Domestic and international literatures in economic geography in recent years showthat the disciplinary status of regional economic geography remains steay. Domesticliteratures prefer regional comprehensive development than that of international in theapplication fields. The process of establishing theoretical system with Chinese characteristocscontinues and has made some progress. The economic regions element theory, developmenttheory and management theory have been added to the already existed theory system. Theconstruction of comprehensive and integrated methodology system has initiated.

Pudong New Area of Shanghai, as areform and opening front of china, holds the balancein economic development of Yangtze Delta and evenof china. After a large-scale infrastructure andfunction development in the past decade, it hasbecome "the miniature of modernization constructionin Shanghai" and "the symbol of reform and openingin china". But, due to the rapid urbanization andassociated environmental issues, rivers in the studiedarea remain seriously polluted and are alsodiminishing. Consequently this damages the featuresof the water village and investment setting in thePudong New Area. On the basis of analyzing the aerophotographs (1989, 1994.and 1999) and land usedata by Remote Sensing and Geographic InformationSystem, this paper illustrated that: 1) The river densityof the studied area has declined by 1/3 from 1989to 1999; 2) Since the development and opening oPudong, the river system has experienced twodeclining phases: rapid declining (1989-1994. andslow declining (1994.1999); 3) The fast urbanizationof land-use is a primary threat to the river systemwhich is particularly prominent within the Inner BelWay and in the developed zone of Pudong area.

In order to minimize uncertainty of the inversed parameters to the largest extent by making full use of the limited information in remote sensing data, it is necessary to understand what the information flow in quantitative remote sensing model inversion is, thus control the information flow. Aiming at this, the paper takes the linear kernel-driven model inversion as an example. At first, the information flow in different inversion methods is calculated and analyzed, then the effect of information flow controlled by multi-stage inversion strategy is studied, finally, an information matrix based on USM is defined to control information flow in inversion. It shows that using Shannon entropy decrease of the inversed parameters can express information flow more properly. Changing the weight of a priori knowledge in inversion or fixing parameters and partitioning datasets in multi-stage inversion strategy can control information flow. In regularization inversion of remote sensing, information matrix based on USM may be a better tool for quantitatively controlling information flow.

From 1979 to 1989, the current Qingshuigou course of the Huanghe River formed a sub - delta which resembles a beak extending into the Laizhou Bay. It covers 618 km2 in area. To meet the needs of developing and constructing the Huanghe River Delta and under the presupposition of keeping the current course for 15-20 a, we forecast mainly by using the OM (1, 1) model that the front border of the sub-delta will be close to 119°30'E and its area will become 923 km2by the end of the year 2000. The Huanghe River will make land 760 km2 in area.

Strategic environmental assessment (SEA) in china has developed rapidly since it was introduced into china in the 1990s. Chinese government promulgated the Environmental Impact Assessment Law of china (hereinafter referred to as the EIA Law) in 2002. In this law, it is stipulated clearly that regional and sector plans should be assessed. Through investigating materials and analyzing literatures, this article analyses the practical and academic study achievements of SEA in china that have been achieved since the EIA Law was implemented, probes into the current situation of the main level of SEA in china-plan EIA, then summarizes the development characteristics, and eventually, puts forward the development trends of SEA in china. The research conclusions can offer the foundations for comprehending systematically the progress of SEA in china.

Based on the data of historical geography, the analysis of the stratigraphic section, and the textual research of place names and satellite photographic interpretations, the authors study the formation and evolution of ancient lakes on the south coast plain of Laizhou Bay where there were once three lakes: Judian Lake, Qingshuibo Lake and Biehua Lake. All the lakes formed 6000 years ago evolved from the lagoons near the estuary and went through two periods, the golden age in the Middle Holocene and the shrinking age in the Late Holocene. The disappearance of the lakes resulted from the drying climate, the migration of the river courses and the activities of human beings. Among the three reasons, the migration of the river courses is the main one.

A reliable geological model plays a fundamental role in the efficiency and safety of mountain tunnel ***,regional models based on limited survey data represent macroscopic geological environments but not detailed internal geological characteristics,especially at tunnel portals with complex geological *** paper presents a comprehensive methodological framework for refined modeling of the tunnel surrounding rock and subsequent mechanics analysis,with a particular focus on natural space distortion of hard-soft rock interfaces at tunnel *** progressive prediction of geological structures is developed considering multi-source data derived from the tunnel survey and excavation *** improve the accuracy of the models,a novel modeling method is proposed to integrate multi-source and multi-scale data based on data extraction and potential field ***,a regional-scale model and an engineering-scale model are built,providing a clear insight into geological phenomena and supporting numerical *** addition,the proposed framework is applied to a case study,the Long-tou mountain tunnel project in Guangzhou,china,where the dominant rock type is *** results show that the data integration and modeling methods effectively improve model structure *** improved model’s calculation deviation is reduced by about 10%to 20%in the mechanical *** study contributes to revealing the complex geological environment with singular interfaces and promoting the safety and performance of mountain tunneling.

Between April 2002 and April 2003,in situ measurements of water depth,current velocity and suspended sediment content were carried out in edge region of East Chongming salt marsh and neighboring bald flat in the Changjiang （Yangtze） Estuary under different weather ***-shore suspended sediment flux was calculated and *** results show that under calm weather conditions,the current velocity process in bald field and salt marsh area varied differently during semidiurnal tidal *** to current velocity asymmetry,mean SSC during flood tide phase was 1.8 times higher than that of ebb tide *** a result,net onshore sediment flux controlled cross-shore suspended sediment transport process and salt marsh pioneer zone was generally *** was significant positive correlation between total sediment flux and quartic power of maximum water *** indicates that tidal ranges dominate suspended sediment transport and sedimentation process in the salt marsh pioneer zone under the calm weather *** sedimentation rate on the adjacent mudflat was higher than the salt marsh,which induced stable accreting of salt marsh towards the *** wind events enhanced SSC and current velocity during the semidiurnal *** the remarkable onshore net sediment flux could occur on the high marsh and mudflat close to the marsh fringe during the short period under the rough weather condition.
