A non-point source information system (NPSIS) has been constructed by use of remote sensing and GIS technology, and a construction method of NPSIS introduced with Shenzhen as an example. With the remote sensing land-using images as an environment unit, the analysis modules based on NPSIS are built through combining the NPS model with NPSIS, and the preliminary NPS calculation and analysis performed.

The authors evaluate a three-dimensional variational (3dVAR) system for the South china Sea (SCS) in this study. The assimilation method applied in the system takes into consideration error correlation along each ground track and uses recursive lter for optimiza- tion. Data from three R/V cruises during the spring and summer of 1998 and the summer of 2000 are used to evaluate the system. The root-mean-square error and bias are reduced signi cantly and when the altimeter data are assimilated, the distribution of the error is much closer to the Gaussian distribution. Precipitation and river discharge in the southwestern SCS are reproduced, and the variability of sea surface height is e ciently transferred to the subsurface. The 3dVAR system performs well for each of the three cruises, suggesting that it is steady for routine usage.

A kind of novel heat-resistant, high performance engineering thermoplastic phthalazinone poly(aryl ether sulfone ketone) (PPESK) containing a carboxyl group in its side chain was prepared by the nucleophilic displacement reaction of 4.(4.hydroxylphenyl)- 1 (2H)-phthalazinone with di(4.chlorophenyl) sulfone, 4.4.-difluoro-benzophenone and phenolphthalin in sulfolane in the presence of K2CO3 to produce high molecular weight polymers which can be dissolved in some polar solvents such as chloroform and nitrobenzene at room temperature and can be easily cast into flexible, yellowish and transparent films. PPESK is an amorphous polymer having a decomposition temperature above 4.0degreesC, which indicates that it has high thermal stability. At the same time, the thermal properties of PPESKs with dicyandiamide (DICY) as curing agent indicated that the heat-resistance properties of the PPESKs are improved after curing. The apparent activation energy (A-E) of the cross-linking reaction and the reaction order (n) of PPESK/DICY were found to be 52.2 kJ/mol and ca. 1.0, respectively. Therefore, the cross-linking reaction is approximately a first order reaction.

CTD temperature, salinity and ADCP current data, which were observed by R/V Shiyan No. 3 during the intensive observational period (IOP) of the South china Sea monsoon experiment (SCSMEX), have been analyzed. Some study results from observations at a mooring station located at the vicinity of continental slope off the south of Dongsha Islands are shown. The dynamic and thermody namic structures as wall as their changes are analyzed to describe the upper-ocean variation in the northern South china Sea during the summer monsoon onset and maintaining periods. The response of near surface water temperature, salinity and current to local sea surface winds is also discussed.

GOLD mineralization popularly occurs in Funiushan area. Based on the studies on more than 4. gold deposits or ore spots, it is shown that most of them are small in scale except the Pengou gold deposit, whichcan be developed into a medium one. The Pengou is a gold deposit of medium-low temperature hydrothermal type. 1 Geological setting The Funiushan gold mineralization zone lying in the contiguous region of Nanzhao, Fangcheng andLushan Counties, Henan Province, is stituated on the tectonic and geochemical boundary between theNorth china block and Qinling Orogenic belt, and transverses the two first-grade tectonic units. Thehost rocks are mainly the strata of Xionger group （Pt2 ） and the Funiushan granitic batholith. The Penggougold deposit is just located on the large-scale fault of Xiatang-Guihe. A series of metamorphic rocks ofXionger Group outcroped in the north of the deposit. 2 The features of deposit The ore bodies mostly appear in thick plate with sag-and-swell variation. The gold-bearing alterationzone from upper to lower layers can be divided as granite→ pyritization and phyllic alteration→ alteredgranitic porphyry→quartz vein→pyritization and phyllic alteration→cataclastic granite with phyllic alteration, i. e. the upper and lower gold-bearing layers can be separated by the altered granite. Kaolin deposits of weathering-residual type make up a large proportion in different types of kaolin depos-its and are widely used in ceramics, electron ceramics, rubber and paper industries. This paper discusses sys-tematically this type of kaolin deposit with respect to their features of occurrence, mineralogical and chemicalcomposition and transformation of minerals during supergene processes, thus providing some basic data forthe rational exploitation and utilization of the kaolin resources.

By using BCC_RegCM 1.0 (RegCM for short) from Beijing Climate Center (BCC), china Meteorological Administration (CMA), the Meiyu season characters over the Yangtze-Huaihe region during 1991-2005 are simulated. The major conclusions of this study may be summarized as the following: (1) RegCM can reproduce the interannual variation and the spatial distribution of the summertime precipitation and temperature in the Yangtze-Huaihe region. (2) By use of a generalized Meiyu criterion and in accordance with model-calculated precipitation and temperature, the Meiyu onset and ending date have been determined. Compared with the observation, RegCM can simulate the interannual variation of the Yangtze-Huaihe Meiyu with preferable capability for most of the normal Meiyu years (such as 1995, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004., especially for the rich Meiyu years of 1996, 1998 and 1999. (3) In terms of the average simulation for the recent 15 years, the timings of onset and ending of Meiyu occur on June 1 and July 13, respectively, which are earlier than the climatological observation. For duration, Meiyu persists for 32 d, 3 d shorter than the observation. The index of Meiyu intensity is 2.4., while the climatological one is 3.00. Therefore, RegCM is capable of simulating the climatological Meiyu duration and intensity, while the capability of simulating the onset and ending date of Meiyu still needs to be improved.

A gradient reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method using a C30 col-umn was developed for the simultaneous determination of astaxanthin, astaxanthin monoesters and astaxanthin diesters in the green algae Chlorococcum sp., Chlorella zofingiensis, Haematococcus plu-vialis and the mutant E1, which was obtained from the mutagenesis of H. pluvialis by exposure to UV-irradiation and ethyl methanesulphonate (EMS) with subsequent screening using nicotine. The re-sults showed that the contents of total astaxanthins including free astaxanthin and astaxanthin esters ranged from 1.4.to 30.9 mg/g dry biomass in these green algae. The lower total astaxanthin levels (16 mg/g dry biomass) were found in the green alga H. pluvialis and its mutant E1. It is notable that the mutant E1 is found to have considerably higher amounts of total astaxanthin (30.9 mg/g) as compared to the wild strain of H. pluvialis (16.1 mg/g). This indicates that UV-irradiation and EMS compound mutagenesis with subsequent screening using nicotine is an effective method for breeding of a high-producing astaxanthin strain of H. pluvialis. In addition, the green alga C. zofingien-sis had a remarkably higher percentage of astaxanthin diesters (76.3% of total astaxanthins) and a re-markably lower percentage of astaxanthin monoesters (18.0% of total astaxanthins) in comparison with H. pluvialis (35.5% for diesters and 60.9% for monoesters), the mutant E1 (4..1% and 4..1%) and Chlorococcum sp. (18.0% and 58.6%).
