Aim:The resurgence of severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS)is still a threatbecause the causative agent remaining in animal reservoirs is not fully understood,and sporadic cases continue to be *** high titers of anti-SARShyperimmune globulin to provide an alternative pathway for emergent future pre-vention and treatment of ***:SARS coronavims(CoV)F69(AY313906)and Z2-Y3(AY394989)were isolated and identified from 2 different Cantoneseonset SARS *** was prepared from SARS-CoV F69 *** horses were immunized 4 times and serum was collected periodically tomeasure the profile of specific IgG and neutralizing antibodies using indirect en-zyme-linked immunosorbent assay and a microneutralization *** were col-lected in large amounts at the peak,where IgG was precipitated using ammoniumsulphate and subsequently digested with *** product was then purifiedusing anion-exchange chromatography to obtain F(ab′)2 fragments,Results:Thespecific IgG and neutralizing antibody titers peaked at approximately week 7 afterthe first immunization,with a maximum value of 1:*** sera collected at thepeak were then *** of approximately 15 g F(ab′)2 was obtained from1 litre antiserum and the purity was above 90% with the titer of 1:5120,which couldneutralize the other strain(SARS-CoV Z2-Y3)as ***:This researchprovides a viable strategy for the prevention and treatment of SARS coronavirusinfection with equine hyperimmune globulin,with the purpose of combating anyresurgence of SARS.

Relationships between Weight Status and Bullying Victimization among School-aged Adolescents in guangdong province of china

Objective To examine relationships between weight status and different forms of bullying victimization among adolescents aged 11-18 years. Methods The relationships between weight status and bullying victimization （physical, verbal, and relational） were examined utilizing data from the guangdong Provincial Youth Health Behavior Survey. Data on height, weight, and victimization behaviors were collected by self-reporting from 12 439 subjects, Х^2 test and logistic regression were used to analyze relationships between weight and bullying victimization. Results The incidence of victimization for adolescents aged 11-18 years was 8.6%, with higher rates for boys （12.4%） than for girls （4.7%）. For children with normal, overweight and obese body mass index （BMI）, the incidence rates of victimization were 8,2%, 17.3%, and 11.5%, respectively. Compared to normal weight, overweight was a risk factor for bullying victimization（OR=1.60, 95% CI： 1.18-2.17）, and it also increased children＇s risk of being teased in a hurtful way （OR=2.13, 95% CI： 1.41-3.24） and being made fun of due to physical appearance （OR=3.58, 95% CI： 2.27-5.67）. Obesity only increased the risk for children of being made tim of due to physical appearance （OR=2.45, 95% CI： 1.44-4.15）. Conclusions The victimization for children at school is common in guangdong province, china. Overweight and obese children are more likely to be victims of bullying behaviors, especially verbal victimization.

BACKGROUND: Atrophy of skeletal muscle is found under the condition of muscular disuse or in the process of fixation. It is affected by fixation, and electromyogram (EMG) discharge and muscular strength levels will be significantly decreased with accelerating tendency. Electrical stimulation (ES) therapy can release the velocity of muscular disuse atrophy effectively, so it is an effective method for preventing and treating muscular disuse atrophy and accelerating rehabilitation velocity following removal of fixation. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of ES therapy at different time points following the fixation of rat models of muscular disuse atrophy on muscular strength and EMG of quadriceps femoris. DESIGN: A randomized and controlled animal experiment. SETTING: Department of Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy, guangzhou General Hospital of guangzhou Military Area Command of Chinese PLA; College of Sports Science, South china Normal University. MATERIALS: Male SD rats, of clean grade, aged 4 months old, weighing (230±10) g, were provided by the Animal Experimental center of Sun Yat-sen University. EMG measurement and analysis system (NEC Company, Japan) and four-channel recorder (NEC Company, Japan) were used in this experiment. METHODS: This experiment was carried out in the Laboratory of Human Sports Science, South china Normal University between September 2003 and March 2004. Totally 125 successful SD rat models of muscular disuse atrophy were randomly divided into 5 groups with 25 rats in each by a lot: normal control group, in which, the rats were untouched; ES 24 hours, 1, 2 and 3 weeks groups: the knees of rats in these four groups were fixed. Rats in four groups underwent ES therapy at 24 hours, 1, 2 and 3 weeks after fixation. T90-Ⅱ computer ES muscular strength training instrument was used in ES therapy every other day. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the epidemiological features of tuberculosis (TB) in guangdong. METHODS: Data on all TB cases in guangdong from 2004 to 2009 were obtained from the china Information System for disease control and prevention (CISDCP).RESULTS: TB incidence rates and mortality rates increased significantly in guangdong during the study period, from 84.0/100 000 to 118.2/100 000 and from 0.133/100 000 to 0.239/100 000, respectively. The smear rates gradually increased but the smear-positive rates gradually decreased from 2004 to 2009. The incidence rates in foothill regions (141.4-176.8/100 000) were significantly higher than thoes in Pear River Delta(45.7-96.2/100 000). The ratio of male to female in TB cases was 2.67:1 and the ratios of TB cases in age 20-60 were 66.2% for male and 73.9 for female. The farmer and labourer were the in the top two occupation ratios in TB incidence , with 64.8%. The case-fatality ratio in the elder was 18.6%.CONCLUSIONS: The increase of TB incidence rate in guangdong was mainly due to the increase of TB incidence rate in labourer and unemployed, especially at age 15-30 and age 35-50, from 2004 to 2009. DOTs implementation makes the smear rate increasing and the smear-positive rate *** control is a challenge issue in guangdong.

Background:Relying on surveillance of clinical cases limits the ability to understand the full impact and severity of an epidemic,which urges a deep insight into the serological evidence of infection and transmission feature of pandemic H1N1 2009 (pH1N1) virus in guangdong ***:In this cross-sectional serological survey,serum samples were collected by multi-stage stratified random sampling in Jan *** titers were measured by hemagglutination inhibition (HI) ***-specific and region-specific prevalence were calculated based on the results of HI assay (positive,HI titer≥1:40).Results:A total of 4,319 serum samples had been collected from subjects without vaccination with pH1N1 *** seroprevalence was 22.82% (985/4,319).By contrast,there was a marked spatial heterogeneity in *** seroprevalence was 27.3% in large city,21.4% in medium cities,higher than that of 20.2% in rural *** seroprevalence was highest in 11-20 age group (32.8%),however,in those above 60 years of age group,which was 12.6%,lower than other age *** the other hand,antibody titers to pH1N1 virus were highest in school children,which were followed by a gradual decrease in ***,in the elderly groups from cities,especially from large city,the antibody titer to pH1N1 increased significantly and reached a much higher ***:Our results showed that the prevalence for pH1N1 was correlated with age and population *** antibody may have protected the very old from pH1N1 infection,while original antigenic sin and immunosenescence may have contributed to greater severity once *** should be considered when studying the pathogenesis and transmission of influenza virus and formulating strategies on vaccination and treatment.

china is currently experiencing one of the most rapidly expanding HIV epidemics in the world. Although the overall prevalence rate is still low, with a population of 1.3 billion, high-risk factors which have contributed to the HIV/AIDS epidemics worldwide continue to prevail in china, including a high rate of injecting drug use and needle sharing, commercial sex with low rates of condom use, and concurrent sex with both commercial sex workers and noncom- mercial casual or steady sex partners. In addition, there are increasing “double risk” populations overlapping drug users and sex workers, as well as increasing rates of STDs and HIV among high-risk populations. Sexual transmission, therefore, may serve as a bridge connecting high-risk populations with general populations. There is an urgent need to prevent the spread of HIV from these high-risk populations into the general population of china.
