Aragonite from Mulanshan Glaucophane Schist: Implications for Regional Evolution of Southwestern Dabie Mountains, Central china

The aragonite, an index mineral of glaucophane schist facies, has not been confirmed in the Dabie Mountains high pressure and ultrahigh pressure metamorphic belts. The Mulanshan glaucophane schist in Huangpi County, Hubei Province is located in the southwestern Dabie Mountains, Central china. The micron sized intergranular aragonite is confirmed with optical microscope (OM) and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) in the glaucophane schist. The submicrometer sized ellipse aragonite inclusion is observed by using bright field image (BFI), X ray energy damage spectrograph (EDS) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) with transmission electron microscope in the quartz lens of glaucophane albite epidote chlorite schist from Mulanshan. The presence of aragonite indicates not only the average geothermal gradient of the Mulanshan glaucophane schist less than 10 ℃/km, which is very close to that of eclogite in the Dabie Mountains metamorphic belts, but also the relatively higher concentration of CO2 during the metamorphic process. In addition, the glaucophane schist free of such index minerals as lawsonite, prehnite and pumpellyite, has been attributed to the effect of CO2 on the stability of calcium aluminum silicate minerals during the low grade metamorphism. EDS and SAED analysis results show that the host of aragonite inclusion is amorphous SiO2. The occurrence of amorphous SiO2 indicates a quick cooling process during the exhumation of the Mulanshan glaucophane schist. These results suggest that the rapid exhumation mechanism of the glaucophane schist, the same as that of eclogite in the Dabie Mountains metamorphic belts, occurred in the geodynamic context of subduction obduction.

Fuzzy cluster analysis of the provenance of ancient Yaozhou porcelain body

The technique of neutron activation analysis (NAA) has been employed to measure the content of 29 kinds of elements in the sample of Yaozhou porcelain bodies. Then a fuzzy cluster analysis has been conducted to the NAA data and a diagram of the dynamic fuzzy cluster analysis has been achieved. The results indicate that the batch of ancient Yaozhou porcelain bodies, which were of different overglaze color and were produced by different kilns during a period of over 800 years from the Tang Dynasty (618—907 A.D.) to the Yuan Dynasty (1271—13.8 A.D.), has shared a stable and concentrated raw material source. Provenances of por-celain bodies from different times, though having their spe-cific independence, enjoy a close relationship and are not far from one another. Provenances of porcelain bodies made during the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties (907—960 A.D.) are found to be closer to one another, while those of the Song (960—1279 A.D.) and the Jin Dynasty (1115—123.1}A.D.) are comparatively concentrated in certain areas and are dif-ferent from those of the Tang Dynasty. Both the tri-colored glazed pottery made in Yaozhou kilns during the Tang Dy-nasty and the Yaozhou porcelain bodies of the Tang period are from the same provenance.

New development of materials used in BFCs

Electrodes,catalysts,membranes,if present,are three main components in constructing an MFC for harvesting desired maximum power density and achieving higher coulombic efficiency (CE).Great improvements have been made,based on previous researches,in developing and diversifying materials,aside from *** most familiar to us are widely used carbon *** anodes,carbon matrix composites(e.g.,a combination of polyaniline(PANI)with TiO2 using carbon as substrate)have gained special attention,though carbon material itself can exhibit excellent performance by diversifying molecular structures such as carbon nanotubes(CNTs).In the meanwhile,the evolution of MFC architectures,heading to the direction of improving power generation,contributes to the combination of membranes and cathodes from separate modes to diverse assemblies,on which all sorts of catalysts,such as from commonly used Pt to iron phthalocyanine (Pc),metal tetramethoxyphenylporphyrin(TMPP),MnOx,or pyrolyzed iron(Ⅱ)phthalocyanine (pyr-FePc),can be immobilized through synthesis of these catalysts with polymer such as Nafion 117 (Dupont Co.,USA)or tetrafluoroethylen(eTeflon)containing functional groups or Polypyrrol(ePPy).In addition,catholytes with aqueous cathode immersed or flowing through the surface of air-cathode are favorably proposed containing transition metal redox couples or iron chelates.

