Carbonate cemented zones are normally adjacent to the top overpressured surface in the central Junggar Basin,NW *** carbon and oxygen isotopic compositions and petrological investigations of carbonate cements in the carbonate cemented zones indicate that:(1) carbonate cements are composed dominantly of ferrocalcite,ferroan dolomite,and ankerite;(2) carbonate cements are formed under a high temperature circumstance in the subsurface,and organic fluid migration has an important effect on the formation of them;and(3) carbon and oxygen ions in the carbonate cements migrate from the underlying overpressured *** suggests that the occurrence of carbonate cemented zones in this region results from multiple phases of organic fluid expulsion out of the overpressure compartment through geological *** study provides a plausible mechanism of the formation of carbonate cemented zones adjacent to the top overpressured surface in the clastic sedimentary basins,and has an important implication for understanding the internal correlation between the formation of carbonate cemented zones adjacent to top overpressured surface and geofluids expulsion out of overpressured system.

This paper examines the experiences of two mountain communities- Yinchanggou and Donghekou in the Wenchuan earthquake of May 12, 2008, where Yinchanggou's tourism economy and natural park system was destroyed and Donghekou was buried by a landslide. We conducted research surveys on both the communities, interviewing survivors and local officials, and observed the destruction/reconstruction, geological, and living conditions. We suggest that protracted educational processes be put into place so that mountain communities possess a knowledge base to consider long-term disaster prevention when building the economy in the fragile and geo-hazardous conditions of the Longmenshan. The Donghekou Earthquake Ruins Park is an exemplar of turning disaster into sustainable, safe development for small mountain villages.

Study on bed load transport for uniform sediment in laminar flow

Previous studies focused on the bed load transport rate for the condition of turbulent flow,while the knowledge of sediment transport in laminar flow is very *** an extreme case to reflect the viscous effect on sediment transport,sediment transport in laminar flow is considered in this *** are at least two factors affecting the transport rate of sediment under laminar flow conditions: (1) fluid forces;(2) particle to particle ***,these two factors represent the physical transport ***,an exposure degree Probability Density Function (PDF) is developed to explore how the transport rate can be associated with characteristics of laminar flow and this factor reflects the particle to particle interactions,and the pickup probability equation in the absence of turbulence is developed based on the stochastic approach which reflects the exposure degree ***,the formulas to calculate the critical shear stress of incipient motion and the bed load transport rate of fine uniform sediment are *** derivation is made mainly based on Einstein’s bed load theory;we choose Einstein’s equation to model this system because we believe that the probabilistic approach taken is an appropriate way to account for the spatial and temporal variations in the forces causing sediment *** formulas have been tested against a wide range of existing laboratory data and compared with other existing empirical or semiempirical *** predictions by these newly proposed formulas are very good.

Spatial-temporal effects of temperature control device of stoplog intake for JinpingⅠhydropower station

This article presents an analysis of the spatial-temporal effect of multi-level stoplog gate intake adopted at Jinping I hydropower station,which is to reduce the adverse impacts on fish breeding caused by cold water discharged from the station in spring and summer.A mathematical model is applied to predict the temperature distribution in reservoir and outflow temperature process of the downstream of Jinping I station with two different types of intake-low level single intake and multi-level stoplog gate *** a single station,the latter shows great improvement over the former on temperature distortion(suitable for fish breeding) .In order to evaluate the cumulative effect for different intake types,the analysis is extended to include the next four hydropower stations *** results show that the outflow temperature of stoplog intake is more close to the nature condition comparing with the low level intake for the Jinping I hydropower *** the side effect of cold water in April during temperature raising period can be well improved,but no obvious effect in *** I hydropower station has dominated influence on temperature process at lower reach of Yalong *** by the downstream hydropower station cascade,cold temperature effect in spring and summer seems to be cumulatively enhanced,but the heating effect turns weakened during *** analysis suggests the improving effect of stoplog intake can maintain 80%at estuary in April,which clearly shows that stratified intake scheme used in control station can mitigate the cold temperature effect in spring and summer for the whole river basin.

A new type of plunge pool―Multi-horizontal submerged jets

Based on the understanding of the mechanism of energy dissipation,a new type of plunge pool is presented with the advantages of high rate of energy dissipation,low impact pressure,and small close-to-bed velocity on the soleplate of the plunge *** first advantage owes to enlarged shearing energy dissipation areas in the plunge pool,while the other two are caused by the jet that enters in a nearly horizontal level to keep the soleplate from being scoured *** of the above arrangements make this new type of energy dissipator distinct from the underflow energy *** experiments on the physical model,the authors found that the water flow maintained stable and submerged in horizontal direction when the flow was narrow in horizontal but thick in vertical ***,the wide flat nappe was ready to submerge or float as the downstream water level rised or *** entire flow fields of multi-horizontal submerged jets into plunge pool were also numerically *** numerical results of water surface curve,close-to-bed velocity and floor pressure agree well with the experimental *** flow pattern in the plunge pool was analyzed after combining the laboratory data and numerical simulation.

