Leukemia is a group of heterozygous diseases of hematopoietic stem/progenitorcells that involves dynamic change in the *** of genetic abnor-malities critical to leukemia initiation provides insights into the elusiveleukemogenesis,identifies distinct subsets of leukemia and predicts prognosisindividually,and can also provide rational therapeutic targets for *** past three decades have seen tremendous advances in theanalysis of genotype-phenotype connection of leukemia,and in the identifica-tion of molecular biomarkers for leukemia ***,differentiationtherapy,targeted therapy and chemotherapy have turned several subtypes ofleukemia from highly fatal to highly *** use of all-trans retinoic acid andarsenic trioxide,which trigger degradation of PML-RARα,the causative fusionprotein generated by t (15;17) translocation in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL),has led to a dramatic improvement of APL clinical outcome,lmatinib mesylate/Gleevec/STI571,which inhibits the tyrosine kinase activity of BCR-ABLoncoprotein,has now become the new gold standard for the treatmtent of chronicmyeloid *** use of chemotherapeutic agents together with a strin-gent application of prognostic factors for risk-directed therapy in clinical trialshas resulted in a steady improvement in the treatment outcome of acute lympho-blastic ***,the pace of progress extrapolates to a prediction ofleukemia control in the twenty-first century.

Discovery of Permian island-arc basalts in the Cenxi area and the tectonic significance──A piece of evidence for the paleo-Tethyan tectonic belt in western Guangdong and eastern Guangxi

Cenxi Permian basalts are the late Palaeozoic island-arc type basalts first found in South China. REE and trace element characteristics and distribution patterns show that this volcanic formation, which has been isotopically dated at 261 MaB.P. by the 39Ar/ 4.Ar method, is of an active continental marginal island arc type, and that the tectonic environment at that time was an island-arc marginal sea or minor ocean basin related with the paleo-Tethyan tectonic belt in western Guangdong-eastern Guangxi.

Re-examining the reliability of tree-ring isotope ratio as a historical CO_2 proxy

To examine the reliability of using tree ring δ13C and the model of isotopic fractionation in reconstructing atmospheric CO2 levels, we studied the variations of some important parameters of several subtropical species under natural field conditions. It was found that, different from other researchers’ results, leaf conductance to CO2 transfer, g, did not change in proportion to the change in rate of CO2 assimilation, A, with the result that intercellular concentration of CO2, Ci, could not keep constant. Thus, we conclude that the use of tree-ring isotope ratios in the reconstruction of atmospheric CO2 variation based on the presupposition that Ci keeps constant during assimilation is not reliable under current circumstances.

Determination of paleo-pressure for a natural gas pool formation based on PVT characteristics of fluid inclusions in reservoir rocks——A case study of Upper-Paleozoic deep basin gas trap of the Ordos Basin

It has been proved to be a difficult problem to determine directly trapping pressure of fluid inclusions. Recently, PVT simulation softwares have been applied to simulating the trapping pressure of petroleum inclusions in reservoir rocks, but the reported methods have many limita- tions in practice. In this paper, a method is suggested to calculating the trapping pressure and temperature of fluid inclusions by combining the isochore equations of a gas-bearing aqueous inclusion with its coeval petroleum inclusions. A case study was conducted by this method for fluid inclusions occurring in the Upper-Paleozoic Shanxi Formation reservoir sandstones from the Ordos Basin. The results show that the trapping pressure of these inclusions ranges from 21 to 32 MPa, which is 6─7 MPa higher than their minimum trapping pressure although the trapping temperature is only 2─3℃ higher than the homogenization temperature. The trapping pressure and temperature of the fluid inclusions decrease from southern area to northern area of the basin. The trapping pressure is obviously lower than the state water pressures when the inclusions formed. These data are consistent with the regional geological and geochemical conditions of the basin when the deep basin gas trap formed.

Tectariaceae are a pantropical fern family of about 20 genera, among which 8 are distributed in China. The morphological distinctiveness of the family is widely recognized, yet relatively little systematic research has been conducted on members of Tectariaceae. Phylogenetic analyses of chloroplast DNA sequence data (rbcL; atpB) from 15 species representing all 8 genera in China were carried out under parsimony criteria; Bayesian inference. The phylogenetic reconstructions indicated that the fern family Tectariaceae as traditionally circumscribed are polyphyletic. Ctenitis, Dryopsis, Lastreopsis clustered with; should be included within the newly-defined Dryopteridaceae,; Pleocnemia is also tentatively assigned to it. A narrowly monophyletic Tectariaceae is identified, which includes Ctenitopsis, Hemigramma, Pteridrys, Quercifilix,; Tectaria. In the single rbcL analysis, Arthropteris clustered with the above-mentioned monophyletic Tectariaceae. Although further investigations are still needed to identify infrafamilial relationships within the monophyletic Tectariaceae; to redefine several problematic genera, we propose a working concept here that better reflects the inferred evolutionary history of this group.

On biogeomorphology of Luhuitou fringing reef of Sanya City,Hainan Island,China

Based on comprehensive survey of 6 transects on Luhuitou fringing reef in Sanya City of Hainan Island, China, some features of its biogeomorphologic processes were found, including ( i ) three basic biogeomorphologic units: inner reef flat, outer reef flat and reef slope; (ii) two important biogeomorphologic boundary lines: up limit for live flat coral growing between inner and outer reef flats is Mean Lower Low Water of tropic tide±15 cm; the break in slope between reef flat and reef slope is Theoretical Lowest Tide ±15 cm; (iii) three types of reef flat profiles in response to distinctive Holocene sea level changes and dynamic condition: Luhuitou type responds to falling sea level and low wave energy; Xiaodonghai type to falling sea sevel and high wave energy; type for atolls of Nansha Islands to stable sea level and low wave energy; (iv) hermatypic coral community is the most essential member in coral reef ecosystem and plays the most important role in biogeomorphologic process. Mineralization of sediment-hosted ore deposits in reef-chert suite in China

THE reef-chert suite, named by Chen, mainly consists of four types of rocks, with reef carbonate in thelower part, fine detrital rocks in the upper part, chert beds with ore bodies in the intermediate, and synchronous volcanic rocks either in this sequence or in the same sequence in the neighboring district. It isformed as a fixed and ordered suite in space and time, and is the comprehensive product of normal sedimentary process, biological process in extensional basin, hydrothermal sedimentary process near basinbase and magmatic process in the deep of lithosphere in the special geological setting. The non-point source (NFS) information system based on remote sensing and GIS and its preliminary application

A non-point source information system (NPSIS) has been constructed by use of remote sensing and GIS technology, and a construction method of NPSIS introduced with Shenzhen as an example. With the remote sensing land-using images as an environment unit, the analysis modules based on NPSIS are built through combining the NPS model with NPSIS, and the preliminary NPS calculation and analysis performed.

Impact on the tropical cyclone "Vongfong" forecast using the QuikSCAT wind data

Since QuikSCAT is available in cloudy and rainy condition, its wind data are valuable in monitoring and real time forecasting the wind field, especially in sparse genesis regions of tropical cyclones. In order to understand and investigate the impact of QuikSCAT wind data, the three-dimensional variational data assimilation (3D-VAR) of scatterometric wind data has been employed for the tropical cyclone 'Vongfong' in the year 2002. The result shows that the QuikSCAT wind data have positive impact on the analysis and forecasting. But the positive impact is slight. The present results suggest that how to assimilate QuikSCAT wind data effectively is important and will be a challenge to meteorologists.
