To obtain high titer monoclonal antibodies(McAbs) which can react with mammalian prion protein(PrP),Balb/c mice were immunized with bovine(Bo) PrP peptide(BoPrP 209-228 aa) coupled to keyhole limpet hemocyanin(KLH).The hybridoma cell lines secreting monoclonal antibodies against the peptide were established by cell fusion and *** obtained McAbs were applied to detect recombinant human,bovine and hamster PrP,cellular prion protein(PrPc) in normal bovine brain and pathogenic scrapie prion protein(PrPSc) accumulated in the medulla oblongata of bovine spongiform encephalopathy(BSE)specimen with Western blot and immunohistochemical detection,*** current procedure might offer a simple,feasible method to raise high titer antibodies for studying biological features of PrP in mammals,as well as detection of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy(TSE) and diagnosis of BSE,in particular.

The photodissociation of ethyl iodide at 279.71, 281.73, 304.02 and 304.67 nm has been studied on our new mini-photofragment translational spectrometer with a total flight path of only 5.cm. Some vibra-tional peaks are firstly resolved in the TOF spectra of I*(2P1/2) and I(2P3/2) channels. These vibrational peaks are assigned to the excitation states (ν2 = 0, 1, 2,…) of the umbrella mode (ν2, 5.0 cm-1) of the photofragment c2H5. and the distribution of the vibrational states is obtained. The dissociation energy has been determined to be D0(c-I)=2.314 ± 0.03 eV. The energy partitioning of the available energy (Eavl=ET+Eint=ET+EV,R) calculated from our experimental data E int /E avl= 22.1% at 281.73 nm, 22.4% at 304.02 nm for the I* channel, and E int /E avl= 25.2% at 279.71 nm, 25.9% at 304.67 nm for the I channel, seem to be more reliable.

Determination of the optical thickness and effective particle radius of clouds from transmitted solar radiation measurements

A method is presented for determining the optical thickness (τc) and effective particle radius (re) of stratiform cloud layers from transmitted solar radiation measurements. A detailed study shows that the cloud optical thickness and effective particle radius of water clouds can be determined from transmission function measurements at 0.75.and 2.13 μm, provided that the scaled optical thickness τ′0.75.1 and re>5.μm. The wavelengths adopted by our study are similar to the channels of the moderate resolution imaging spectrometer (MODIS). The proposed method is invalid for optically thin clouds since transmission at 2.13 μm is less sensitive to re. The retrieval errors of τ′0.75.and re monotonically decrease with increasing τc. For clouds having τ′0.75.2, the retrieval errors of τ′0.75.and re are below 10% and 20%, respectively. Transmissions at 0.75.and 1.65.μm can also be used to retrieve τc and re.

Phase evolution of tantalum nitride and tantalum carbide films with PBII parameters

Tantalum nitride and tantalum carbide films were fabricated using magnetron sputtering of tantalum followed by nitrogen and carbon plasma-based ion implantation （N-PBII and c-PBII）. The phase evolution and morphology of the films were studied using glancing angle X-ray diffraction （GXRD） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM）. It was found that the main phase in the tantalum nitride films was crystalline TaNo.1 whose grain size increases with increasing implantation voltage and phase content increases with increasing implantation dose. In the tantalum carbide film, the main phase was Ta2c. Tac phase also appeared as the implantation dose increased. XRD results from various glancing angles show that the phases with high nitrogen or carbon content, Ta4N5.and Tac, are present in the surface of the films. X-ray photoelectron spectra （XPS） from the tantalum carbide film reveal that the surface carbon content is higher than that of the inner film.

Youger Dryas and Heinrich events recorded by magnetic susceptibility of sediments from the central temperature area of Western Pacific Warm Pool

Three short geomagnetic excursions, the Go thenburg, Mono Lake and Mungo (or Maelifell) in the Brunhes Positive Polarity period, were revealed based on the studies of magnetostratigraphy, susceptibility (c) and d 18O of sediments in core WP 92-5.from the central temperature area of the Western Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP), and the ages of them are 12.111.3 kaBP, 25.024.0 kaBP, and 31.028.0 kaBP respectively. Furthermore, the Younger Dryas (YD) and Heinrich (H) cold events were also discov- ered in this core by the susceptibility record. The YD cold event occurred at the depth of 3022 cm with an age of 11.5.0.6 kaBP; H1, H2 and H3 cold events occurred at depths of 5.39 cm, 10891 cm and 140126 cm with ages of 15.113.0 kaBP, 25.022.1 kaBP and 30.628.2 kaBP respectively, which well correspond to the H1, H2, H3 events recorded by susceptibility of core SU90-09 from middle At- lantic, indicating that the susceptibility change of marine sediments can be an important sign of climatic frequent fluc- tuations.
