Aim:To test the hypothesis that genistein stimulates the osteoblastic differentia-tion through the p38 mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK)-core-binding fac-tor 1 (Cbfa1) ***:The activation of p38 MAPK was detected byWestern *** phosphatase (ALP) activity and calcium depositionwere assessed for osteoblastic differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchy-mal stem cell (BMSC) *** expression of Cbfa1 was analyzed at both themRNA and protein *** activity of Cbfa1 was detected by electrophoreticmobility shift *** sialoprotein (BSP),ALP,osteocalcin (OC),andosteopontin (OPN) gene transcription were also evaluated by either RT-PCR orNorthern ***:Genistein (0.01-1 μmol/L) dose dependently led tothe rapid and sustained activation of the p38 MAPK pathway in mouse *** with genistein (1 μmol/L) resulted in increased ALP activityand calcium deposition of BMSC cultures as a function of *** alsoenhanced Cbfa1 DNA binding activity and promoted the expressions of Cbfa1itself as well as several Cbfa1-regulated genes,including ALP,BSP,OC,and *** treatment with p38 MAPK inhibitor (SB203580) diminished thegenistein-induced osteoblastic maturation and p38 MAPK-Cbfa1 activation inmouse BMSC ***:These results indicated that genistein couldstimulate the osteoblastic differentiation of BMSC cultures through the p38MAPK-Cbfa1 pathway.

Let C be a nonempty weakly compact convex subset of a Banach space X, and T : C →C a mapping of asymptotically nonexpansive type. Then there hold the following conclusions: (i) if X has uniform normal structure and limsup |||TjN||| exact Lipschitz constant of TjN , N is some positive integer, and N(X) is the normal structure coefficient of X, then T has a fixed point; (ii) if X is uniformly convex in every direction and has weak uniform normal structure, then T has a fixed point.

Synthesis and characterization of 4-{(E)-[(5-bromo-2-hydroxyphenyl)methylidene]amino}-N-carbamimidoylbenzene-1-sulfonamide(SA) and its composites with graphene(SA-GF) were performed. compound SA and SA-GF were characterized by FTIR and 1H NMR. The GF dispersion in the composites was analyzed by means of scanning electron microscopy(SEM) for morphology. Thermal properties of SA and nanocomposites were investigated using differential thermal analysis(DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). The optimum electrical conductivity of the new sulfonamide-based Schiff base was determined to be 1.78×10–5 S/cm at a frequency of 9923 Hz, an applied voltage of –19 V, a mass fraction of 9.38% for graphene loading using a central composite design in the response surface methodology. The significance of the selected parameters(frequency, voltage and GF amount) in the model was determined by the analysis of variance(ANOVA). The results showed that frequency and graphene loading represent important model terms and have considerable effects on the conductivity of SA.

Aim: Melatonin-selenium nanoparticle (MT-Se), a novel comp.ex, was synthesized by preparing selenium nanoparticles in a melatonin medium. The present investigation was designed to determine the protective effects of MT-Se against immunological liver injury in mice induced by bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG)/ lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Methods: The model of immunological liver injury in mice was prepared. The levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, nitric oxide (NO) in serum, malondialdehyde content, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px) activities in a liver homo-genate were assayed by spectrophotometry. The content of tumor necrosis fac-tor (TNF) and interleukin-1 (IL-1) were determined by ELISA. The splenocyte proliferation was assayed by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetra-zolium bromide (MTT) dye reduction. Meanwhile, a hepatic pathological examination was observed. Results: In the BCG/LPS-induced hepatic injury model, MT-Se administered at doses of 5,10, or 20 mg/kg to the BCG/LPS-treated mice for 10 d significantly reduced the increase in serum aminotransferase, reduced the severe extent of hepatic cell damage and the immigration of inflammatory cells. It also attenuated the increase in the content of thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances and enhanced the decrease in activities of SOD and GSH-px. In contrast, the treatment with MT-Se suppressed the increase in NO level in both the serum and liver tissue. Furthermore, MT-Se significantly lowered an increase in TNF and IL-1 levels in the liver and inhibited the production of TNF and IL-1 by peritoneal macrophages. A downregulation effect of MT-Se on splenocyte proliferation was also observed. Conclusion: MT-Se showed a hepatic protective action on immunological liver injury in mice.

