The Liao.e o.lfield in the Liao.e Western Dep.essio. o. the Bo.ai Gulf Basin is the third-largest o.l p.o.ucing p.o.ince and the largest heavy o.l p.o.ucing o.lfield in China. A to.al o. 65 o.l samp.es,35 ro.k samp.es and 36 reservo.r sandsto.e samp.es were co.lected and analyzed utilizing co.ventio.al geo.hemical and bio.eo.hemical ap.ro.ches to.unravel the mechanisms o. the fo.matio. o. the heavy o.ls. Investigatio. o. the o.ls with the lo.est maturity co.p.red with the o.ls in the Gao.heng and Niuxintuo.o.lfields indicates no.ap.arent relatio. between the maturity and p.ysical p.o.0}rties o. the heavy o.ls. It is suggested that the heavy o.l with p.imary o.igin is no. likely the main mechanism re-sp.nsible fo. the majo.ity o. the heavy o.ls in the Liao.e Western Slo.0}. The absence and/o. dep.etio. o. n-alkanes etc.,with relatively lo. mo.ecular weight and the o.currence o. 25-no.ho.0}ne series in the heavy o.ls as well as the relatively high acidity o. the o.ls all suggest that the majo.ity o. the heavy o.ls o.ce exp.rienced seco.dary alteratio.. The fingerp.ints o. the to.al scanning fluo.escence (TSF) o. the inner adso.bed hydro.arbo.s o. the reservo.r grains and the included hydro.arbo.s in fluid inclusio.s are similar to.that o. the no.mal o.ls in the area but are different fro. the o.ter adso.bed and reser-vo.red free o.ls at p.esent,further indicating that mo.t o. the heavy o.ls are seco.dary in o.igin. Analyses o. bacteria (micro.es) in 7 o.l samp.es indicate that anaero.ic and hyp.rthermo.0}ilic Ar-chaeo.lo.us sp. are the do.inant micro.es relevant to.o.l bio.egradatio.,which co.ncides with the shallo. co.mercial gas reservo.rs co.taining anaero.ic bacteria derived gas in the Gao.heng and Leijia teo.o.ic belts. The bio.egradatio. mo.t likely o.curs at the water/o.l interface,where the fo.ma-tio. water is essential fo. micro.e remo.al and nutrient transp.rtatio.. We think that bio.egradatio.,water washing and o.idizatio. are interrelated and are the main mech

The sp.ctral element metho. which co.bines the advantages o. sp.ctral metho. with tho.e o. finite element metho., p.o.ides an efficient to.l in simulating elastic wave equatio. in co.p.ex medium. Based o. weak fo.m o. elasto.ynamic equatio.s, mathematical fo.mulatio.s fo. Legendre sp.ctral element metho. are p.esented. The wave field o. an element is discretized using high-o.der La-grange interp.latio., and integratio. o.er the element is acco.p.ished based up.n the Gauss-Lo.atto.Legendre integratio. rule. This results in a diago.al mass matrix which leads to.a greatly simp.ified algo.ithm. In additio., the element by element technique is intro.uced in o.r metho. to.reduce the memo.y sizes and imp.o.e the co.p.tatio. efficiency. Finally, so.e numerical examp.es are p.esented to.demo.strate the sp.ctral accuracy and the efficiency. Because o. co.binatio.s o. the finite element scheme and sp.ctral algo.ithms, this metho. can be used fo. co.p.ex mo.els, including free surface bo.ndaries and stro.g hetero.eneity.

Based o. existing direct and imaging metho.s o. a staggered finite-difference scheme, an imp.o.ed algo.ithm fo. staggered finite-difference is p.o.0}sed to.imp.ement rugged to.0}grap.ic free bo.ndary co.ditio.s. This metho. assumes that the free surface can be imp.emented with ho.izo.tal and vertical free surface segments and their co.ners; the free surface p.sses thro.gh the grid p.ints o. shear stress co.p.nents, instead o. the no.mal stress co.p.nents. Imaging is carried o.t fo. stress co.p.nents in bo.h ho.izo.tal and vertical directio.s, thus increasing the accuracy. To.up.ate p.rticle- velo.ities, imaging and up.ating are first p.rfo.med in the ho.izo.tal directio., and then in the vertical directio.. The numerical results fo. elastic flat ho.izo.tal free surface with the imaging metho. and tho.e fo. flat free surfaces o. vario.s slo.0} angles with the p.o.0}sed metho. are co.p.red, and are sho.n to.be in go.d agreement. The advantage o. the p.o.0}sed metho. is that o.ly the stresses are dealt with in imp.ementing the free surface into.the staggered algo.ithm, which imp.o.es co.p.tatio. efficiency.

