the Balakot Formation foreland basin sediments, located in the Hazara\|Kashmir syntaxis, Pakistan, consist of a >8km thick succession of clastic red beds and calcrete, interpreted as deposited in a tidal environment. Within this sequence are intercalated four distinct grey fossiliferous marl and silt units, 20～60m thick, dated at Late Palaeocene to Mid Eocene (Bossart & Ottiger 1989). thus the Balakot Formation has been interpreted as the oldest continental foreland basin deposits and has been used to determine the timing of India\|Eurasia collision (Rowley 1996) which has implications for the degree of diachroneity of collision (Burbank et al. 1996; Uddin and Lundberg 1998) and rapidity of metamorphism (treloar 1997), to interpret the palaeotectonics and palaeogeography of the mountain belt (Critelli and Garzanti 1994; Pivnik and Wells 1996), understand the relationship between mountain belt evolution and exhumation processes (treloar et al. 1991) and construct models of foreland basin evolution and geometry (DeCelles et al. 1998; Burbank et al 1996).

the network of Himalayan roadways and highways connects some remote regions of valleys or hill slopes,which is vital for India’s socio-economic *** to natural and artificial factors,frequency of slope instabilities along the networks has been increasing over last few *** of stability of natural and artificial slopes due to construction of these connecting road networks is significant in safely executing these roads throughout the *** rock mass classification methods are generally used to assess the strength and deformability of rock *** study assesses slope stability along the nH-1A of Ramban district of north Western *** structurally and non-structurally controlled rock mass classification systems have been applied to assess the stability conditions of 14 *** evaluating the stability of these slopes,kinematic analysis was performed along with geological strength index(GSI),rock mass rating(RMR),continuous slope mass rating(CoSMR),slope mass rating(SMR),and Q-slope in the present *** SMR gives three slopes as completely unstable while CoSMR suggests four slopes as completely *** stability of all slopes was also analyzed using a design chart under dynamic and static conditions by slope stability rating(SSR)for the factor of safety(FoS)of 1.2 and 1 respectively.Q-slope with probability of failure(PoF)1%gives two slopes as stable *** slope angle has been determined based on the Q-slope safe angle equation and SSR design chart based on the *** value ranges given by different empirical classifications were RMR(37-74),GSI(27.3-58.5),SMR(11-59),and CoSMR(3.39-74.56).Good relationship was found among RMR&SSR and RMR&GSI with correlation coefficient(R 2)value of 0.815 and 0.6866,***,a comparative stability of all these slopes based on the above classification has been performed to identify the most critical slope along this road.

In this paper, we review the main progresses in the last decade, including new discoveries of supernova remnants and the associated (rare type of) pulsars, nucleosynthesis, the interaction between supernova remnants and molecular clouds, dust in the supernova remnants, shock physics, and cosmic ray accelerations.

Fundamental Research in Pipeline Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking

＜正＞Femtosecond laser micromachining is a new approach emerging in MEMS area in recent years. Although some applications have been reported, this technology is still not matured and not understood very well. Femtosecond lasers currently show much promise as potential effective tools in micromachining or micro-system applications, which include industrial material processing, biomedicine, photonics, and semiconductors. this paper reviewed femtosecond laser technology with emphasis on mode-locked technology and chirped pulsed amplification （CPA）. We described the most important difference between femtosecond laser and traditional lasers, which is multiphoton absorption during laser material interaction. We introduced the configuration and principle of our femtosecond laser micromachining workstation and the status of micromachining with femtosecond laser pulses in the literature. Some advantages and applications such as processing different materials including transparent materials and creating very fine features （on the order of tens of nm） are presented. Finally, we suggested several future efforts that are parameter selection and optimization of micromachining processing, development of process and tolerance control algorithms, development of sensors and measurement methods, and development of the theory and methods of design for the femtosecond laser micromachining application. to achieve these targets effectively we proposed a "free force" 3D micromachining concept using lasers including femtosecond laser to create micro and nanostructures.

＜正＞Corrosion and stress corrosion cracking （SCC） have caused significant failures in gas and oil transmission pipelines in canada, resulting in extremely serious consequences in environment, economy and energy transportation. Particularly, SCC-induced pipeline failures are low-probability, high-consequence events. the potential catastrophic effects are evident from the damage caused by the stress corrosion cracking of the transcanada pipeline in 1996, destroying a house 178 metres away as well as nearby power lines, trees, and other vegetation. In addition, millions of cubic feet of natural gas were lost.

In this paper, we study some singular singularly-perturbed boundary-value problem Pε consisting of the differential equations and the boundary conditions where t ∈ [0, 1], 0 nd H2 are scalar functions and infinitely differentiable with respect to their variables *** approach is somewhat similar to those of Chang [2], Shi [6] and Smith [7]. Our main result (theorem 4) is new and extends the result, in the scalar case, of Shi [6], who dealt with the problem (1) with V(t, x, ε2y, ε) in place of V(t, x, εy, ε). An application of our result is given at the end.
