Quaternary palynology plays a pivotal role in investigating global climate change and various other research fields,serving as an essential tool for the quantitative analysis of paleoenvironment ***,due to the vast diversity of terrestrial ecosystems and intricate interactions between vegetation,climate,and human activities,further advancements are required in the following aspects within this discipline.(1)The accuracy of classification in pollen morphology and fossil pollen identification needs improvement,particularly at the species *** represents a significant challenge in present Quaternary ***-aided intelligent recognition holds promise as a solution for species identification based on more detail pollen morphology.(2)Most pollen-based vegetation and climate reconstructions overlook the significance of bare *** bare ground can lead to substantial inaccuracies when quantitatively reconstructing past vegetation and climate.(3)While pollen records provide reliable information on paleoclimate changes,current quantitative climate reconstruction models heavily rely on modern pollen datasets derived from present-day vegetation disturbed more or less by human *** introduces bias and uncertainties into paleoclimate reconstruction.(4.Although pollen can serve as an indicator of human activities,accurately quantifying the intensity of human influence remains *** accurate identification of crop pollen,reconstructing reliable land cover/use data,and integrating multidisciplinary data may enhance the identification and quantification of signals related to human activity in pollen records.

Geomorphologic evidence of phased uplift of the northeastern qinghai-Tibet Plateau since 14.million years ago

A typical sequence of fluvial terraces and aeolian deposits overlying these ter- races were multidisciplinary investigated. New evidences for uplift process of the northeastern qinghai-Tibetan Plateau in the past 14.million years were obtained. At least 11 river terraces along Huangshui, the first-class tributary of Yellow River, at the xining-Huzhu region are identi- fied. While the first one (T1) is classified as an accumulation terrace, the others are all basement river terraces, which consist of the Tertiary sandstone and siltstone bedrock, fluvial gravel and pebbles and the overlying aeolian loess-Red Clay deposit. Samples from the aeolian deposits were examined for paleomagnetic stratigraphic reconstruction (1030 samples), luminescence dating (16 samples), magnetic susceptibility and grain-size distribution (more than 4.00 sam- ples). The luminescence dating and stratigraphic correlation suggest that terraces of Tll, T10, T8, T7, T3, T2, T1 were formed at 14. 11.3, 1.55, 1.2, 0.15, 0.07 and 0.01 million years ago, re- spectively. Sedimentological analysis and geomorphological observation indicate that formation and evolution of these terraces were mainly driven by tectonic uplift. Therefore, the terrace se- quence provides an ideal geological record, of the uplift process of the northeastern during the past 14.million years, and the timings of the terraces formation are regarded as the timings of tectonic uplift. The significant uplifting events took place at 14. 11.3, 1.2 and 0.15 mil- lion years ago, respectively. The fluvial incision at the xining-Huzhu region is less than 100 m during a period of ~12.million years in the Miocene era (between the Tll and T9), while the Huangshui River had incised 4.2 m during the past 1.2 million years (from T7 to the present floodplain). The river incision process clearly demonstrates that accelerated rising of the north- eastern qinghai-Tibet Plateau during the late Cenozoic, and provides new evidence of previous thoughts

Cooperation between single atom catalyst and support to promote nitrogen electroreduction to ammonia:A theoretical insight

The co-catalysis between single atom catalyst(SAC)and its support has recently emerged as a promising strategy to synergistically boost the catalytic activity of some complex electrochemical reactions,encompassing multiple intermediates and ***,we utilized defective BC_(3)monolayer-supported SACs as a prototype to investigate the cooperative effects of SACs and their support on the catalytic performance of the nitrogen reduction reaction(NRR)for ammonia(NH_(3))*** results showed that these SACs can be firmly stabilized on these defective BC_(3)supports with high stability against ***,co-activation of the inert N_(2)reactant was observed in certain embedded SACs and their neighboring B atoms on certain BC3 sheets due to the noticeable charge transfer and significant N–N bond *** high-throughput screening revealed that the Mo/DV_(CC)and W/DV_(CC)exhibit superior NRR catalytic performance,characterized by a low limiting potential of−0.33 and−0.4. V,respectively,which can be further increased under acid conditions based on the constant potential ***,varying NRR catalytic activities can be attributed to the differences in the valence state of active ***,further microkinetic modeling analysis displayed that the turnover frequency of N_(2)–to–NH_(3)conversion on Mo/DV_(CC)is as large as 1.20×10^(−3)s^(−1)site^(−1) at 700 K and 100 bar,thus guaranteeing its ultra-fast reaction *** results not only suggest promising advanced electrocatalysts for NRR but also offer an effective avenue to regulate the electrocatalytic performance via the co-catalytic metal–support interactions.

