Which rule of mixture is the best for predicting the overall elastic properties of polyphase rocks based on the elastic properties and volume fractions of their constituents? In order to address this question, we sintered forsterite-enstatite polycrystalline aggregates with a varied forsterite volume fraction (0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0). Elastic properties (shear, bulk, and Young’s moduli) of these synthesized composites were measured as a function of pressure up to 3.0 GPa in a liquid-medium piston-cylinder apparatus using a high-precision ultrasonic interferometric technique. The experimental data can be much better described by the shear-lag model than by the commonly used simple models such as Voigt, Ruess and Hill averages, Hashin-Shtrikman bounds, Ravichandran bounds, Halpin-Tsai equations, and Paul’s calculations. In rice, the characterization of OsEBP-89 is inducible by various stress- or hormone-stimuli, including ethylene, abscisic acid (ABA), jasmonate acid (JA), drought and cold. Here, we report the investigation of essential DNA region within OsEBP-89 promoter for methyl jasmonic acid (MeJA) induction. PLACE analysis indicates that this promoter sequence contains multiple potential elements in response to various stimuli. First, we fused this promoter with GUS gene and analyzed its expression under MeJA treatment through Agrobacterium infiltration mediating transient expression in tobacco leaves. Our results revealed that this chimeric gene could be inducible by MeJA in tobacco leaves. To further de- termine the crucial sequences responsible for MeJA induction, we generated a series of deletion pro- moters which were fused with GUS reporter gene respectively. The results of transient expression of GUS gene driven by these mutant promoters show that the essential region for MeJA induction is po- sitioned in the region between -1200 and -800 in OsEBP-89 promoter containing a G-box (?1127), which is distinct from the essential region containing ERE (?562) for ACC induction. In all, our finding is helpful in understanding the molecular mechanism of OsEBP-89 expression under different stimuli.

High volume fraction (63vol.%) SiCp/Al composite for electronic packaging fabricated by pressureless infiltration was characterized by microscopy, physical and mechanical tests. Microscopy observations and XRD analysis indicated that the composite appeared to be free of porosity and macroscopically homogeneous, SiC-Al interface was atomic bonding interface with low thermal resistivity and electrical resistivity, no interfacial reaction products was detected. Examination of the fracture surfaces of the composites revealed that the cracks passed through the SiC particles and Al matrix, no debonding of SiC-AI interface was observed. The fracture mode indicated that the bonding between SiC-Al was sufficient strong. The properties of the composite were noted for its ultrahigh thermal conductivity of 235W/m·K and specific modulus (79.9×105m), low coefficient of thermal expansion (7.2×10-6/K) and density of 2.99g/cm3. The advantages of the composite over traditional materials used as the electronic packages for aerospace applications were analyzed.

Seven residual heterozygous lines （RHLs） displaying different genotypic compositions in the genomic region covering probable locations of C （Chromogen for anthocyanin） gene on the short arm of rice chromosome 6 were selected from the progenies of the indica cross Zhenshan 97B/Milyang 46. Seeds were harvested from each of the seven plants, and the resultant F2：3 populations were used for fine mapping of C gene. It was shown in the populations that the apiculus coloration matched to basal leaf sheath coloration in each plant. By relating the coloration performances of the populations with the genotypic compositions of the RHLs, the C locus was located between rice SSR markers RM314 and RM253. By using a total of 1279 F2：3 individuals from two populations showing coloration segregation, the C locus was then located between RM111 and RM253, with genetic distances of 0.7 cM to RM111 and 0.4 cM to RM253. Twenty-two recombinants found in the two populations were assayed with seven more markers located between RM111 and RM253, including six SSR markers and one marker for the C gene candidate, OsCl. The C locus was delimited to a 59.3-kb region in which OsC1 was located.

Isozyme are important biochemical markers for studying population genetic structure in expediting the sampling, evaluation, and use of crop genetic resource. This paper discusses the change of the size distribution of suspended sediment, both in the region and over the tidal cycle, by means of statistics and calculations of different size fractions and median diameters. It also indicates that the size distribution is mainly influenced by three factors, i.e. sediment sources, re-suspensions of the bottom sediment and flocculated settlings. Of which, the action of the resuspension is more remarkable during the spring tide than during the neap tide, while the action of the flocculation is more pronounced during the neap tide than during the spring tide.

The completely dominant earliness was identified in a genie male-sterile and early maturing indica line 6442S-7. F1 progenies from 6442S-7 crossed with thirteen various types of medium- or late-maturing varieties, shared the same heading date as 6442S-7. The segregation of heading date in the F2 and B1F1 populations showed that the earliness of 6442S-7 is mainly controlled by two dominant major genes. The local linkage map of one dominant earliness gene harbored in 6442S-7 was constructed with F2 population and four kinds of molecular marker techniques. The results showed that the gene was located between a RFLP marker C515 and a RAPD marker OPI 11.557 on the terminal region of short arm of rice chromosome 3, 10.9cM and 1.5cM from C515 and OPI11.557, respectively. The genetic distances from the target gene to two SSR markers, RM22 and RM231, and one AFLP marker, PT671, were 3.0, 6.7 and 12.4 cM, respectively. This gene, being identified and mapped first, is designated tentatively as Ef-cd(t). As a new genetic resource of completely dominant earliness, 6442S-7 has splendid future in rice improvement.

The concept of hydrocarbon accumulation in network was presented on basis of the overall analysis of the formation and evolution characteristics of the continental faulted basin and of the systemic re-search on the major controlling factors on the hydrocarbon accumulation. The hydrocarbon accumu-lation in network can be defined as hydrocarbon accumulation in a three-dimensional network system which is constituted by the hydrocarbon migration passages under multiple dynamics,following the hydrocarbon generation from source rocks. The research shows that the hydrocarbon accumulation in network is composed of four elements,i.e.,hydrocarbon source (source rock kitchen),hydrocarbon accumulation terminal (trap),network pathway connecting source and terminal (transporting system),and network potential driving hydrocarbon migration in the network pathway (migration dynamics). Compared with other networks,hydrocarbon accumulation in network has three basic characteristics: the irreversible geological process of material and information flow in the network; the loss of material and information in the flow process in the network; the multiple dynamics in the flow process. Interac-tion of all the elements in the geological process can be called hydrocarbon accumulation in network. There are three basic models for hydrocarbon accumulation in network,that is,hydrocarbon accumu-lation in the network source area,hydrocarbon accumulation in the network pathway,and hydrocarbon accumulation in the network terminal. The key in the application of the hydrocarbon accumulation models in network in practice is to confirm the major accumulation stage and the function range of the four elements controlling the hydrocarbon firstly,to predict the profitable accumulation region by su-perposition of the favorable areas confirmed by four elements consequently,and to evaluate the oil-bearing property of the trap as well as confirm drilling targets.
