Based on living ***,we have established that such epidermal cell properties as epidermal cell circumference(Circum.) ,undulation index(uI) ,epidermal cell area(EA) on both upper and lower epidermis and the corresponding epidermal cell density(ED) ,are suitable to differentiate between sun and shade ***,stomatal properties on the lower epidermis,including stomatal length(sL) ,stomatal pore length(PL) and the corresponding stomatal density(sD) ,are reliable parameters to identify sun/shade *** this anatomical approach was applied to 18 leaf remains of *** from the Miocene Xiannanshan Formation,Zhejiang Province(eastern China) ,and the fossil leaves were sorted into two groups,namely,sun and shade *** indicates that anatomical differences between sun and shade leaves found in living species could be used for fossil ***,the variation of uI between sun and shade morphotypes is larger on the upper epidermis as compared with the lower epidermis,showing that the uI on the upper epidermis is more sensitive to environmental *** addition,anatomical features are more variable in sun leaves than in shade leaves for both modern and fossil Liquidambar,suggesting sun leaves may be more sensitive to environmental *** leaves can then be a better indicator of paleoenvironmental ***,stomatal parameters of sun morphotype should be adopted on reconstructing paleoenvironments using Liquidambar leaf *** the other hand,the three-lobed fossil *** leaf assemblage in the Xiananshan Formation is represented by an almost similar percentage of sun and shade morphotypes(56%and 44%,respectively) ,which is attributed to the short transport before *** a result,identifying sun/shade morphotypes are very useful in reconstructing paleoenvironments based on fossil leaves of Liquidambar.

Molecular hydrogen isotope analysis preformed on modern and fossil plants has made a significant impact on diverse research fields in biology and geology. using living and fossil Metasequoia as an example, we review the technology of online GC-IRMs that made the molecular analysis of hydrogen isotope possible and discuss critical issues concerning with the studies of molecular dD and its applications. The apparent hydrogen fractionation factors between lipid molecules and source water (ewater–lipid) vary across plant taxonomy and differ among biomolecules and are affected by multiple environmental factors in which precipitation dD values exercise the first order of control. Eco-physiological factors and environmental parameters are also known to influence dD in plants. Molecular hydrogen isotope analysis of chemically stable lipid molecules, such as n-alkanes, finds a wide range of applications in detecting source sediments, reconstruction of paleoclimatic parameters, inference of air-mass trajectory, as well as in petroleum industry and environmental studies.

Death from Fat Embolism after Lipectomy in a Patient with Madelung’s Disease

A 56-year-old man with a long history of alcoholism and a palpable raised mass about 23 cm×12 cm in size on his neck was diagnosed with Madelung’s disease(MD);the patient also had *** day 1,he underwent neck lipoma tissue resection and suddenly had dyspnea 9 h after the operation,which was followed by cardiac *** heart rate resuscitation,he developed a heartbeat,but he remained in a coma and died 9 days after the *** obvious pathological tracheal compression from a hematoma was observed while evaluating the patient’s neck on *** microscopy,the patient had an extensive pulmonary fat embolism,partial alveolar septal rupture and hemorrhage,and fat particles,and there was extensive infiltration of macrophages,which had phagocytosed fat particles,in the alveolar *** was also evidence of pulmonary infection and hypoxic-ischemic *** cause of death was postoperative pulmonary fat embolism resulting in pneumonia and central nervous system *** is the first report of a patient with MD who died of a fatal pulmonary fat embolism after neck lipoma tissue *** experts and clinicians should pay sufficient attention to this case.

Current status of nerve infiltration by skip metastases in colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer(CRC)is a prevalent malignant tumor,with the global new cases reaching 1.9316 million and deaths reaching 935,200 in *** China,therewere 555,500 new cases of CRC,with an age-standardized incidence rate of 24.07 per 10million,and 286,200 *** accounts for approximately 30%of new cases and deaths from CRC worldwide,with East Asia accounting for over 75%.Initially,CRC presents as local tumor growth,but it has the potential to spread to other body parts over *** infiltration(PNI)is a relatively less discussed route of diffusion,yet it plays a crucial role in the progression and prognosis of *** often occu.s.a.ongside local lymph nodes and distant metastases,posing challenges for treatment and *** symptoms,radiographic findings,and histopathological examination can be used to diagnose PNI with *** commonly include local pain,paresthesia,andmotor *** helps identify the mass’s location and relationship to nerves,whereas histopathological examination confirms the *** of PNI skipmetastases is similar to other CRC metastases,including surgical resection,chemotherapy,radiotherapy,and targeted *** resection is the primary therapeutic approach,but the wider range of metastasis in PNI skip transfer may limit its *** cases where surgical resection is not possible,chemotherapy,radiotherapy,and targeted therapy are used to control tumor *** conclusion,PNI skip metastases increase the risk of poor prognosis for CRC,requiring a comprehensive approach with multiple treatments to prevent disease *** detection and treatment are vital to improving prognosis.