The Red Earth deposit around xining, northeastern Tibetan Plateau, has beenstudied in terms of soil micro-structure, grain-size distribution, major- and trace-elementchemistry and magne-tostratigraphy. Field investigations indicate that the Red Earth sequenceconsists of 25 visually definable yellow-brown and weakly-developed soils interbedded with reddishstrongly-developed soils, and has a similar structure to the aeolian Red Clay deposit on the ChineseLoess Plateau. Grain-size analysis shows that the Red Earth deposit is very fine-grained with anegligible sand fraction ( > 63 μm). Thin-section observations under light microscopy show that thedeposit has a clayey texture and the coarse fraction ( > 10 μm) mainly consists of quartz,feldspar and micas. Pyroxene and hornblende were also observed. This mineralogical composition ofthe coarse fraction is similar to that of the Quaternary loess. In addition, all of the mineralgrains are semi angular semi-angular and are generally finer than 63 μm. There is a good agreementbetween the major and minor trace element chemistry of loess-soil units and the Red Earth *** REE distributions of the loess-soil and the Red Earth deposit are similar in shape, withenriched LREE and fairly flat HREE profiles and a clear negative Eu anomaly. The geochemicalcharacteristics of the Red Earth deposit are also identical to those of upper continental crust,thus indicating a wind-blown origin. Magnetostratigraphic investigation shows that onset of the RedEarth deposition predates 11.4.Ma BP (13.6 Ma at a nearby site). The distribution of the reportedMiocene aeolian loess at Qin''an of the Loess Plateau is still unknown. Our results indicate thatthis aeolian deposit had extended to the northeastern Tibetan Plateau by at least the middleMiocene. The similarity of the element geochemistry between the Red Earth deposit and the overlyingloess shows that they may have similar sources and dynamic transport system, and may indicate thatthe

Mo_(2)P Monolayer as a Superior Electrocatalyst for Urea Synthesis from Nitrogen and Carbon Dioxide Fixation:A Computational Study

Urea synthesis through the simultaneous electrocatalytic reduction of N_(2)and CO_(2)molecules under ambient conditions holds great promises as a sustainable alternative to its industrial production,in which the development of stable,highly efficient,and highly selective catalysts to boost the chemisorption,activation,and coupling of inert N_(2)and CO_(2)molecules remains rather ***,by means of density functional theory computations,we proposed a new class of two-dimensional nanomaterials,namely,transition-metal phosphide monolayers(TM_(2)P,TM=Ti,Fe,Zr,Mo,and W),as the potential electrocatalysts for urea *** results showed that these TM_(2)P materials exhibit outstanding stability and excellent metallic ***,the Mo_(2)P monolayer was screened out as the best catalyst for urea synthesis due to its small kinetic energy barrier(0.35 eV)for C-N coupling,low limiting potential(-0.39 V),and significant suppressing effects on the competing side *** outstanding catalytic activity of the Mo_(2)P monolayer can be ascribed to its optimal adsorption strength with the key^(*)NCON species due to its moderate positive charges on the Mo active *** findings not only propose a novel catalyst with high-efficiency and high-selectivity for urea production but also further widen the potential applications of metal phosphides in electrocatalysis.

The water cycle in the source region of the Yellow River underwent great changes in the 1990s. The major features of the changes are as follows: the gauged runoff declined significantly while the precipitation increased slightly, and the runoff process was more concentrated on the flood season. Water balance analyses indicate that the pondage was kept in the status of negative equilibrium, causing eco-environmental problems. The runoff decrement is due to evaporation increment in this region. Studies show that the runoff process in this region is closely related to that of the other hydrological stations in the upper reaches. When the runoff declines in the source regions, the amount of water also declines in the whole upper reaches of the Yellow River, affecting the balance between water demand and supply. Meanwhile changes will take place in the water cycle of the river course system when the eco-environment deteriorates. The trend of water cycle change in the source region is that the runoff will keep declining with the increment of evaporation caused by temperature rise in the northwest of china in the 21st century. But the hydraulic engineering in the source region will help to mitigate the deterioration of local eco-environment system, though the impacts to the lower reaches of this project may not be the case.

Politeness Principle and the Choice of Address Forms in Intercultural Communication

This paper makes a tentative study of the politeness strategies stressed in the choice of address forms in Chinese,American and Japanese culture under the guidance of Politeness Principle by Brown and *** a comprehensive analysis,It is concluded that the major function of English address forms is to indicate solidarity and realize positive politeness,In contrast,both Chinese and Japanese address forms emphasize deference and help achieve negative politeness;It is the author's hope that a better understanding of these addressing rules in different cultures will benefit effective use of these languages and help avoid miscommunication in intercultural communication.
