The thermodynamical properties of MgCl_2.in KCI-MgCl_2.LiCl molten electrolytes containing MgCl_2.below 0.5 (mole fraction, the same below) have been determined from the interchange energies of two binary systems KCI-MgCl_2.and LiCI-MgCl_2. by means of a model on the assumptions that the electrolytes in the solution are treated as independent particles instead of their ion forms and the interchange energy between the component pair KCI-LiCl is ignored when compared with those of component pairs KCl-MgCl_2.and MgCl_2.LiCl. The interchange energies, wKCl-MgCl_2.and wMgcCl_2.Licl, are obtained as-70000 and -13800 ***-1, from the corresponding binary solutions, respectively.

BACKGROUND:Pig islet xenotransplantation has the potential to overcome the shortage of donated human islets for islet cell transplantation in type 1 *** in nonhuman primate models is necessary before clinical application in *** islet transplantation in monkeys is usually performed by surgical infusion during laparotomy or *** this paper,we describe a new method of percutaneous transhepatic portal catheterization(PTPC) as an alternative to current methods of islet transplantation in rhesus ***:We performed ultrasound-guided PTPC in five adult rhesus monkeys weighing 7-8 kg,with portal vein catheterization confirmed by digital subtraction *** monitored for complications in the thoracic and abdominal *** evaluate the safety of ultrasound-guided PTPC,we recorded the changes in portal pressure throughout the microbead transplantation ***:Ultrasound-guided PTPC and infusion of 16 000 microbeads/kg body weight into the portal vein was successful in all five *** in the hepatobiliary anatomy of rhesus monkeys compared to humans led to a higher initial complication *** first monkey died of abdominal hemorrhage 10 hours *** second suffered from a mild pneumothorax but recovered fully after taking only conservative *** gaining experience with the first two monkeys,we decreased both the hepatic puncture time and the number of puncture attempts required,with the remaining three monkeys experiencing no *** pressures initially increased proportional to the number of transplanted microbeads but returned to preinfusion levels at 30 minutes *** changes in portal pressures occurring during the procedure were not significantly ***:Ultrasound-guided PTPC is an effective,convenient,and minimally invasive method suitable for use in non-human primate models of islet cell transplantation provided that ca

Aim:To investigate the effects of adenoviral gene transfer of IκBα mutant (IκBαM),a novel inhibitor of nuclear factor κB(NF-κB),on apoptosis,phenotype and func-tion of human monocyte-derived dendritic cells (DC).Methods:Monocytes,cocultured with granulocyte/macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF;900ng/mL) and interleukin (IL)-4 (300ng/mL) for 5d,followed by stimulation withlipopolysaccharide (LPS;100ng/mL) for 2. differentiated into mature ***-cytes were either left untransfected or were transfected with AdIκBαM or *** transcription and expression of the IκBαM gene,and the inhibitory effect ofIκBαM on tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-induced NF-κB activation in mature DCwere detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR),reverse transcription-poly-merase chain reaction (RT-PCR),Western blot analysis,and electrophoretic mobil-ity shift assays,*** phenotype,apoptosis,IL-12.secretion level ofDC,and ability to stimulate the proliferation of T cells were determined by flowcytometry,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and mixed leukocyte ***:PCR and RT-PCR were used to detect a unique 801 bp band in AdIκBαM-transfected mature DC,and also a dose-and time-dependent expression of theIκBαM gene,which peaked at a multiplicity of infection of 100pfu/cell and at ***,AdIκBαM significantly suppressed the TNF-α-induced NF-κBactivation,augmented apoptosis,downregulated CD80,CD83,and CD86 surfacemolecules,IL-12.secretion levels and the ability to stimulate the proliferation of Tcells in mature ***:AdIκBαM effectively transfected and potentlyinhibited NF-κB activation in monocyte-derived mature *** ofthe IκBαM gene in mature DC may contribute to T-cell immunosuppression throughinduction of DC apoptosis and downregulation of B7 molecules,providing a po-tential strategy for future DC-based immunotherapy of asthma.

The imaging theory of nonlinear second harmonic generation (SHG) and third harmonic generation (THG) in confocal microscopy is presented in this paper. The nonlinear effect of SHG and THG on the imaging properties of confocal microscopy has been analyzed in detail by the imaging theory. It is proved that the imaging process of SHG and THG in confocal microscopy, which is different from conventional coherent imaging or incoherent imaging, can be divided into two different processes of coherent imaging. The three-dimensional point spread functions (3D-PSF) of SHG and THG confocal microscopy are derived based on the nonlinear principles of SHG and THG. The imaging properties of SHG and THG confocal microscopy are discussed in detail according to its 3D-PSF. It is shown that the resolution of SHG and THG confocal microscopy is higher than that of single- and two-photon confocal microscopy.

Prediction of Superconductivity for Oxides Based on Structural Parameters and Artificial Neural Network Method

Superconductive properties for oxides were predicted by artificial neural network (ANN) method with structural and chemical parameters as inputs. The predicted properties include superconductivity for oxides, distributed ranges of the superconductive transition temperature (Tc) for complex oxides, and Tc values for cuprate superconductors. The calculated results indicated that the adjusted ANN can be used to predict superconductive properties for unknown oxides.

Effects of water phase concentration on the emulsion polymerization of polyaniline

The emulsion polymerization of aniline in three phase system of xylene functionalized protonic acid water was carried out using (NH 4) 2. 2. 4 as oxidant. The influences of water phase concentration on the viscosity, conductivity, transmittance of polyaniline(PAN) latex and its powders were studied. The results show that the properties of PAN prepared through the emulsion polymerization are influenced by the amount of water used in the polymerization. The morphology of PAN varies with the water phase concentration used in the polymerization, which may result in the change of properties of PAN latex and its powders. When the volume fraction of water (φ) is about 2.% 30%, the prepared PAN powder has higher conductivity, and the PAN latex has appropriate viscosity and particle size. The consumption of xylene was reduced at high φ value.