In the DF1-1 Gas Field in the Yinggehai Basin, So.th China Sea, the velo.ity-dep.h p.o. and velo.ity sp.ctra sho. significant variatio.s fro. a linear trend, exhibiting a distinct reversal p.eno.eno.. Velo.ity p.rameters derived fro. velo.ity sp.ctral analysis o. the seismic data and so.ic lo.s indicate that the interval velo.ity reverses belo. 2,100 m (2.2 s two.way time (TWT)) in the DF1-1 Gas Field. So.e direct hydro.arbo. indicato.s (DHIs) mo.els develo.0}d fo. the shallo. strata canno. be simp.y ap.lied to.the mo.erately to.deep.y buried strata fo. direct exp.o.atio. target reco.nitio. because the velo.ity reversal has caused the middle-deep.gas reservo.rs to.exhibit a mo.erate o. weak seismic amp.itude. Co.ventio.al geo.hemical ap.ro.ches were utilized in the quantitative p.edictio. o. the p.o.0}rtio.s o. mixed-so.rce crude o.ls derived fro. the Es3 and ES4 members o. the p.leo.ene Shahejie Fo.matio.. The mixed-so.rce o.ls are accumulated in the middle interval o. the Es3 member （Es3 M） in the Niuzhuang Sag, which is o.e o. the sags where subtle trap. are p.imarily o. lenticular basin-flo.r turbidite sands within mudsto.es mo.tly develo.0}d in the Do.gying Dep.essio., Bo.ai Bay Basin. The result sho.ed that abo.t 18-92% o. the mixed-so.rce o.ls were derived fro. the Es4 so.rce ro.ks with an average o. 55-60%）. Reservo.rs asso.iated with deep.faults ap.ear to.have much mo.e Es4 genetic affinity o.ls. A high p.o.0}rtio. o. the Es4-derived o.ls disco.ered in the Es3 M subtle litho.o.ical trap. in the Niuzhuang Sag have lo.g migratio. distances. This suggests that surro.nding so.rce ro.ks might no. necessarily co.tro. the hydro.arbo. sup.ly fo. subtle trap.. Subtle migratio. p.thway may p.ay an imp.rtant ro.e in the vertical o.l migratio.. The traditio.al co.cep. o. hydro.arbo.s accumulatio. in these tenticular turbidite sandsto.e trap. within a sho.t migratio. distance fro. the surro.nding so.rce ro.ks is no. sup.o.ted by this study. The p.esent result is also.co.sistent with o.r p.evio.s findings that immature o.ls in the Bamianhe o.lfield in the so.th slo.0} o. the Niuzhuang Sag were actually mixed-so.rce o.ls mo.tly so.rced fro. the Es4 in the dep.center o. the Niuzhuang Sag, and the petroleum p.tential o. the ES4 member in the Do.gying Dep.essio. sho.ld therefo.e be re-evaluated.

The bo.ndary between litho.p.ere and astheno.p.ere essentially rep.esents a thermal bo.ndary (the so.idus). Temp.rature variatio. acro.s this bo.ndary can lead to.the change o. litho.p.ere thickness. In the case o. elevated temp.ratures in a litho.p.eric layer abo.e 1 200℃, p.rtial melting will begin and the result o. that is a thinned litho.p.ere. The o.her mechanism that can also.thin litho.p.ere is extensio.. Stretching during an extensio. event can result in a thinner and lo.ger litho.p.ere. The two.mechanisms abo.e are the reaso. why we can alserve large variatio.s in litho.p.ere thickness sp.tially acro.s vario.s co.tinents and temp.rally thro.gho.t the geo.o.ical histo.y.
