Structural deformation and fault activity of the Tan-Lu Fault zone in the Bohai Sea since the late Pleistocene

The Tan-Lu Fault zone (TLFZ) is a significant fractural zone in eastern china and also a seismicity belt in North china. Based on total 4000-km-long shallow penetrated single seismic data with high-resolution, structural deformation and fault activity of the TLFZ in the Bohai Sea since the late Pleistocene are discussed in detail. The results show that the TLFZ with a discontinuous distribution and a general NNE-trending consists of 14 active subfaults with an NNE or NE strike in the Bohai Sea. Seismic data reveal that deformation zones along the subfaults in the central Bohai Sea and the Laizhou Bay are wider and more complex than those in the Liaodong Gulf. Related folds and lots of secondary normal faults which are characterized by nearly vertical fault planes and a same or reverse dip construct the fractural zone in the Laizhou Bay and the central Bohai Sea. Usually, micro sym-metrical grabens develop on the top of anticlines. In the Liaodong Gulf, subfault fractural zones usually consist of secondary normal faults with the same inclination or opposite inclination. Ages of seismic sequences and cutting relation between subfaults and seismic sequences suggest that the latest faulting age of the TLFZ is the end of the late Pleistocene in the Liaodong Gulf and the early Holocene in the Laizhou Bay and the central Bohai Sea. There is a good match between distribution of earthquakes and that of the subfaults in the Laizhou Bay and the central Bohai. Statistical result shows that total vertical offset of the TLFZ since the late Pleistocene ranges from 6 to 11 m. On the basis of offsets of the subfaults, the vertical slip rate is calculated and results show that average vertical slip rates in the central Bohai Sea are larger than those in the Liaodong Gulf and the Laizhou Bay. Slip rates more than 0.06 mm/a during 23-10 ka B.P. and 85-65 ka B.P. are larger than those in other stages. The TLFZ was mainly dominated by tensional normal component since the late Pleistocene

Distribution pattern of ostracodes in the western part of the Huanghai Sea was re-analyzed using the occurrence data of 142 species from 175 surface sediment samples. The high values of ostracode speimen density are generally restricted to depths shallower than 40 m. The species diversity H(S) is higher in the southern part and lower in the northem part of the area studied, the trend which is correspondent to the change of water temperature in the Huanghai Sea. In the area where radial tidal sands is distributed, H(S) reaches its maximum average *** ostracode biofacies were delineated using Q-mode factor analysis, based on the data of 77 samples and 69 species. Their distributions are correspondent with environmental parameters such as water temperature, salinity and substrate *** tracing the geographical distribution of ostracode species in the Huanghai Sea and the East china Sea, it is reconfirmed that the discontinuity of species distribution between the two areas, located at around 32N, coincides with the boundary of subtropical/warm temperate zones of china seas.

By using satellite remote sensing informations, the conceptual system of time-space at tributes and time dimension in recent evolution of the sand spit at the Huanghe River mouth is expound ed. Based on this work, the parameterization of relevant factors and topological analysis of sand spit spa tial structure are conducted, and a model, which is suitable for representing the development and growth of the Huanghe River mouth is developed. It is shown that during the later stage of its development, the Sand spit growth index is almost 0. According to the parallelogram rule, under the reinforce effects of the Coriolis force and ocean dynamics, the Sand spit of current stream will never extend towards sea when it reaches the deep-water area. This work would be helpful to the imminent comprehensive harness of the 'man-made river branch' at the Huanghe River mouth.

A new method for inversion of gravity field using the technique of inverse filtering is presented in this paper to calculate the structure of *** inversing gravity data of West Pacific and Okinawa Trough, it has been proven that the method of inverse filtering has many advantages, such as high accuracy, fast convergence rate, small memory space used and arbitrary reduction of sampling interval. This new method is convenient to minicomputer for solving the inverse problem of crustal structure.

The experimental results of the redox of manganese and ferro ions by manganese bacteria are described. Under the aerobic conditions, the manganese bacteria can oxidate Mn2+ into Mn4+. In the course of the manganese bacteria multiplication, the continual increaes of environmental pH is advantageous to the oxidation of manganese and the rise of environmental temperature helps the bacteria to speed the oxidation of manganese ions. The manganese bacteria can fastly oxidate Fe2+ in the culture containing low vaient ferro into Fe3+, its oxidation speed being faster than that of manganese oxide. Under the anaerobic conditions,the manganese bacteria can reduce high valent ferro in solutioninto low valent ferro and distinctly lower the environmental pH.

Abundance of total bacteria, heterotrophic bacteria, coliform and oil degradable bacteria and their relations with salinity and suspended matter in the frontal waters in the Hangzhou Bay are described. The results obtained show that the highest abundances of total bacteria , heterotrophic bacteria are encountered around the front and near the northern shore of the Hangzhou Bay, where a positive correlation ( r =0. 70) between the total bacteria abundance and the total suspended matter (TSM) is persent. Moreover,the abundance of oil degradable bacteria being an indicator of oil pollution, is also high in that region.

In this paper the parameterizational approach of nonlinear source function and the implicit scheme of the model are discussed in detail. The matching problem is solved between time and space steps using the characteristics inlaid scheme with very strong physical meaning. The computational comparison in typical winds shows some improvements to the WAM model. That the hindcast results of the model for typhoon cases are in good agreement with real data illustrates its applicability to wave forecast and engineering study.

Observations show that during summer especially in August, the northward expansion of the Changjiang（Yangtze） River diluted water （CRDW） is blocked in the vicinity of the Changjiang Estuary. To explain this phenomenon, Princeton ocean model （POM） is applied to simulate the summertime expansion pattern of CRDW. Numerical experiments show that to the north of the Changjiang Estuary, a tide-induced temperature front of a cold water centered at （34°N, I22.5°E） plays the key role in determining the expansion pattern of CRDW. This front splits the CRDW into two parts： the main part expands northeastward, and the other small part expands northwestward off the coast of Jiangsu Province, china.
