BACKGROUND; Operative complications after laparo- scopic cholecystectomy (LC) vary. Abdominal pain and other symptoms caused by fluid accumulation in the opera- tive area are not uncommon. Cystic duct (CD) leakage is one of the main sources of the fluid. This study was to eva- luate the procedures used in the diagnosis and management of CD leakage after LC. METHOD: The clinical materials of 3 patients with CD leakage after LC were studied retrospectively. RESULTS: Three female patients underwent LC for chronic cholecystitis associated with stones. Their clinical symp- toms were worsened of pre-existed cardiac arrhythmia, bile draining out from drainage tube, and biliary spillage from umbilical incision, respectively. Final diagnosis was made at the 1st, 2nd and 20th post-operative day. Two of the 3 patients were treated laparoscopically. Their opened CD stumps were closed with an endo-loop, with the abdomen irrigated and drained. The other patient was drained with the percutaneous technique, and a biliary stent was inserted under endoscopy. All patients recovered well. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical manifestations of CD leakage are different. Ascites can be found by B-ultrasound. Final diagnosis is dependent on magnetic resonance cholangiog- raphy and/or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatog- raphy. Minimally invasive techniques can be applied to this complication safely and effectively. Reoperarion for closure of the opened CD stump can be fulfilled under laparosco- py. Endoscopic drainage must be accompanied with effec- tive abdominal drainage.

A novel method of designing and preparing bone tissue engineering scaffolds with controllable porous structure of both macro channels and micro pores was proposed. The CAD software UG NX3.0 was used to design the macro channels＇ shape, size and distribution. By integrating rapid prototyping and traditional porogen technique, the macro channels and micro pores were formed respectively. The size, shape and quantity of micro pores were controlled by porogen particulates. The sintered β-TCP porous scaffolds possessed connective macro channels of approximately 500 μm and micro pores of 200-400 μm. The porosity and connectivity of micro pores became higher with the increase of porogen ratio, while the mechanical properties weakened. The average porosity and compressive strength offl-TCP scaffolds prepared with porogen ratio of 60wt% were 78.12% and 0.2983 MPa, respectively. The cells＇ adhesion ratio of scaffolds was 67.43%. The ALP activity, OCN content and cells micro morphology indicated that cells grew and proliferated well on the scaffolds.

It was suggested that chronic ethanol exposure could result in testicular germ cell apoptosis, but the mechanism is still unclear. In the present study, we use a model of transgenic mice ubiquitously overexpressing human FasL to investigate whether Fas ligand plays a role in ethanol-induced testicular germ cell apoptosis. Both wild-type (WT) mice and transgenic (TG) mice were treated with acute ethanol (20％ v/v) by introperitoneal injection for five times. After ethanol injection, WT mice displayed up-regulation of Fas ligand in the testes, which was shown by FITC-conjugated flow cytometry and western blotting. Moreover, TG mice exhibited significantly more apoptotic germ cells than WT mice did after ethanol injection, which was demonstrated by DNA fragmentation, PI staining flow cytometry and TUNEL staining. In addition, histopathological examination revealed that degenerative changes of epithelial component of the tubules occurred in FasL overexpressing transgenic mice while testicular morphology was

BACKGROUND:The prognostic role of diabetes mellitus (DM) coexisting with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains *** clarify its impact on survival in HCC patients after curative treatments,a meta-analysis was *** SOURCES:Eligible studies were identified through multiple search strategies in the databases PubMed (MEDLINE),EMBASE,the Cochrane Library and ACP Journal Club between January 1950 and March *** studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria,and data were aggregated comparing overall survival and recurrence-free survival in HCC patients according to DM ***:The pooled hazard ratios (HRs) estimate for overall survival was 1.34 (95% CI,1.18-1.51;P48 (95% CI,1.00-2.18;P40;P=0.182).Meanwhile,the coexistence of DM impaired overall survival in HCC patients with a small tumor burden (HR=1.63;95% CI,1.25-2.12;P<0.0001).CONCLUSION:HCC patients with coexisting DM have a shorter survival time and a higher risk for tumor recurrence after curative treatments,while the precise value should be defined in more clinical trials with consistent methodology,especially prospective studies.

The optimal information feedback has a significant effect on many socioeconomic systems like stock market and traffic systems aiming to make full use of resources. In this paper, we study dynamics of traffic flow with real-time information. The influence of a feedback strategy named vehicle number feedback strategy (VNFS) is introduced, in which we only calculate the vehicle number of first 500 route sites from the entrance. Moreover, the two-route traffic system has only one entrance and one exit, which is different from those in the previous work. Our model incorporates the effects of adaptability into the cellular automaton models of traffic flow, and simulation results by adopting this optimal information feedback strategy have demonstrated higher efficiency in controlling spatial distribution of traffic patterns than the other three information feedback strategies, i.e., TTFS, MVFS and CCFS.

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease triggered by genetic, environment or other risk factors such as infection, drugs, stress, moisture, alcohol, and smoking. A major psoriasis susceptibility locus at 6p21.3 has been identified. Further studies found that HLA-DQA1*0201 allele was associated with psoriasis. However, there were few data exploring an association between the environmental factors and susceptibility genes. In this study, the samples of 189 patients with psoriasis and 333 healthy controls were collected with their consent and were carried on analysis through polymerase chain reaction sequence-specific primer (PCR- SSP) method. The proportion of male psoriasis patients engaging in the smoking and alcohol was much higher than that of the control group (P4.25, P6.91, P4).
