A virtual crack vector model is proposed in this paper to simulate the branched crack propagation and simplify its calculation of energy release *** energy gradient fracture criterion is constructed based on this *** can take account of the effects of biaxial loads or T-stress on brittle mixed mode fracture and agrees well with the test data of biaxial tensile fracture and the specially conducted experiment of the influences ofσ on the mixed mode fracture of *** its advantage of predicting initial propagation angle and critical fracture stress independently without the determination of the core region radius,it can be used as a practical fracture criterion for brittle mixed mode fracture under biaxial tension.

A thermodynamic model for the solubility of carbon dioxide(CO) in pure water and in aqueous NaCl solutions for temperatures from 273 to 533 K,for pressures from 0 to 2000 bar,and for ionic strength from 0 to 4.3 m is *** model is based on a specific particle interaction theory for the liquid phase and a highly accurate equation of state for the vapor *** this specific interaction approach,this model is able to predict CO solubility in other systems,such as CO-HO-CaCl and CO-seawater,without fitting experimental data from these systems. Comparison of the model predictions with experimental data indicates that the model is within or close to experimental uncertainty,which is about 7%in CO solubility.(?) 2003 Elsevier Science *** rights reserved.

Sm-Nd isotopic system is a powerful tracer and dating tool in geochemistry and cosmochemistry. Thermal ionization mass spectrometry(TIMS) is the benchmark method for obtaining high precision Nd isotope ***,a two-step separation was employed in order to obtain high purity Nd fraction,which makes the sample preparation *** this study,we present a new method to directly obtain precise and accurate Nd isotope ratios of geological samples without Sm-Nd separation. The key point is to well correct isobaric interferences of Sm on Nd for this *** accurate intensity of Sm can be obtained using Sm/Sm ratio of 4.87090 and mass discrimination factor of Sm(β),which is achieved using Sm/Sm ratio of 1.08583 with Russell ***,the real intensity of Nd was achieved,then also raw Nd/Nd,Nd/Nd ***,Nd/Nd ratio is normalized using Nd/Nd ratio of 0.7219 following exponential *** accuracy of this method is validated by replicating TIMS measurements for thirteen international reference materials of silicate rock,spanning a wide range of Sm/Nd from 0.13.to 0.46.and bulk *** measured Nd/Nd ratios of the rock standards are in good agreement with the reported values of within error of±0.004%.Our new method shortens the analytical procedure and significantly improves sample throughput which greatly contributes to those studies requiring a large dataset and quick analysis.

Volcanic rocks associated with Early Carboniferous gold mineralization are well exposed in the eastern part of Sawur Mountains, Xinjiang,*** results for these volcanic rocks recognize the Eastern Sawur caldera complex and broadly subdivide the volcanic -magmatic activity into the three cycles and nine *** Eastern Sawur caldera complex consists of at least one elliptical andesite caldera,associated with later and smaller circular andesite caldera,mafic volcanic necks and mafic to felsic dikes. The effusive rocks have a transitional character from calc-alkaline to tholeiite,range from porphyritic basalts,basaltic andesites,andesites to dacites,are enriched in large ion lithophile elements(LILE) and depleted in high-field strength elements(HFSE) relative to NMORB, with a pronounced negative Nb ***-normalized rare earth element(REE) patterns show enrichment in the light REE relative to heavy *** volcanic rocks have near-uniform initial Sr/Sr(0.70335-0.7036.) and sup>143Nd/Nd(0.51254- 0.51259;ε = 3.5-4.7) *** rocks originated from the partial melting of a subduction-modified mantle wedge in a subduction *** wedge represents an enriched MORB mantle source with some transfer of subduction components to the wedge during the magmas *** assimilation could have played a role in petrogenesis during the ascent of the *** characteristics of these volcanic rocks are consistent with their formation in a subduction-related tectonic setting during the Early Carboniferous. The Shanxi rift is an intraplate extensional zone in the North china *** extension has previously been considered to result from anticlockwise block rotation,with successive indentation of the Indian plate toward the Eurasian ***,GPS data show that the entire North china Block is moving coherently from WNW to ESE,indicating that no significant block rotations presently exist along the two sides of the *** use a viscoelastic model to predict that its active extension might be caused by intraplate deformation localization with lateral changes of the crustal rheological structures.A model result shows that for the ESE movement of the North china Block,the existing topographical loading and crustal weakness could have resulted in the obvious long-term extension of the Shanxi rift even without different block *** surface extension rate approximated from lateral inhomogeneous crustal models is～0.5- 1,4 mm yr,consistent with observed geological and seismological extension rates.

High-pressure granulites are generally characterized by the absence of ***, orthopyroxene is reported in a few high-pressure,felsic-metapelitic granulites,such as the Huangtuling felsic high-pressure granulite in the North Dabie metamorphic core complex in east-central china, which rarely preserves the high-pressure granulite facies assemblage of garnet + orthopyroxene + biotite + plagioclase + K-feldspar + *** investigate the effects of bulk-rock composition on the stability of orthopyroxene-bearing,high-pressure granulite facies assemblages in the NCKFMASHTO (NaO-CaO-KO-FeO-MgO-AlO-SiO-HO-TiO-FeO) system,a series of P-T-X pseudosections based on the melt-reintegrated composition of the Huangtuling felsic high-pressure granulite were *** demonstrate that the orthopyroxene-bearing,high-pressure granulite facies assemblages are restricted to low X[AlO/(NaO + CaO + KO + FeO + MgO + A1O)0.85]felsic-metapelitic rock *** study also reveals that the X values in the residual felsic-metapelitic,high-pressure granulites could be significantly reduced by a high proportion of melt *** suggest that orthopyroxene-bearing,high-pressure granulites occur in residual overthickened crustal basement under continental subduction-collision zones and arc-continent collision belts.

The timing and genesis of the major Ni-Cu-Co sulfide deposit in the Xiangshan intrusion have been studied based on newly obtained in-situ U-Pb,Hf and Re-Os isotopic *** SIMS U-Pb zircon ages of the gabbro hosting the Ni-Cu-Co sulfide deposit indicate that the Xiangshan intrusion was emplaced at 279.6.1.1 Ma(95%confidence level,MSWD=1.30,n=15).On the basis of combined geological and geochronological evidence,we suggest that the Xiangshan and other adjacent Ni-Cu deposits were formed in the same *** have low common Os concentrations and high Re/Os ratios,similar to sulphide ores from the Duluth,Sally Malay and Voisey Bay *** Re-Os isotopic data from the disseminated and massive ores from the Xiangshan intrusion do not form a single isochron,as they have different initial Os *** Hf and Os isotopic data suggest that the Xiangshan intrusion and associated Ni-Cu-Co mineralization were derived from crustally contaminated mantle *** geochemical data show a tholeiitic affinity and a strong suprasubduction zone signature with negative Nb,Sr,and Ti anomalies similar to N-MORB and *** suggest that the mafic-ultramafic rocks and associated Ni-Cu mineralization of the Eastern Tianshan orogen formed in an Alaska-type subduction zone-arc *** diagnostic features of ridge-trench interaction are present in the Chinese East Tianshan orogen(***,adakites,high-Mg andesites,near-trench magmatism,Alaskan-type mafic-ultramafic complexes,high-temperature metamorphic belts that prograde rapidly from low-grade belts,and orogenic gold deposits).The above distinctive rock groups are probably related to the same thermal event,ridge subduction,as in the Cenozoic orogen of Alaska.
