Background: Termination of pregnancy (TOp) in Zambia is guided by the Termination of pregnancy (TOp) Act of 1972 and as amended in 1994 of the laws of Zambia. however, despite provision of Comprehensive abortion care services with the liberal law, statistics at Kanyama first Level h.spital in relation to unsafe illegal abortions are alarming. This study sought to understand the Awareness on the TOp Act of the laws of Zambia among women of reproductive age 15 - 49 years at Kanyama first Level h.spital in Lusaka district. purpose of the study: To assess awareness on the TOp Act among women of reproductive age at Kanyama first Level h.spital in Lusaka, Zambia. Methodology: A convergent parallel mixed method design was conducted using both survey and in-depth interviews among women of reproductive age at Kanyama first Level h.spital in Lusaka district. The study surveyed 370 randomly sampled women aged 15 to 49 years old while the in-depth interviews included eight women purposively sampled from the survey population. survey data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics while qualitative data thematic analysis was used. Results: The study found that 37% of the participants were aware of the TOp Act while 63.8% viewed legalization of abortion for any reason as wrong. The study results also showed that widowed women were 8 times more likely to be aware of the TOp Act compared to single women (AOR: 8.262;95% CI: 1.105, 61.778). Women in business were significantly more likely to be aware of the TOp Act compared to those who reported having no occupation. (AOR: 2.61;95% CI: 1.246, 5.499). Limited access to information, the social stigma attached to abortion, health care providers’ attitudes, cultural norms, values and religious beliefs, restrictive legal requirements, and absence of a supportive network were some of the barriers affecting awareness and utilization of available safe abortion care services. Aim: To study the association between seminal oxidative stress and human sperm acrosin activity. Methods: It is a prospective study consisting of 30 infertile men and 12 fertile normozoospermic volunteers. A full history, clinical examination and scrotal ultrasound were done to exclude other related factors such as smoking and varicocele. presence of white blood cells (WBCs) in semen samples was evaluated by peroxidase staining. Lipid peroxidation in spermatozoa was induced after incubating with ferrous sulphate (4 mmol/L) and sodium ascorbate (20 mmol/L). Induced peroxidation of spermatozoa was assessed by determining the production of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARs). Acrosin activity was measured using the gelatinolysis technique. The halo diameters around the sperm heads and the percentages of spermatozoa showing halo formation were evaluated. An acrosin activity index was calculated by multiplying the halo diameter by the halo formation rate. Results: A significant difference was observed in acrosin activity parameters and TBARs levels between samples with WBCs (>1×106/mL of ejaculate) and those without. This difference was also noted between the normozoospermic and the oligoasthenoteratozoospermic semen samples. The TBARs production by spermatozoa had a significant negative correlation with the acrosin activity index (r = -0.89, p sion: The presence of oxidative stress in an individual with leukocytospermia and/or abnormal semen parameters is associated with impaired sperm function as measured by its acrosin activity.

AIM: To monitor the early responses to irradiation in primary and metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) with 18 Ffluorothymidine ( 18 F-FLT) and 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose ( 18 F-FDG) small-animal position emission tomography (micro-pET). METhODs: The primary and metastatic CRC cell lines, sW480 and sW620, were irradiated with 5, 10 and 20, l l l , Gy. After 24 h, the cell cycle phases were analyzed. A dual-tumor-bearing mouse model of primary and metastatic cancer was established by injecting sW480 and sW620 cells into mice. micro-pET with 18 F-FLT and 18 F-FDG was performed before and 24 h after irradiation with 5, 10 and 20 Gy. The region of interest (ROI) was drawn over the tumor and background to calculate the ratio of tumor to non-tumor (T/NT) in tissues. Immunohistochemical assay and Western blotting were used to examine the levels of integrin β3, Ki-67, vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) and heat shock protein 27 (hsp27). REsULTs: The proportion of sW480 and sW620 cells in the G 2 -M phase was decreased with an increasing radiation dose. The proportion of sW480 cells in the G 0 -G 1 phase was increased from 48.33% ± 4.55% to 87.09% ± 7.43% (p hat of sW620 cells in the s-phase was elevated from 43.57% ± 2.65% to 66.59% ± 7.37% (p = 0.021). In micro-pET study, with increasing dose of radiation, 18 F-FLT uptake was significantly reduced from 3.65 ± 0.51 to 2.87 ± 0.47 (p = 0.008) in sW480 tumors and from 2.22 ± 0.42 to 1.76 ± 0.45 (p = 0.026) in sW620 tumors. 18 F-FDG uptake in sW480 and sW620 tumors was reduced but not significantly (F = 0.582, p = 0.633 vs F = 0.273, p = 0.845). Dose of radiation was negatively correlated with 18 F-FLT uptake in both sW480 and sW620 tumors (r = -0.727, p = 0.004; and r = -0.664, p = 0.009). No significant correlation was found between 18 F-FDG uptake and radiation dose in sW480 or sW620 tumors. hsp27 and integrin β3 expression was higher in sW480 than in sW620 tumors. 目的 :观察甲氧氯普胺与多潘立酮 2种胃动力药联合应用对剖宫产术后预防和减轻术后腹胀的效果。方法 :选择剖宫产产妇 30 0例 ,按手术顺序分成A ,B 2组。A为奇数 ,B为偶数各 15 0人。A为对照组 ,术后立即肌内注射维生素B110 0mg ,6h后给复合维生素B 2片 ,po ,tid ,餐前 30min ,至肛门排气停药 ;B组为试验组 ,剖宫产术后立即肌内注射甲氧氯普胺 10mg ,6h后给多潘立酮 10mg ,po ,tid ,餐前 30min ,至肛门排气停药。通过肛门排气时间观察疗效。结果 :B组显效 4 2 % ,有效 5 6% ,总有效率 98%。A组显效 8% ,有效 2 6% ,总有效率 34% ,2组比较差异有非常显著意义 (p <0 .0 1)。未出现锥体外系的不良反应 ,仅 2例出现轻微腹痛。结论

