Gradient analysis of landscape spatial and temporal pattern changes in Beijing metropolitan area

The gradient based landscape metrics analysis is now widely used to study the landscape pattern changes in respond to the *** order to discover the trend of spatio-temporal changes in Beijing metropolitan area during the past 15 years,several landscape metrics are computed using a moving window along a 96 km long transect across Beijing metropolitan area from west to ***,the spatial extent of sub-landscape,which is determined by the moving window’s size,is profoundly *** results show that the metrics varies smoothly and regularly along the selected transect when the window size is greater than 6 km×6 km,and irregularly fluctuated for the smaller window size,that the spatial and temporal landscape characteristics of Beijing city match the hypothetical framework of spatio-temporal urban sprawl in the form of alternating processes of diffusion and coalescence well,and that some new trends of the urban sprawl style in Beijing metropolitan area,such as leap-frog manner,are also detected by the gradient landscape analysis.

In hydraulic engineering, sometimes it is necessary to consider the stability of sliding bodies with lateral frictional boundaries. Neither the existing three dimensional limit equilibrium methods nor the commercial software products are able to treat such situations. The three dimensional factor of safety is accordingly underestimated; while the shearing strength based on the three dimensional back analysis is overestimated. In this study, the lateral boundaries are regarded as the part of the slip surface. Based on the expression of the normal pressure on the slip surface and the patch interpolation, a rigorous solution for the three dimensional limit equilibrium analysis is realized. Meanwhile, the proposed procedure is applied to the stability analysis of the slope with a cable platform on the right bank in Da Gang Shan hydraulic project under construction.

In order to improve the quality of remote sensing image fusion,a new method combining nonsubsampled Laplacian pyramid (NLP)and bidimensional empirical mode decomposition(BEMD)is ***,the high resolution panchromatic image (PAN)is decomposed using NLP until the approximate component and the low resolution multispectral image(MS)contain features with a similar ***,the approximation component and the MS are decomposed by BEMD,resulting in a number of bidimensional intrinsic mode functions(BIMF)and a residue *** instantaneous frequency is computed in 4.directions of the *** the positive or negative coefficients in the corresponding position,a weighted algorithm is designed for fusing the high frequency details using the instantaneous frequency and the coefficient absolute value of the BIMFs as fusion *** fused image is then obtained through inverse BEMD and *** results have illustrated the advantage of this method over the IHS,DWT andà-Trous wavelet in both spectral and spatial detail qualities.

Building Distributed Web GIS: A Mobile Agent Based Approach

The diversity of GISs and the wide spread availability of WWW have led to an increasing amount of research on integrating a variety of heterogeneous and autonomous GISs in a cooperative environment to construct a new generation of GIS characterizing in open architecture, distributed computation, interoperability, and extensibility. Our on going research project MADGIS (Mobile Agent based Distributed Geographic Information System) is reported, in which we propose the architecture of MADGIS to meet the requirements of integrating distributed GIS applications under Internet environment. We first describe the architecture of MADGIS, and detailed discussions focusing on the structure of client site, server site and mobile agent in MADGIS. Then we explore key techniques for MADGIS implementation.

This paper focuses on Distributed Object Oriented software engineering over Internet, which is a way to build software culture. We believe that our work will contribute to better understanding of how to meet the needs of the big potential software market and to promote the software industry in developing country. The United states and Western Europe have well established software industry and related civilization. software science, technology, and engineering are needed in China; however, maybe what is needed, first of all, is software civilization, including software ideas, customs, skills, arts, etc. We will draw a framework for the software culture as following: software is the most important commodity in this age; Brilliance of hardware component era has become past fact; A software component era is ahead; Traditional linear process model is obsolete; Modern software engineering has a new face, object evolution model; Distributed object oriented software engineering over Internet is an approach to software component era; and Complete software civilization will be formed all over the world in next century.

Large earthquakes cause observable changes in the Earth’s gravity field, which have been detected by the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE). Since most previous studies focus on the detection of near-field gravity effects, this study provides the results from the medium- to far-field gravity changes caused by the 2004.Sumatra-Andaman earthquake that are recorded within GRACE monthly solutions. Utilizing a spherical-earth dislocation model we documented that large-scale signals predominate in the global field of the coseismic gravity changes caused by the earthquake. After removing the near-field effects, the coseismic gravity changes show a negative anomaly feature with an average magnitude of -0.18×10-8 m·s-2 in the region ranging ～4.° from the epicenter, which is considered as the 'medium ffield' in this study. From the GRACE data released by Center for Space Research from August 2002 to December 2008, we retrieved the large-scale gravity changes smoothed with 3.000 km Gaussian ffilter. The results show that the coseismic gravity changes detected by GRACE in the medium field have an average of (-0.20±0.06)×10-8 m·s-2, which agrees with the model prediction. The detection confirms that GRACE is sensitive to large-scale medium-field coseismic gravitational effects of mega earthquakes, and also validates the spherical-earth dislocation model in the medium field from the perspective of satellite gravimetry.

Hierarchical Classification of Chinese Documents Based on N grams

We explore the techniques of utilizing N gram information to categorize Chinese text documents hierarchically so that the classifier can shake off the burden of large dictionaries and complex segmentation processing, and subsequently be domain and time independent. A hierarchical Chinese text classifier is implemented. Experimental results show that hierarchically classifying Chinese text documents based N grams can achieve satisfactory performance and outperforms the other traditional Chinese text classifiers.
