Based on regional compensation and experimental isostasy, the calculating formula of theoretical isostatic response function is deduced when the loads on top correlate with loads from below. A variety of curves of theoretical isostatic response function were calculated with different effective elastic thickness of the plate and by using different proportions between loads on top and loads from below. And preliminary discussion is made on shapes of the curves.

INTRODUCTIONDr. Hollister, a marine geologist of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, first pointed out that there was ocean storm current in the ocean. He found out the wavy texture in the seabed core samples, and suggested that this wavy texture was caused by the high speed sea current in remote antiquity. He then suggested a bold hypothesis that there existed a benthic storm current near the ocean bottom, and presented this hypothesis at the IUGG conference held at San Francisco in 1963. Unfortunately, the attention was not drawn to the hypothesis at the conference, and the hypothesis was criticized as a sheer nonsense.

The distribution of ghrelin-like immunoreactive cells in amphioxus (Branchiostoma belcheri) was investigated by using immunohisto-chemical staining with rabbit antiserum against synthetical mammalian ghrelin. The results showed that ghrelin-like immunoreactive cells were distributed widely in the nervous system,Hatschek’s pit,wheel organ,digestive tract and gonads (ovary and testis). In nervous system,ghrelin-like immunoreactive neurons and their protrusions were distributed specifically on the dorsal side,ventral side and funnel part of brain vesicle,with a few dispersive immunoreactive nerve cells and their fibers in nerve tube. Ghrelin-like immunoreactivities were also detected in Hatschek’s pit epithelial cells and wheel organ cells,with positive substance located along cell membrane. In digestive tract,ghrelin-like immunoreactive cells existed in hepatic diverticulum,anterior and posterior region of midgut,and could be classified into two types,closed-and opened-type endocrine cells. The number of positive cells was most in hepatic diverticulum,secondary in posterior region of midgut and least in anterior region of midgut. In gonads,ghrelin-like immunoreactive substance was detected in oogonia,oocytes and follicle cells in ovary at the small and large growth stages and in early spermatogenic cells and Sertoli cells in testis. The extensive distribution of ghrelin-like cells in amphioxus suggested that these kinds of cells are conservative in evolution and diver-sified in function. At the same time,we found for the first time that ghrelin-like immunoreactive cells existed in brain vesicle and Hat-schek’s pit,which provided new morphological evidence for the existence of an activation pathway between brain vesicle and Hatschek’s pit for the regulation of growth hormone excretion.

-Isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) and ultra-clean room approach are successfully used in the determination of Cd, Pb and Zn in seawater and the sample pretreatment of analysis. The precision in the determination of Cd, Pb and Zn in seawater is better than±3% and the limits of detection are 6×10-12, 6×10-11 and 2.4×10-10 respectively. The effects of sample pretreatment such as filtration and acidification on the results of determination of Cd- Pb and Zn in seawater are disscussed.

Sea level pressure (SLP) anomalies over the southern high latitudes associated with the Indian Ocean Dipole Mode (IOD) are *** correlation and composite analysis depict,for the first time,the seasonal spatial variability in the relationship of SLP field in Southern Ocean with *** suggest that the IOD signal exists in the southern high latitudes and it is enhanced in boreal autumn,an active season of *** interannual to subdecadal timescales,the spatial teleconnection pattern exhibits a wavenum-ber-3 pattern around the circumpolar Southern Ocean and the lead-lag correlation analysis shows that there are about 3 months of SLP anomalies in southern high latitudes lagging IOD,which indicates that the response time is almost instantaneous.

Sedimentary environments in the Hangzhou Bay are introduced by a three-subregional landform pattern and a sedimentation map with six major sedimentation types. The geographic setting, sediment transportation and sedimentation in different subregions are discussed with sediment grain parameters. Sedimentary basin suffering from effect of plume front can be identified by the fine sediments with median ( Mdφ ) 7φ-8φ, clay content 30% - 40% and silt 60% - 70%. Sediment transportation along the plume front seems not to be a direct effect on sedimentary formation of the shoals fringing the south coast of the Hangzhou Bay.

The change and distribution of inorganic phosphate and dissolved oxygen content in sea water pos-sess a certuin regularity and correlation, which are closely related to the direct influence of biologicalactivities. Geochemistry analysis has been done on Core E (37 07' N, 118 55' E; depth: 82.1 m) taken from the Laizhou Bay in 1994. Nine kinds of invariable elements, 15 kinds of microelements and the content of lime carbonate are measured by means of ICP. The results indicate that most of the invariable elements and microelements in Core E show significant changes in the boundary stratotype, and the ratios between elements (Mn/Fe, Sr/Ba, Ti/Al) in particular. So they can be used as characteristic indicator to stratigraphic division of Quaternary. The changes of invariable elements are primarily controlled by the host minerals, and they mainly indicate the provenance as well as the sedimentation and depositional environment. Several elements, such as Fe, Al, Ca, Mg, Mn and Ti, are very sensitive to the provenance and environment. The distribution of microelements differs in four depositional periods: last stage of Middle Pleistocene, last interglacial period, last glacial period and Recent epoch, and especially in the 'cold period' and 'warm period'. The loops in the cycle curves of the most microelements correspond with the sand bed sediments, among which there are six sand units representing 'warm period' sediments, and one representing 'cold period' sediments. The carbonate is on the high side in the aeolian silt sediments formed in the glacial lowering of sea level in Core E, but on the low side in the transgressive sand beds formed in the interglacial period. The content variation of carbonate has a direct bearing on the grain size and the styles of sediments, and is a good indicator to the climate, environment and stratigraphic division.