Granulite Genesis and Tectonic Evolution in Tongbai Area:Single Zircon Evaporation Ages and Nd Isotopic Geochemistry

According to the age measurements of single zircon evaporation method, combined with the study of Nd isotopic geochemistry in Tongbai area, the protolith age of basic granulites is about 1 010 Ma; the protolith age of intermediate acid granulites is probably more than 904.Ma, which is close to the age of the basic granulites. The basic granulites would be the nature occurrence of basic magma underplating beneath the base of lower crust in the North Qinling crustal vertical growth event at about 1 000 Ma. However, the intermediate acid granulites were the result of the mixing fusion between the lower crust material and the underplating basic magma, which shows a strong crust mantle interaction. The 4.0-4.0 Ma are the peak metamorphic ages of the basic and intermediate acid granulites, which related to the crust bi direction shortening and crust thickening due to the Erlangping back arc basin southward subduction and the paleo Qinling oceanic plate northward subduction.

Heterogeneous transition dynamic equations and the self-organized origin of the nesting rhythmic beddings in Panzhihua lithosomes

Dynamic equations were developed for heterogeneous phase-transition in a system of coupled nucleation, growth and ripening. Based on these equations, a self-organized origin of small-scale nesting rhythmic beddings in Pahzhihua lithosomes was investigated and the results showed that the beddings could be formed by the cross supersaturated nucleation-crystallization of augite and feldspar successively. This process could be implemented by coupling with supersaturated nucleation, Ostwald ripening, component diffusion and the primary grain diffusion under a proper temperature gradient. The slightly intensive supersaturated nucleation and Ostwald ripening occurring in Panzhihua lithosomes may relate closely to the mineral components such as V-Ti-Maanetite.

Deposition features of Ni on self-assembled microtubule template from biolipid by electroless method

Diacetylenic glycero-phosphatidylcholine is a chiral molecule with amphiphilic property, and it can self-assembly into a lipid microtubular structure. The lipid microtubule is a stable structure formed by tightly wound helical ribbons, and the ribbon-wrapping patterns have a significant effect on their chemical deposition on the microtubules. The deposition of colloidal Pd catalyst occurs mainly on the helical edge of the wound helical ribbons to form helical deposition lines of colloidal Pd particles in the interior and exterior of the lipid microtubules, resulting in an uneven chemical deposition of Ni on the microtubules. Catalyzed by as-deposited colloidal Pd, metallized Ni microtubules are characterized by a helical form, which may be in relation to inner stress due to the thickness difference or the different deposition processes. The observation of microtom shows that metallized tubules have a hollow structure. Some metallized tubules have a kind of coaxial double layer structure observed in the direct experiment evidence, indicating that metallization can occur in the inner and outer surface of the lipid tubules. Both lipid microtubules and metallized microtubules can be used as vehicles for encapsulating biological active molecules to control their release and to develop micro-components in biological and mechanical systems. Self-assembly of polystyrene spheres guided by patterned n-type InP substrates has been investigated. InP surfaces were patterned using a variety of methods including wet chemical etching,sputter coating,thermal evaporation,and photo lithography. The self-assembly of polystyrene spheres depended on the appearance of patterns and was affected by the deposition techniques (sputter coating and thermal evaporation) of Au micro-squares. SEM and AFM were used to characterize the surface morphologies.

The high-dense nanocrystalline BaTiO3.BT)ceramics with grain size smaller than 100nm have been successfully prepared by the two step sintering and the spark plasma sintering(SPS)*** successive transitions in nanograin BT ceramics from rhombohedral to orthorhombic,tetragonal and cubic transitions,similar to those in coarse BT ceramics,were revealed by in-situ temperature dependent Raman *** multiphase coexistence and the diffused phase transition character were demonstrated in the 8nm nanocrystalline BT ceramics.
