Background:Information on the association between physical activity(PA)and the risk of chronic kidney disease(CKD)is *** aimed to explore the associations of total,domain-specific,and intensity-specific PA with CKD and its subtypes in ***:The study included 475,376 adults from the china Kadoorie Biobank aged 30-79 years during 2004-2008 at *** interviewer-administered questionnaire was used to collect the information about PA,which was quantified as metabolic equivalent of task hours per day(MET-h/day)and categorized into 4 groups based on *** regression was used to analyze the association between PA and CKD ***:During a median follow-up of 12.1 years,5415 incident CKD cases were documented,including 1159 incident diabetic kidney disease(DKD)cases and 362 incident hypertensive nephropathy(HTN)*** PA was inversely associated with CKD risk,with an adjusted hazard ratio(HR,95%confidence interval(95%CI))of 0.83(0.75-0.92)for incident CKD in the highest quartile of total PA as compared with participants in the lowest *** results were observed for risk of DKD and HTN,and the corresponding HRs(95%CIs)were 0.75(0.58-0.97)for DKD risk and 0.56(0.37-0.85)for HTN *** nonoccupational PA,low-intensity PA,and moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA were significantly associated with a decreased risk of CKD,with HRs(95%CIs)of 0.80(0.73-0.88),0.85(0.77-0.94),and 0.85(0.76-0.95)in the highest quartile,***:PA,including nonoccupational PA,low-intensity PA,and moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA,was inversely associated with the risk of CKD,including DKD,HTN,and other CKD,and such associations were dose dependent.

In the four decades from 1951 to 1990, the six provinces or autonomous regions (Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xizang and Nei Monggol) reported a total of 26 065surgical cases of hydatid disease, most of which were reported in the recent decade. About one third of the patients was children and adolescents under 15 years old. So far, cystic hydatid infections of local origin have been confirmed in 22 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in the whole nation. Findings of X-ray examination and real-time B-mode ultrasonography in agricultural and pastoral areas of Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai,Ningxia and Xizang showed that the morbidity rate of hydatidosis in human population varied between 0.5% and 4.5%. The main animal intermediate host in all these regions is sheep, the morbidity of which varied between 3.3% and 90%. The infection rate of adult Echinococcus granulosus in dogs varied between 7% and 71%. The high-risk period for humans contracting hydatid disease is the pre-school age. Direct contact of children with dogs and ingestion of water, vegetables and foods contaminated by worm eggs are the chief mode of transmission for human hydatidosis. The genome oiganization and expression strategy of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) have been described extensively. As a structural glycoprotein on the virion surface, the spike protein is responsible for binding to host cellular receptors and for the fusion between the viral envelope and the cellular membrane. It also induces neutralizing antibodies in the host and mediates cellular immunity. Previous studies suggested that amino acid replacements in the spike protein coulddramatically alter the pathogenesis and virulence of some coronaviruses. It is therefore reasonable to test the hypothesis that radical amino acid replacements in the spike protein, favored by environmental selective pressure during the process of SARS-CoV interspecific transmission, might make this pathogen adapt to a new host, In this study, we investigated a total of 108 complete sequences of the SARS-CoV S gene from Gen-Bank (until March 23, 2004). After omission of those records containing frame-shift mutations or low quality sequences, e.g. ZJ01, and selection of one sequence for identical records, an alignment of 42 sequences was obtained using the program Clustal-X. Then, we reconstructed the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) sequences of theSARS-CoV S gene and detected the adaptive evolution in the spike protein.