Chromo-chemodosimetric detection for Fe^(2+) by Fenton reagent-induced chromophore-decolorizing of halogenated phenolsulfonphthalein derivatives

A commercially-available sulfonphthalein derivative was demonstrated to be a chemodosimeter for Fe2+ and its sensing behavior was further investigated by UV-vis spectroscopy in aqueous media under the optimum *** the presence of chlorophenol red (CPR) and H2O2,the absorption maximum at 435 nm decreased upon addition of Fe2+,resulting in a significant color change of the CPR solution from yellow to *** chemosensor system did not show significant responses to a series of other metal ions including Al3+,Zn2+,Cd2+,Hg2+,Mn2+,Co2+,Fe3+,Ni2+,Cu2+,La3+,Ce4+,Th4+,Pd2+,Pb2+,Sb3+,Cr3+,Au3+,Ag+,Nd3+,Sm3+,alkali and alkaline earth metal cations,allowing for highly selective naked-eye detection of Fe2+.Quantitative analysis was carried out kinetically for practicable the Fe2+ assay when either fixed time method or the initial rate method was *** the detecting time was set,the decrease of absorbance signal was linear with Fe2+ concentration in the range of 0 to 7.50 × 10-5 mol L-1 and the regression equation was ΔA = 0.00759 + 0.00593CFe with a correlation coefficient r = *** chemodosimetric system has employed an irreversible Fenton reagent-promoted oxidation of the CPR free chromophore and the hydroxyl radicals were generated in the presence of both Fe2+ and hydrogen *** mechanistic interpretation of the signaling process was partially confirmed by the radical scavenging experiment and the FT-IR analysis of the intermediates formed at different reaction periods.

State space approach for joint estimation of activity and attenuation map from PET emission sinograms

Quantitative estimation of radioactivity map has important clinical implications for better diagnosis and understanding of cancers. Although attenuation map and activity map are usually treated sequentially, they can obviously benefit a great deal when the transmission data is missing. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme of simultaneously solving for attenuation map and activity distribution from emission sinograms. Our strategy combines the measurement model of PET, and the attenuation parameters are treated as random variables with known prior statistics. After the conversion to state space representation, the extended Kalman filtering procedures are adopted to linearize the equations and to provide the joint estimates in an approximate optimal sense. Experiments have been performed on both synthetic data to illustrate its abilities and benefits.

Shape description matrix and its applications to color-image retrieval and recognition

Shape description matrix (SDM) describing regional pixel distribution characteristics of images is defined, with both radial and angular distribution messages taken into account to offer a comprehensive and exact description of the shape characteristics even upon a blurred edge. Using this SDM, a general color histogram (GCH) is developed. Both theoretical and experimental results show that the GCH can be applied to color-image retrievals and recognitions with a high efficiency.

Prediction of Debris-flow Danger Area by Combining Hydrological and Inundation Simulation Methods

Debris flows have caused serious human casualties and economic losses in the regions strongly affected by the Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake of 2oo8. Debris flow mitigation and risk assessment is a key issue for reconstruction. The existing methods of inundation simulation are based on historical disasters and have no power of prediction. The rain- flood method can not yield detailed flow hydrograph and does not meet the need of inundation simulation. In this paper, the process of water flow was studied by using the Arc-SCS model combined with hydraulic method, and then the debris flow runoff process was calculated using the empirical formula combining the result from Arc-SCS. The peak discharge and runoff duration served as input of inundation simulation. Then, the dangerous area is predicted using kinematic wave method and Manning equation. Taking the debris flow in Huashiban gully in Beichuan County, Sichuan Province, china on 24 Sep. 2oo8 as example, the peak discharge of water flow and debris flow were calculated as 35.52 m3·s-1 and 215.66 m3·s-, with error of 4.15% compared to the measured values. The simulated area of debris-flow deposition was 161,500 m2, vs. the measured area of 144,097 m2, in error of 81.75%. The simulated maximum depth was 12.3 m, consistent with the real maximum depth between lO and 15 m according to the field survey. The minor error is mainly due to the flow impact on buildings and variations in cross-section configuration. The present methodology can be applied to predict debrisflow magnitude and evaluate its risk in other watersheds inthe earthquake area.