Features of vaginal bacteria community in women with recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis

Objective To investigate the features of vaginal bacteria community in women with recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis （R VVC） and its etiological risk in vaginal health. Methods Totally 237 reproductive-aged women with RVVC in an acute episode were studied. Whereas 230 healthy reproductive-aged women were enrolled as the control. The vaginal ph was evaluated, while vaginal secretions were sampled for Gram＇s staining and oilmicroscopy. By Nugent score system, the composition of vaginal communities was determined, and other micro-ecological features were approached. To describe other features of vaginal microbiota, the community＇s bacteria density, species diversity and predominant species were evaluated at 1 000 X magnification. Results The vaginal ph （4.53 ~ 0.30） and Nugent score （4.31 ___＋ O. 73） in RVVC group were significantly increased compared with vaginal ph （4.11 __＋ 0.30） and Nugent score （1.32 _＋ 1.29） in control group （p〈O.05, respectively）. The density of Lactoba- cillus in RVVC group was significantly lower than that in control group （p〈O.05）, while the densities of Gardnerella vaginalis, Gram-positive cocci and other species were significantly higher respectively than those in control group （p〈O. 05）. species diversity of women with RVVC significantly exceeded that of control group （p〈O.05）. More than half of vaginal communities in R VVC group lost Lactobacillus-dominating and were predominated by other bacteria such as Gardnerella vaginalis and Gram-positive cocci. The prevalence of Gardnerella vaginalis-dominating and Gram-positive cocci-domi- nating communities in RVVC group （37.55% and 19.83%） were significantly higher than those in control group （1.30% and 1.73%）（p〈0.05）. Conclusion The significant changes in vaginal bacterial community were observed in RVVC women. such variations in community might relate to vaginal biological barrier compromising and increase the risk to the recurrence of VVC. Objective： The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of sG1-1776 combination with DDp in sub-toxic concentration on induction of apoptosis of human ovarian cancer hO-8910 ceiis in vitro and to unravei the associated mechanisms. Methods： human ovarian cancer hO-8910 cells were cultured in vitro. The inhibitory effect of sG1-1776 combination with DDp in sub-toxic concentration on induction on viability of human ovarian cancer hO-8910 cells was evaiuated by the MTT assay. Cell apoptosis rate was analyzed by flow cytometry. The proteins expression level related to apoptosis were analyzed by Western blot. Results： sG1-1776 combination with DDp in sub-toxic concentration significantiy inhibited the proliferation of human ovarian cancer hO-8910 cells, and proliferation inhibition rate was increased drastically compared with normai saline （Ns） group or DDp group in sub-toxic concentration or sG1-1776 group in sub-toxic concentration （p 〈 0.01）. Apoptosis rate markedly increased after the treatment of sG1-1776 combination with DDp in sub-toxic concentration for 48 h. Western blot showed that the expression of bcl-2 protein was down-regulated and protein level of Bax and Cyto-c were depressed by sG1-1776 combination with DDp in sub-toxic concentration. Cenclusion： sG1-1776 combination with DDp in sub-toxic concentration could inhibit the cell proliferation and lead to cell apoptosis inhuman ovarian cancer hO-8910 cells, and its mechanism may be related to through mitochondrial apoptotic pathway.

目的研究探讨剖宫产瘢痕部位妊娠发病因素以及预防要求。方法选取48例剖宫产瘢痕部位妊娠患者作为研究对象,患者均经彩超诊断为剖宫产瘢痕部位妊娠,回顾性分析患者的临床基本资料,并对影响剖宫产瘢痕妊娠的发病因素进行分析,统计治疗方法及治疗效果,为剖宫产瘢痕部位妊娠的预防与处理提供依据。结果剖宫产瘢痕部位妊娠的患者和对照组在年龄、孕次等方面的比较均无统计学差异(p>0.05),但在剖宫产次数、人工流产次数、距前次剖宫产时间、既往剖宫产围术期异常情况(除胎膜早剥外)、既往剖宫产术后的子宫切口缝合方式等方面的比较有统计学差异(p<0.05)。结论剖宫产瘢痕部位妊娠的发病因素较多,要通过积极的预防和早期处理提高女性的生存质量。