AIM: To investigate the expression features of PDCD5 (programmed cell death 5 protein) in osteoarthritic andnormal human cartilage, and speculate on its potential functions in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA).METHODS: Articular cartilage specimens were obtained from 30 patients with OA and 16 healthy patients at thetime of arthroplasty. Expression of PDCD5 was detected by flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, RT-PCR andimmunohistochemical analysis. RESULTS: Enhanced expression and nuclear accumulation of PDCD5 in OAchondrocytes were found. PDCD5-positive chondrocytes were mainly distributed in the superficial and deep zonesof OA tissue sections, as opposed to, in the superficial and middle regions of normal healthy tissue ***: Since apoptotic chondrocyte death occurs more frequently in OA cartilage than in normal healthycartilage and PDCD5 is an apoptosis-related protein, the different expression patterns of PDCD5 in OA cartilagefrom that in normal healthy cartilage indicate that PDCD5 is involved in the pathogenesis of OA.

Avian influenza virus（AIV） nonstructural 1（NS1） gene was amplified by real-time polymerse chain reac tion（RT-PCR） and inserted into pET28a, then transformed into E. coli BL21（DE3） competent cell. With the induction of isopropyl-β-D-thiogalactoside（IPTG） and the purification of Ni-NTA column, we finally obtained purified NS1 protein. T7-phage display system was used to screen the proteins that interacted with NS1 from lung cell cDNA li brary. The selected positive clones were identified by DNA sequencing and analyzed by BLAST program in Gene Bank. Two proteins were obtained as NS1 binding proteins, Homo sapiens nucleolar and coiled-body phosphoprotein 1（NOLC1） and Homo sapiens similar to colon cancer-associated antigen. By co-immunoprecipitation and other me thods, Homo sapiens NOLC1 was found to interact with the NS1 protein, the results would provide the basis for fur ther studying biological function of NS1 protein.

BACKGROUND: Patients with decompensated hepatitis B vires (HBV)-related cirrhosis tend to have low or undetectable HBV replication. However, some patients continue to have high levels of HBV replication and effective suppression of HBV replication with antiviral agents may potentially decrease hepatic necroinflammation and improve or stabilize liver function. This review was to under stand the efficacy and safety of lamivudine in the treatment of decompensated HBV cirrhosis. DATA SOURCES: An English-language literature search (MEDLINE January 1988-July 2005) was performed, and a total of 52 articles/abstracts relevant to the issue were selected. After review of the selected papers, the meaningful results and conclusions were extracted using scientific crite ria. The papers reviewed pertained mainly to the efficacy and safety profiles of lamivudine treatment for decompensated HBV cirrhosis. RESULTS: The ultimate treatment of decompensated HBV cirrhosis is liver transplantation, but lamivudine treatment may lead to rapid suppression of viral replication and improvement of biochemical and clinical parameters, reduced morbidity and hospitalization for complications of liver disease, increased pre-transplant survival as well as reduced need for transplantation. However, viral resistance can develop after prolonged treatment with lamivudine, and breakthrough hepatitis may be fatal in few patients. Adefovir is effective for lamivudine-resistant HBV mutants. CONCLUSIONS: Antiviral therapy with lamivudine for decompensated HBV cirrhosis can be effective. However, some patients may experience a hepatitis flare with the emergence of YMDD mutants resulting in progressive worsening of liver disease, and should be referred for 'rescue' therapy with other nucleoside/nucleotide analogues such as adefovir dipivoxil.

Due to severe water scarcity, water resources used in agricultural sector have been reduced markedly in Hetao irrigation district. Application of water-saving practices (WSPs) is required for the sustainable agricultural development. The human activities including WSPs and increase of groundwater abstraction can lower down the groundwater table, which is helpful to the salinity control. Meanwhile, an excessively large groundwater table depth may result in negative impact on crop growth and fragile ecological environment. In this paper, the Jiefangzha irrigation system in Hetao irrigation district was selected as a typical area, a groundwater flow model based on ArcInfo Geographic Information System (GIS) was developed and implemented to quantify the effect of human activities on the groundwater system in this area. The preand post-processing of model data was performed efficiently by using the available GIS tools. The time-variant data in boundary conditions was further edited in Microsoft Excel with programs of Visual Basic for Application (VBA). The model was calibrated and validated with independent data sets. Application of the model indicated that it can well describe the effect of human activities on groundwater dynamics in Jiefangzha irrigation system.
