fMRI time series analysis based on stationary wavelet and spectrum analysis

The low signal to noise ratio (SNR) of functional MRI (fMRI) prefers more sensitive data analysis methods. Based on stationary wavelet transform and spectrum analysis, a new method with high detective sensitivity was developed for analyzing fMRI time series, which does not require any prior assumption of the characteristics of noises. In the proposed method, every component of fMRI time series in the different time-frequency scales of stationary wavelet transform was discerned by the spectrum analysis, then the components from noises were removed using the stationary wavelet transform, finally the components of real brain activation were detected by cross-correlation analysis. The results obtained from both simulated and in vivo visual experiments illustrated that the proposed method has much higher sensitivity than the traditional cross-correlation method.

Reconstruction of genetic networks is one of the key scientific challenges in functional genomics. This paper describes a novel approach for addressing the regulatory dependencies be-tween genes whose activities can be delayed by multiple units of time. The aim of the proposed ap-proach termed TdGRN (time-delayed gene regulatory networking) is to reversely engineer the dy-namic mechanisms of gene regulations, which is realized by identifying the time-delayed gene regu-lations through supervised decision-tree analysis of the newly designed time-delayed gene expres-sion matrix, derived from the original time-series microarray data. A permutation technique is used to determine the statistical classification threshold of a tree, from which a gene regulatory rule(s) is ex-tracted. The proposed TdGRN is a model-free approach that attempts to learn the underlying regula-tory rules without relying on any model assumptions. Compared with model-based approaches, it has several significant advantages: it requires neither any arbitrary threshold for discretization of gene transcriptional values nor the definition of the number of regulators (k). We have applied this novel method to the publicly available data for budding yeast cell cycling. The numerical results demonstrate that most of the identified time-delayed gene regulations have current biological knowledge supports.

The continental volcanic rocks and volcaniclas-tic sedimentary conglomerates of the Cangshuipu Formation occur well in Yiyang of Hunan Province, consisting of a wedge-shaped succession of Neoproterozoic strata that over-lie with high-angle unconformity the flysch turbidites of the Lengjiaxi Group in the Upper Mesoproterozoic Eonothem. SHRIMP zircon U-Pb dating gives a weighted mean age of 814. 12 Ma for the dacitic volcanic agglomerates from the lowest part of the volcanic rocks in the Cangshuipu Forma-tion. This age is younger than previously reported values of 921—933 Ma for the volcanic rocks from the Cangshuipu Formation. Our new dating represents the lower boundary age of the Neoproterozoic System in the studied area. The younger age for the Cangshuipu volcanic rocks is supported by the following observations: （1） Lower Neoproterozoic strata （814.1000 Ma） are missing in the studied area; （2） the Nanhua rift system was initiated at about 820 Ma; and （3） an age of820 Ma may be taken as the lower boundary tim-ing of the Nanhua System （even Neoproterozoic） in South China.

A possible mode of the specific recognition of nucleic acids by proteins

Seven sets of protein target sites, which occur in several gene promoters, have been analyzed. The results suggest that there is a possible mode of specific recognition of double-helical nucleic acids by proteins. This recognition mode is related to a special topological property of double-helical DNA, which is termed base spatial pattern (BSP) of DNA segment. BSP is the spatial topological property determined only by the spatial arrangement of the bases on double-helical DNA segment.

The developments of medicine always follow innovations in science and *** the past decade,such innovations have made cancer-related targeted therapies *** general,the term "targeted therapy" has been used in reference to cellular and molecular level oriented ***,improvements in the delivery and planning of traditional radiation therapy have also provided cancer patients more options for "targeted" treatment,notably stereotactic radiosurgery(SRS) and stereotactic body radiotherapy(SBRT).In this review,the progress and controversies of SRS and SBRT are discussed to show the role of stereotactic radiation therapy in the ever evolving multidisciplinary care of cancer patients.

Based on the daily outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) data from National Oceanic and At- mospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites, the Cli- mate Prediction Center’s merged analysis of pre- cipitation (CMAP) data and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction/National Center for At- mospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR) reanalysis dataset, the mean intraseasonal variability of the Asian summer monsoon (ASM) is investigated by using power spectrum analysis, band-pass filter, and diagnostic analyses. The processes of the onset and advance of monsoon over the southern part of Indo- china Peninsula, the east coast of Bay of Bengal, the South China Sea and the Indian subcontinent are explored. It is found that there is an abrupt change in OLR, precipitation and zonal wind during the onset and advance of the ASM. It is also indicated that the southern part of Indochina Peninsula and the adja- cent Andaman Sea is the region where the earliest onset of the ASM occurs in the 2nd pentad of May.

Removal of Volatile Organic Compounds by Adsorption and Photocatalytic Oxydation

Based on the study of equilibrium adsorption on viscose rayon-based activated carbon fiber （ACF） by gravimetric method, mounting of TiO2 on PAN-based activated carbon cloth （ACC） and their photocatalytic activity as well as adsorption performance for benzene were investigated. The crystallinity of TiO2 and pore structure were characterized by XRD and N2 adsorption. The results show that crystallinity of TiO2 and pore structure could be postulated by heat treatment condition. Both crystallinity of TiO2 and pore structure of hybrid have effects on photocatalytic performance of TiO2-mounted ACC. It would be more attractive and prospective for the combination of TiO2 photocatalytic activity and adsorption ability of porous materials.

Mass spectrometry analysis of melanoma related O-glycans in sera

Glycomics comparison was carried out by screening melanoma serum biomarkers between C57 mice with and without B16 implanted. O-glycans were released from 10 μL sera by β-elimination, purified by Graphitized Carbon Cartridge Solid Phase Extraction (GCC-SPE) and analyzed by MALDI-QIT-TOF-MS. MS raw data were acquired and exported by Launchpad software. MATLAB was then applied for further data analysis. 10 Glycans were considered to have stable changes after B16 implantation and 5 of them were under structural analysis via MS/MS.
