The beijing Genomics institute (BGI) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) wasofficially founded in December 2003. Its predecessor, beijing Huada Genomics Research Center, haspresented significant contributions to the development of life sciences in china by its excellentscientific innovations and achievements in the last five years. From the participation ofInternational Human Genome Project (HGP) to the independent completion of the whole-genome draft andfine maps of Chinese super hybrid rice genome, from the porcine genome research cooperated withDenmark to the international chicken genome research, and from the silkworm genome projectaccomplished together with The Southwest Agriculture University of china to the great contributionsto the national campaign against SARS, all these facts illustrate that BGI not only has afirst-class scientific research power in the world but also is full of devotion to the flourish ofscience and nation. During these years, we have upheld the strategy of ''Advance through projects,strive for innovation, grow through cooperation'', in the aim of making BGI as one of the pioneers ofCAS climbing the peak of life sciences in the world.

This paper presents a global stereo sparse matching technique based on graph cut theory to obtain accurate correspondence of stereo point pair in vision measurement ***, in order to obtain accurate location of feature points, a new multi-scale corner detection algorithm is proposed where wavelet coefficients are used to determine feature points by calculating an auto-correlation matrix.A sparse graph is constructed based on the feature points according to the graph cut ***, the feature point correspondence problem is transformed into a labeling problem in the sparse graph which can be solved by energy ***-scale analysis is utilized to improve the precision of matching *** was found that the use of sparse feature points in the construction of the graph can lead to both a simple graph structure and a reduced computational *** was also found that node labeling in the graph can be performed using fewer disparity values instead of all disparity *** experimental results show that the new global stereo sparse matching technique can obtain more accurate results than the existing techniques.

A systematic elaboration is given on atomic and molecular theory problems encountered in dealing with space science and engineering. Three sections are presented in the paper on calculations for gas thermodynamic and transfer properties, characteristics of the optical radiation from the reentry' bodies, and the interaction between surfaces of man-made satellites and incident particles. Researches on them are much related to the fundamental problems regarding the atomic and molecular theory.

This paper established an on-line monitoring model for fouling resistance of cooling water based on heat transfer theory,which was mainly applied to the fouling resistance test for condenser of chiller in operation,and the test requirements were *** proves that the load ratio of chiller has big influence on the test result,and the best load ratio for test is the range of 80%～100%.A case has been executed to validate the model's feasibility.

A set of integrated end-column amperometric detection system has been developed,onto which an electrophoresis microchip can be conveniently *** machined by a piece of transparent organic glass,the system consists of an electrophoresis microchip platform and an amperometric detection reservoir,in which the microchip can be fixed onto the platform by microchip grooves and with stainless steel *** detection electrode can be directly fixed in the amperometric detection reservoir by screws and *** dopamine as the model analyte,we take platinum disc electrodes with different diameters of 100 μm,300 μm and 500 μm and a carbon fiber electrode with the diameter of 240 μm as the working electrode,all of which accomplish sensitive *** detection parameters of the system are optimized with the carbon fiber *** detection results show that in the electrochemical cleaning procedure,the relative deviations of 3.2% and 0.5% for the peak current and retention time,respectively,can be obtained for the successive detections of 100 μM dopamine,and the limit of detection for dopamine can reach 0.4 μM(S/N = 3).This system is small,but its performance of detection is stable and sensitive,and the replacement of its working electrodes is convenient,so it is very suitable as a universal platform of end-column amperometric detection for electrophoresis microchips.

This paper presents a simple method of forming sum and difference patterns with adaptivenulls. The effects on the sidelobe level and the pointing null of difference pattern by adaptive null areanalyzed. The result that the increment value of the envelope of the sidelobe level under the effect ofa null is less than l.6dB is proved. The formula about shift value of the pointing null which is thefunction of the jammer direction and array parameters is given in the paper.

In this paper, the drawbacks of conventional target fluctuation models used in radar target modeling are set out. It is usually difficult to statistically model a real target because there are very few parameters which can be used to approximate the probability density function (PDF) of a real target's radar cross section (RCS) in conventional target models. A new method of statistical modeling is suggested, according to which the first nth central moment of real target's RCS, combined with the Legendre orthogonal polynomials, is used to reconstruct the PDF of the target's RCS. The relationship between the coefficients of the Legendre polynomials and the central moments of RCS are deduced mathematically. Through a practical computing example, the error-of-fit is shown as a function of the orders of Legendre coefficients. By comparing the errors-of-fit caused by both the new model and the conventional models, it is concluded that the new nonparametric method for statistical modeling of radar targets is superior.
