to the pancreatic head, the common bile duct might be involved by the inflammatory process and jaundice may occur often resembling adenocarcinoma of the pancreas. We have previously reported a case of IMT arising from the bile duct associated with autoimmune pancreatitis which is an extremely rare entity. Four years after Kaush-Whipple resection, radiological examination on routine follow-up revealed a tumor mass, suggesting local recurrence. Ultrasound-guided FNA confirmed our suspicious diagnosis. This present case, as others, suggests that persistent follow-up is necessary in order to prevent irreversible liver damage at this specific location.

Protein misfolding and aggregation into amyloid fibrils is the main pathological hallmark of neurodegenerative diseases,including Alzheimer’s,Parkinson’s,Huntington’s,and prion diseases(Chiti and Dobson,2017).These insoluble fibrillar deposits possess a common structure characterized by a cross-β-sheet conformation in which β-strands run transversely to the fiber axis and form an intermolecular network of hydrogen bonds.

BACKGROUND From February 2020 onwards,our country has been hit by the coronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome-2(sARs-CoV-2)*** a glance,hospitals became overrun and had to reformulate all the assistance guidelines,focusing on the coronavirus disease *** year after the start of the pandemic,we present the results of a morbimortality *** To analyze how our department was affected by the outbreak in terms of morbimortality,and to analyze demographic data,admission to hospital-related data,and subgroups analyses for patients with hip fractures and *** We designed a study comparing data from patients who were admitted to our unit due to a lower limb fracture or a high energy trauma during the pandemic(from March to April 2020)to those admitted during the same period in 2019 before the *** the pandemic *** cohorts completed a minimum of 6 mo of *** The number of patients admitted to hospital in 2020 was nearly half of those in *** fractures in the elderly represented 52 out of 73 of the admitted *** patients had a positive test result for sARs-CoV-2 *** with sARs-CoV-2 infection were admitted to the hospital for a longer time than the non-infected(Pspitalization and follow-up(P=0.02).Patients with a hip fracture associated with a severe respiratory syndrome were mostly selected for conservative treatment(P=0.03).CONCLUsION Mortality and readmission rates were higher in the 2020 cohort and during follow-up,in comparison with the cohort in 2019.

AIM: To determine whether there are gender differences in the epidemiological profile of atrial fibrillation (AF) and to characterise the clinical, biochemical, and therapeutic factors associated with AF. METHODs: Each investigator (primary care physicians or physicians based in hospital units for hypertension treatment) recruited the first 3 patients with an age of ≥ 65 years and a clinical diagnosis of hypertension (ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and an electrocardiogram, were performed) on the first working day of the week for 5 wk and identified those individu-als with atrial fibrillation. A binary logistic regression was performed, including all of the variables that were significant in the univariate analysis, to establish the variables that were associated with the presence of arrhythmia. REsULTs: A total of 1028 patients were included in the study, with a mean age of 72.8 ± 5.8 years. Of these patients, 47.3% were male, 9% were smokers, 27.6% were diabetics, 48.3% had dyslipidaemia, 10.9% had angina, and 6.5% had experienced a myocardial infarction. Regarding gender differences, the men exhibited a larger waist circumference, a lower body mass index, less obesity, and a more extensive history of diabetes, smoking, ischaemic heart disease, kidney failure, peripheral arterial disease and carotid disease than the women. There were no differences, however, in the prevalence of AF between the men and the women (11.5% vs 9.2%, respectively; P = no significant). Regarding treatment, the women received antiplatelet agents and diuretics less frequently, but there were no other differences in the use of antihypertensive and antithrombotic therapies. In the multivariate analysis, AF in the total study population was associated with age, alcohol consumption, the presence of heart disease, and decreased glomerular filtration. 目前在计算水平弯曲的复合钢梁桥时,通常采用一种近似方法,即单个直梁的线弹性分析法,其中具有可变参数以考虑构件曲率。归纳了明尼苏达州德卢斯的一个具有较重活荷载的多跨水平弯曲工字形复合钢梁桥的现场试验数据和计算结果。将8个320kN的卡车以43种静力加载和13种动力加载的方式放置在桥上,并将试验结果与线弹性梁格分析中得到的结果进行对比。桥被设计为由强度控制,梁的应力达到了屈服应力的75%,有些部位甚至达到了最大应力,同时,对梁、隔板、水平抗风支撑、桥面板、轴承的性能和疲劳特性进行了描述。采用梁格分析以验证这些方法对于计算梁桥承载能力的有效性和准确性。