This paper provides estimates of brother income correlations for rural china. Brother correlations are a parsimonious measure of the importance of family and community background as determinants of individuals＇ economic status. We find internationally high levels of income similarity for brothers and siblings： 0.57 and 0.58, respectively. compared to the 1990s, income correlations have decreased in more recent years, but remain high. Furthermore, we document virtually no differences between the coastal and interior provinces and by father＇s education. The high brother correlations imply that the high level of income inequality in china is likely to persist.

As economies and ecological support systems become more interdependent, new disciplines are needed to 'bridge the gap' of understanding between societies and nature. It is now clear that neither ecology nor economics alone can address the problems of our global commons. New measures of wealth, of value, of contributions and production are needed that acknowledge the 'natural capital' and 'ecosystem services' provided from healthy environments. A new interface is now being recognized termed 'eco-economics'. It is an ambitious and necessary attempt to understand the affairs of humanity and nature as a single, interdependent system. New tools are being invested to measure wealth. services and production fairly and equitably. In this report we use systems analysis approach to study the combined ecological-economic system of Tibet We use an alternative measure of value, based on real contributions to system performance, termed EMERGY, spelt with an 'M'. It is an accounting unit of total contributions, direct and indirect. used in generating a product or service. It is a concept derived from understanding whole systems, their interactions and interdependence, and the resources driving and maintaining them. This broader approach will help us to investigate Tibetan resources utilization and potentialities and exchange. Emergy analysis allows comparison and incroporation of environmental costs and benefits with variables of traditional economic costs and benefits to provide a more comprehensive perspective for public policy directives. Using three-wave survey data for four villages of Jiangsu Province in china, the present paper examines whether and to what extent off-farm employment affects the technical efficiency of agricultural production. The level of technical efficiency is measured using a stochastic frontier production function approach. Based on estimation results from instrumental variable panel quantile regressions we find that there is a positive significant effect of off-farm employment on the level of farm technical efficiency. We also find that fragmentation of farmland is a barrier to the improvement of technical efficiency. In addition, we find a downward trend in the level of agricultural technical efficiency among our sample. Therefore, the Chinese Government should stimulate agricultural mechanization and the development of farming techniques to improve technical efficiency in the context of increasing off-farm employment.

Aim:To investigate the possible roles of peroxisome proliferator-activated recep-tor α(PPARα) and the signal pathway regulating the transcription of PPARα inthe cardiomyocyte differentiation course of murine embryonic stem (ES) cells ***:The expression of PPARα during cardiomyocyte differentiationwas analyzed using both Western blotting and *** genes and sarcomeric proteins were evaluated when embryoid bodieswere challenged with PPARα specific inhibitor GW6471 at different time *** phosphorylation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) was stud-ied in the differentiation process,and its specific inhibitor SB203580 was em-ployed to study the function of p38 MAPK on cardiac differentiation and theexpression of PPARα.Results:The expression of PPARα was observed to be ata low level in undifferentiated ES cells and markedly induced with the appearanceof beating *** inhibition of PPARα by its specific inhibitor GW6471(1×10-5mol/L) significantly prevented cardiomyocyte differentiation and resultedin the reduced expression of cardiac sarcomeric proteins (ie α-actinin,troponin-T)and specific genes (ie α-MHC,MLC2v) in a time-dependent *** the differ-entiation course,p-p38 MAPK was maintained at a high level from d 3 followed bya decrease from d *** inhibition of the p38 MAPK pathway by SB203580between d 3 and d 7 efficiently prevented cardiomyocyte differentiation and re-suited in the capture of the upregulation of PPARα.Conclusion:Taken together,these results showed a close association between PPARα and cardiomyocytedifferentiation in vitro,and p38 MAPK was partly responsible for the regulationof PPARα.
